    Hey @MexicanCow123

I know you probably have a few potential favorites in the VHLM, but I'd love to see you in Mexico City.

We have an elite goalie and a solid forward group already that would only benefit from having you.  I can offer top line minutes with PP/PK and maybe some extra stuff on the side.

    #MEXICANKINGS if interested.

v.2 reacted to Da_Berr in Looking back at Su in VAN
It's been a hell of an offseason for Andrew Su. After being knocked out of the wildcard round by LA in 4 games, Su has had a turbulent offseason.

The biggest change is that Su is no longer a Vancouver Wolf and is now an official member of the Calgary Wranglers. This trade was a blockbuster move for VAN as Su was their star player for the last few seasons. It also marks an end of an era in VAN. With Su being traded and Greg Stallion signing with the Warsaw Predators this free agency, VAN has officially gotten rid of every S72 draft pick they had. To recap VAN's S72 draft, they picked Gino DiGiannantonio 4th OA, Jungkok at 7th OA, Andrew Su at 13th OA, and Greg Stallion at 15th OA. Gino was traded to MOS in S74, Jungkok was traded to MAL in S73, and we have already covered Su and Stallion leaving this offseason. Despite Su being a VHL star, due to the cap situation of most teams, not many teams wanted to take on the ageing forward. [NOTE this was before the change in VHL CAP which happened literally 3 days after the trade :(]. As a result, CGY was able to get a solid deal for Su. They only had to swap 1st rounders with VAN, give up a 3rd round pick and Sheldon Juniper. Also huge shoutout to Fonzi for making the trade happen and getting my input every step along the way.

Durning Su's career with the Wolves he played 6 full seasons, totalling 432 games. Durning an atrocious rookie season where scoring was down, and Su should've most likely stayed in the minors, he only totalled a measly 19 points with 10 assists and 9 goals. Su was also only playing 3rd line minutes behind both HHH and Louth during his rookie campaign. It was looking like Su was going on the pathway of being a bust. In his sophomore season, Su was finally getting some more minutes and was able to massively improve his on-ice contributions with 77 points from 43 assists and 34 goals. Su was even nominated for the Dustin-Funk trophy (most improved) that season but was beat out by an impressive campaign by Ray Shields. In S74, Su just kept on improving. With both Louth and HHH gone from VAN, Su found himself as the #1 center of the team. With that, Su had an explosive season where he finally got to 100 points with 56 assists and 44 goals. VAN even won the cup that year, and Su had 22 points in 19 games, good enough to get nominated for the Daisuke Kanou Trophy (playoff MVP). The following 3 seasons are when Su was at his peak. 106, 121, and 120 points. 63, 74, 73 assists and 43, 47, 47 goals. In this timeframe, Su won 2 Mike Szatkowski's (S76, S77), 2 Scotty Campbell's (S76, S77), and 1 Alexander Beketov Trophy (S77). He was also only 1 point away in S75 from claiming a 3rd Szatkowski in a row.

At the end of the day, Su is the points and goals leader of VAN and is second-most in assists as well. Only time will tell if he will be as good in CGY.

Miklavz Signs Entry-Level / Expected to Play in VHLM

Anze Miklavz with Riga management after being selected 15th overall in the S78 Entry Draft.

The Riga Reign have inked their top forward prospect Anze Miklavz to a 3-year entry level contract starting in S78. The Slovenian winger is expected to make $5.5 million over the next three seasons, with over half the contract ($3 million) coming in the first year. The structure of this contract means that Miklavz will be spending one more year in the VHLM due to limited available cap space on Riga’s roster.

“Yea, after some discussions with @hedgehog337 about my future with Riga, it made sense on both sides for me to spend another year in the minors”, Miklavz confirmed in yesterday’s media availability to announce the signing. “I still have some other parts of my game to work on, and I think that needs to be addressed for a smooth transition to the VHL style of play”.

Miklavz, the leading goal scorer in his draft class, notched 42 goals and 45 assists with the Mexico City Kings last season. With his commitment to the VHLM this season and former teammate Tui Sova @v.2 expected to play in Malmo, he’s now arguably the top ranked prospect in Sunday’s dispersal draft. The high ranking may not lead to a high draft choice though, and Miklavz knows that first hand. In Thursday’s entry draft, Miklavz fell to 15th overall after being ranked the 8th best prospect, leaving most scouts puzzled at the drop. When asked about the situation in yesterday’s availability, Miklavz had this to say:

“I was pretty disappointed, and I think what happened was a curveball in the top 5 which trickled down through the first round and majorly affected me. I didn’t really talk to many teams and that was probably the biggest factor. I also understand team need is the priority in a VHL draft, but at some point, I feel like you need to consider player value. I know I’m going to be a lot better than some of the guys that got picked ahead of me and I’m really looking forward to proving that. With that being said, I’m extremely happy that I ended up in Riga. The locker room is great, and I think their management knows exactly what their doing, and I’m really looking forward to contributing to this storied franchise”

VHL Insiders recently caught up with the Malmo Nighthawk's top pick in the S78 VHL draft, Tui Sova, to discuss his thoughts on the big day.

