Alex 3,211
I have decided to take a swing at a new segment where I’ll be asking VHL GMs to pick a trade that they have made that they believe led to their current success, to start things off with last season’s champion the Calgary Wranglers. GM @Ricer13 selected this trade: Which to date, has developed into this: Just to provide some context on the above trade tree, here is what each colour means; Green = Still on team and playing; Light Blue = Prospect for team; Orange = Played and retired with team; Yellow = Played and was traded; Blue = Team has pick and not used yet; Red = Never played for team and is current FA. Also in this case to keep things a bit more organized, boxes are around Helsinki’s return for several of the trades. Will start things off with Calgary, and the S84 HSK 3rd and Lenny Sanderson @Gally. Calgary used the 3rd to draft Lorenzo Cobberson @Hendrix Cobberson, who never played for Calgary and is currently playing for Cologne in the VHLE. Lenny Sanderson never played for Calgary and is currently a IA free agent. Neither player was traded. The only other piece Calgary acquired and did not trade was the S83 SEA 1st. With that pick Calgary selected Leandro Goncalves @leandrofg. To date Goncalves has played in 308 games with Calgary and has 145 goals and 156 assists for a total of 301 points, Goncalves is still on Calgary. Bob Chicoine @PoignardLeclerc11 would go onto play in 28 games with Calgary before being traded, in those 28 games Chicoine would produce only 6 points. In exchange for Chicoine Calgary would receive Brendan Telker @Telkster who would record 29 points in the final 44 games of his career, he would also produce 8 points in 7 playoff games with Calgary. Telker was not traded prior to his retirement. The final piece Calgary received in the initial trade would be moved only a few days later to New York as they would trade the S84 HSK 2nd with their own S83 1st to move up to the 5th overall pick, where they would select AirRig GoodBrandSun @Rhynex Entertainment. To date GoodBrandSun has been a staple on Calgary’s blueline, with 361 points in 380 career games. GoodBrandSun would also win the S83 Jake Wylde Trophy as the league’s top defensive defensemen. Now moving onto the Helsinki side of things where GM @Rayzor_7 went to work, we’ll get Nasherov @Vat out of the way quickly as he would play in 144 games with Helsinki prior to retiring. In those games Nasherov produced 152 points, 67 of which were goals. Now onto the big part, as Erlantz Jokinen @jRuutu would be traded back to Calgary after 1 season in Helsinki where he produced 58 points. In exchange for Jokinen, a S84 1st (RIG), and S84 4th (HSK) the Titans received two S85 2nds (LDN, and CGY), and Calgary’s S86 1st. Of those picks the only one that Helisinki used was the S85 CGY 2nd, where they selected Vinny Lecavlier @Spartakiller2, who is still a prospect in the Helsinki system. The S85 LDN 2nd would be traded with a S84 3rd (RIG) in exchange for Reylynn Reinhart @Ricer13 who would play the final season of their career with Helsinki and would produce 46 goals and 41 assists for 87 points in 72 games. They would also have 10 points in 7 playoff games prior to retirement. This is where things get interesting and complicated as Helsinki would trade the S86 CGY 1st, Deron Nesbitt @AW13, and their own S86 2nd to Davos in a massive 3-way trade where the Titans received 6 pieces; the S86 DAV 1st, S86 LDN 3rd, S86 NYA 4th, S87 CGY 3rd, S88 DAV 3rd, and S88 CGY 3rd. The S86 LDN 3rd, S86 NYA 4th, and S87 CGY 3rd were used to select Antonio Marchand @Tapirman, Suhayb Hussein @chief, and Niall Mahoney @LiamFlannigan respectively, all of which are still prospects in the Helsinki system. The S88 CGY 3rd would be traded back to Calgary in exchange for Marcel Janser @Morcar80, who would appear in 22 games for Helsinki, producing 10 points. Janser would then be traded along with the S89 RIG 2nd to Vancouver for Ryuji Sakamoto @der meister who will make his Helsinki debut later today. I’m going to put a bit of an asterisk next to this trade as the S88 DAV 3rd was not the main piece in it, as Helsinki would trade the 3rd, Tim Stuzle @NineIQ v2, S89 VAN 2nd, and S89 SEA 3rd to Malmo for Bob Vladivechsenkchushkin @Grape, Mo Probert @Yahtzee, and Matty Fire @MattyFired. Before playing in a single game for Helsinki Bob would be traded to Vancouver for a S90 VAN 2nd. Both Fire and Probert would play for Helsinki and record a combined 51 points in 44 games played so far this season. Helsinki would also go onto trade the S86 DAV 1st they acquired in the Deron Nesbitt trade as it would be moved to Vancouver for Vancouver’s S86 1st and Toronto’s S86 2nd, both of which would be traded; The S86 VAN 1st would be traded to London along with 2 other draft picks for Rick Grimes @tinafrombobsburgers who has 49 points in 94 career games with Helsinki to date. The S86 TOR 2nd would be bundled with another 2nd to move up in the S86 draft in a trade with Calgary as they would acquire the S86 WAR 1st, with this pick Helsinki would select Fuukka Rask @Jubis who has a 21-39-7 record and 0.912 SV% in 72 career games. With most trades it’s very hard to declare a winner, but at the end of the day, Calgary acquired pieces that were integral to their S87 Continental Cup victory and has gotten a lot of games and production out of both Leandro Goncalves and AirRig GoodBrandSun. While this trade doesn’t initially show much of a return for Helsinki, eventually they did receive 5 players who are currently on their roster all of which have a very bright future. Players who were later drafted with traded picks and other GMs involved in the trades: Spoiler Calgary traded: S84 HSK 2nd - Jimmy MacElroy @Xflexz S83 CGY 1st - Augustus Kennedy @InstantRockstar Helsinki traded: S85 LDN 2nd - Jani Karppinen @ShawnGlade S86 CGY 1st - Lachlan Summers @kirbithan S84 RIG 3rd - Taylor Crabbe @Taylor Crabbe S86 DAV 1st - Wann Kerr @VattghernCZ S88 DAV 3rd - Perry Winkle @PerryPHX S88 CGY 3rd - Robert Boldy @The Goblin S86 VAN 1st - Leonard Triller @Triller S86 TOR 2nd - Darius Marimoto II @Bobo S87 CGY 2nd - Grunkle Stan-dingyouup @Big Newff S88 HSK 3rd - Anthony Simmons @Starchychaff S88 HSK 2nd - McDonalds BigMac @ryf87 GMs: VAN: @Frank DAV: @Alex PRG: @Acydburn NYA: @MexicanCow123 LDN: @Dil MAL: @KaleebtheMighty Edited April 16, 2023 by Alex VattghernCZ, jacobcarson877, kirbithan and 5 others 4 4 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/135238-vsn-presents-building-a-contender-calgary/ Share on other sites
