The portal was lost when our old forum and server went down. After 3 seasons without the portal I am happy to announce that it is back for Season 38. The portal provides an easy way to see a players whole VHL and VHLM career on one page and is very valuable to the leagues interface.

I am also happy to say that we managed to gather enough data to resurrect the portal beginning with Season 21. This means that the portal contains 17 seasons worth of statistics for players starting in S21 up to S37 so far. You can now compare yourself to legends of the modern VHL such as Rauno Pajari or Evgeni Galchenyuk.

There are a few known hiccups with the old stats. Some VHLM seasons also show the affiliated VHL team in the simulation on the stats list with 0GP. When there was a mid-season trade the stats aren't shown for the player on both teams, but the stats are added together to the team the player was traded to. I hope these won't be a problem going forward with S38.

Moher restores confidence; plans to "fuck shit up"

DAVOS, SWITZERLAND -- As S38 approaches, the HC Davos Dynamo are readying themselves for another run at a cup title. Although they were swept in the S37 championship series, the team has a renewed confidence in winning the title this year behind a more focused goaltender.

"I really feel like this is the season I will start coming into my own," Moher said at a pre-season workout yesterday, "I plan on being one of the top goaltenders in the league. When you say, 'LeBeau' or 'Tukio', you're also going to think 'Moher' this season. I'll be disappointed if I don't separate myself from some of the goalies in the younger generation this season."

Davos brings back most of their team from last year, with the exception of star forward Sergey Brovalenko. The Dynamo will need budding stars Davey Jones and Naomi Young to pick up some of the offensive production along with big contributions from returning veterans Thomas Landry, Jarkko Olsen, and Felix Zamora.  Time will tell if Moher is able to shore up some of the poor play from last season and truly become an elite goaltender.

The history of the Vasteras Iron Eagles is miserable. They have been to the playoffs just 14 times in 37 seasons (and just 4 times since S18). That, along with their disparate four finals appearances (just two of them coming since S2), demonstrate why the Iron Eagles are considered to be the worst franchise is VHL history. Despite this, Keiji Toriyama last season signed away the remainder of his career to the club.

Toriyama has been one of the top players for the Iron Eagles since they traded for him during S36, but the rest of the team hasn't responded in kind to his extraordinary play. This season, however, things will be different because #DoItForKT is now trending on Twitter with over 10 billion tweets per minute using the hashtag. It is true that it is not Keiji Toriyama's final season in the VHL, so Vasteras will actually be 'doing it for KT' for the next three seasons.

The hashtag is of course a reference to Keiji Toriyama's favorite musical artist, KT Tunstall, who happens to claim Toriyama as a favorite player.

In by far the easiest Hall of Fame session by the Board of Governors, a unanimous decision sees the induction of 3 worthy Hall of Famers: 2 Players and 1 Builder.

    ------------

The two players have been very unlucky to have retired at the same time as greats such as David Smalling, Alexander Labatte, Alexander Chershenko, and Ryan Sullivan, but this shouldn't take away from their accomplishments. At the time of writing, Phil Rafter and Volodymyr Rybak are in the top 6 all-time scorers and in the top 5 all-time goal-scorers and from S27 to S35 you couldn't go a season without seeing at least one of them among the VHL's offensive leaders.

    C - Phil Rafter, S27-S34
    576 GP, 407 G, 485 A, 892 P, +342, 109 PIM, 80 HIT, 350 SB, 66 GW

    S28 Francis Trophy
    S29 Francis Trophy
    S30 Francis Trophy
    S32 Brett Slobodzian Trophy
    S32 Mike Szatkowski Trophy
    S32 Kevin Brooks Trophy
    S33 Mikka Virkkunen Trophy
    One Continental Cup (S31)

    LW - Volodymyr Rybak, S28-S35
    576 GP, 398 G, 486 A, 884 P, +369, 447 PIM, 1075 HIT, 292 SB, 56 GW

    S31 Scotty Campbell Trophy
    S31 Lemieux Trophy
    S31 Joe Malone Memorial Trophy
    S35 Scott Boulet Trophy
    One Continental Cup (S30)

    ------------

Meanwhile, the inducted Builder is recently retired Seattle Bears GM Greg Harbinson. In addition to his recent tenure as the Bears GM (S34-S37), Greg also managed the team from S20 to S28, winning a Continental Cup along the way.

