Senior Admin Will 4,604 Posted January 30, 2016 Senior Admin Share Posted January 30, 2016 Hello all, As you all know, the VHL All-Star game has always been sort of thrown together during off-season. We recently decided to give the All-Star game a revamp to make it more exciting for the league. Instead of being in the off-season, we're going to be holding the All-Star game around the trade deadline from now on. Here is a quick run-down of what we hope will be the new All-Star format: Two team captains. We haven't decided how we want to decide these captains but we're thinking we will allow anyone to apply to be a captain, then we will put everyone who applied on a poll and let the community vote for the captains. We're still figuring this part out (suggestions are welcome) and I'll note what we're doing for captains this season at the end of this post. BOG votes for whom they feel should be in the all-star game. Those people are all entered into a draft pool. Next season we will holding a community vote for the last 2 forwards, 2 defensemen, and 2 goaltenders but, again due to time constraints, the BOG will decide the entire draft pool this season. Captains draft teams from players in the draft pool. First pick will be decided by random draw, and will alternate back and forth after that. League will then vote for starters from each team. In conjunction with this new all-star format, there will also be a 'Young Stars' game which will feature top VHLM prospects as well as VHL rookies who weren't selected for the VHL All-Star Game. Regular season sims will continue throughout this process, however there will be a 1 or 2 day pause when the actual game is simmed. Jardy will let everyone know about the scheduling when the time comes. As I mentioned above, we didn't have time to organize a process to choose captains this season so @Phil and @sterling have graciously offered to be the team captains this season. We also wanted to make this a bigger deal than it has been in the past, so we'll be offering a little reward: Anyone who submits an all-star related point task next week (Jan 31-Feb 6) is eligible to have that point task doubled. Welfare claims are not eligible to be doubled, and this is the only week in which this reward is valid. The BOG is currently voting for players to be in the All-Star game and I'll have more info on when the draft will be and such when that process is complete. This season is intended to be a trial run of this, so any and all suggestions on how we can improve this are welcome. (Just started thanks to Molholt.) But this is hardly the place, could show some respect for the new idea which we all think could be pretty good. We feel it will help with pacing, since we tend to stack so much at the end of the off-season with very much going on during the season. It was never supposed to be this way, it just sorta stuck. Nice to see the festivities finally falling where they logically should.