VI: Malmo decided to take you with the 7th overall pick in this years draft, how did you feel when you heard your name called at this spot and you realized you were heading to Malmo?
TS: It felt great honestly, management reached out to me fairly early on while I was still playing in Mexico and showed interest in me before other teams.  My expectations weren't high going into the draft as I felt like anything could have happened, and after seeing a few mock drafts floating around I didn't have my hopes up to be chosen by Malmo.  It was a nice surprise though when I heard my name called at the 7 spot.

VI: What excites you about playing for Malmo?
TS:  Well after speaking with both @STZand @hylands it was determined that the best thing for my career would be to skip another year in the VHLM and start developing early on the Nighthawks.  This is exciting for me as I feel my time in Mexico has helped me mature to a point where I feel comfortable making the jump a little earlier than some may have thought.  I gotta give my former GM @Advantagesome props for allowing me to excel in the M and reaching this level.

VI: The Nighthawks acquired Muffbeav @.sniffuMbefore the draft, do you think this makes the team a playoff contender heading into S79?
TS: Hopefully, I think right now our trajectory is to be a bubble team.  It would be awesome to overachieve though and prove the doubters wrong.  I think once we get some chemistry going throughout the season we can end up as a bit of a dark horse.

VI: What surprised you the most about the S78 VHL Draft?
TS: Honestly it had to be my former teammate in Mexico City's free-fall in the first round.  Anze Miklavz@McKelviewill undoubtably prove many GM's wrong, and make them regret not selecting him sooner.  I can't fathom what the thought process was for teams like Davos, Warsaw, LA and Prague to have passed on him with the picks they had.

VI: Our final question today; What are your personal goals heading into S79?
I just want win some games and help the team.  I have something to prove playing for the big club right away, and I'm determined to train hard to reinforce my spot on the blue line.

v.2 reacted to Telkster in Malmo’s new S78 players!
With the draft over, I figured I would take a little time to look at some of the new faces Malmo picked up in the S78 draft. Tui Sova @v.2 was drafted 7oa, and has taken a step up early onto the Malmo roster. This guy will max out pretty much every week, and could easily be a #1 d man in the future for Malmo. Next is another D man in Masami Iwasawa @CrazyCaityCat, who was picked up at 19oa. Iwasawa picks up lots of tpe, maxing out pretty well every week. He is not far off Sova in terms of potential, and could peak at a top pairing d man if all goes right. Our next pick was center Nathaniel Minion @Minionright after at 20oa. I think he was very unlucky to not get a point at all this year in the M, and with consistent tpe in welfare plus other goodies, could turn to a great 2nd line center in the league. Caleb Gaudette @Gaudetteis a LW who Malmo picked up at 33oa. Gaudette seems like a solid tpe earner, who could work his way into the lineup in the next season or two.

    The Trade
    To Malmo- Muffbeav
To Warsaw- 1st round pick (Tynan Sylvester), 2nd round pick (Bogdan Trunov)

I was somewhat shocked at this trade at first glance, and who wouldn't be. A rebuilding team moving picks to a cup contender for a player more in the now? How on earth did both teams say yes? Well, I'm going to break down the trade to the best of my ability, and tell you why both teams win this deal in the end. On Warsaw's side, you can clearly see they have everyone signed for S78 with nothing more then just a quarter of a million dollars left to spend, meaning that someone had to go, and that someone ended up being Muffbeav.

Warsaw didn't really have any other option in terms of a quick and easy switch up while staying contenders. Another roster player back just wasn't an option no matter what his salary would've been. Getting back some quality prospects for a quality player really was the best choice, rather then losing Muff for nothing back. Sylvester is a solid young D man who comes close to maxing tpe out nearly every week. Sylvester picked up 13 points in his rookie season on the blue line in the VHLM. If he plays the right way this year, he could break open a spot on the roster for Warsaw as early as next offseason. Bogdan Trunov has been picking up his TPE game a lot as of late. He had 20 points last year, and is in the same boat as Sylvester as to when he could make his first VHL appearance.

Now onto the Malmo side of things. your probably thinking, okay, Warsaw has themselves set now, how does this make sense for Malmo? Let me tell you. Malmo's rebuild didn't really get to "full on rebuild mode" until the S77 draft when they picked up Deathwalker and Telker. If Malmo they were to stay the course, not go for big players, and essentially draft with all of their draft picks plus some others, Telker and Deathwalker might not see a winning team until maybe over halfway through their careers. I see this as a right time to decide to speed up the rebuild.  Muffbeav is still a younger roster player with plenty of life left to grow with the team. This should also take a lot of the pressure off Deathwalker and Telker.

In terms of shear value on both sides, I think its a pretty even trade as well. So what is the next step for Malmo to getting back to winning ways? The first thing is time. This season needs to be played before Malmo reassess their playing cards come the TDL and next offseason. I think it's safe to say the vast majority of the selling in Malmo is over now. Eyes will be on them come next years draft with only 5 picks right now, but 3 of those are 1st's. I wouldn't be shocked at all if they moved a pick or prospect or two to make the same type of deal next year as the one I just talked about above.