With players Greg Harbinson, Hall of Famer Markus Strauss, Felix Peters, and Zack Sound, Greg spent 24 seasons with the Seattle Bears franchise from Season 13 to Season 37. No other member contributed more to the Seattle Bears or arguably any other VHL organisation than Greg Harbinson.

    ------------

With that, congratulations to the S37 VHL Hall of Fame inductees: Phil Rafter, Volodymyr Rybak, and Greg Harbinson.

And the winner of the S37 Grimm Jonsson Trophy is....

    THOMAS LANDRY!

The HC Davos Dynamo captain adds a second trophy to his cabinet with 5 votes for LeBeau's 4, who was the first goalie captain to win the Continental Cup. Riga captain McQueen took the remaining vote but it is Landry who becomes the new constant of Jonsson Trophy voting.

Victor reacted to MapFreak in Claimed:World Peace Leaves Hole, Ali Moves to Royals
Looking to make his mark on a new era in Turku, recently hired General Manager METIS pulled the trigger on the first trade of the S37 Offseason:

     Turku Receives:
    S38 Bern 1st

     Bern Receives:
    S38 Turku 3rd
(S37) RW - Azmet Ali, TPE: 110 (DAV)

The Outlaws GM and his trading partner, Bern Royals GM AwfulHomesick, found the negotiations smooth and both sides feel like they’ve made a good deal. If Turku’s intentions are to acquire Bruno Wolf (based on the trade voided as the deadline expired), then opening up space on the first line wing would benefit the rookie GM.

Expectations are high for Azmet Ali coming into Bern. Said AwfulHomesick on the trade, “With [Ron] World Peace on his way out, we need a new offensive anchor and I believe Ali has proven himself as a player … to make the step to a first line forward in the VHLM. We welcome him to Bern with open arms.”

Ron World Peace indeed leaves some big skates to fill. The ‘M All-star tallied 185 points patrolling the blue line for the Royals last season – a monolithic feat achieved by few to ever pass through the ‘M. World Peace is projected to be a franchise defenseman that teams can build an offense around.

While Ali is expected to continue developing, his 76 points for the Outlaws last season doesn’t exactly fill the hole left by World Peace. He’ll have to make some improvements to meet those expectations placed on him with the move to Bern. The move could be the first in a paradigm shift for the Royals, who have recently relied on a strong offense to carry them. Ali is more of a defensive winger (though his offensive game is improving), which could mean that AwfulHomesick is planning to shift to a stronger two-way game.

Of course, Ali is not alone in generating offense. He’s projected to be playing with up-and-coming left winger Steven Tremblay, Season 38’s 5th overall pick, on the top line for the Royals. Tremblay didn’t have an overwhelming Season 37, but the two have shown the foundations of chemistry during off season training. GM AwfulHomesick is optimistic, and is actively trying to find a comparable anchor for the two. Beyond the first line are notable ‘M forwards Kristian Stormborn, Milos Denis, and Aaron Hartley as well as lesser known defensemen Lights Bokan. With a few waiver pickups during the offseason, the Royals will once again be poised to make the playoffs at the end of Season 38.

But the fans and management aren’t the only ones setting high expectations for Ali – his biggest critic is himself “Obviously this is the biggest challenge I’ve faced,” said the American-born winger of himself. “I have to play the best I’ve ever played, you know? Obviously the fans want to see me succeed, and they want to see the team succeed, you know? I had a good run in Turku and I grew a lot there and the management there placed a lot of faith in me and I’m grateful for that, but at the end of the day it’s Bern who wanted me more, you know? I’m ready to play and ready to give the club, the fans, and the city what they wanted me for.”

Will sit out S37 ASG; Chekhov moves in

DAVOS, SWITZERLAND -- Dynamo goaltender Lennox Moher is in the news again, and we're not sure what to make of it.  The third-year goalie became the first ever VHL player to turn down an all-star game nomination, deferring to Evgeni Chekhov.  We're not quite sure what to make of it, but it is most certainly odd.

"Evgeni was a better goalie this year," Moher said, "A better goalie on a worse team. You put him on Davos, and maybe the Dynamo win it this year."

Chekhov had a slightly better save percentage than Moher, while allowing more goals per game. Still, Moher requested to be removed from the game. "I just think I have to play better if I want to be recognized like that," he stated at after Team USA practice Wednesday, "I'm more motivated than I've ever been; I don't want to have another season like I did. I need to turn it around and give the United States a chance at winning gold."
