Perrin shares his thoughts on the season's first week

The first week of the VHL season has come and went. Prague finished off the week with a disappointing 1-4-1 record which is only better than the other expansion franchise, the D.C. Dragons. We ended up reaching Defenseman, Seabass Perrin  at a local coffee shop to ask him a his thoughts about his team's first week.

"Before the season began the critics were already out saying we're going to be a terrible team this season. I'm trying to prove them wrong here and I used those comments to fuel some rage into my game a bit. Overall I feel like we haven't played that bad but we're nowhere close to where I want us to be of course. We proved however so far that we can in fact compete out there on the ice and we're not a team to be taken easily. We're all trying to be that team that's just a pain in the ass to play against. Because in the end a frustrated scorer doesn't usually tend to produce very much. If we can keep up our intensity and effort levels here and I don't see how we don't improve from this point on. We're a young team and we're only just getting started everyone. "

When asked how he feels about his increased role as a member of Phantoms he also had the following comments:

"I feel like I've been given a dream opportunity to prove myself here. The coaching staff has faith in my abilities and gave me and Wolf Stansson Jr. the unique opportunity to play top pairing minutes in our first respective seasons in the VHL. Nowhere else would I be playing the minutes I am now, I didn't even get top pairing minutes in the minors for fucks sake. Now I just got to repay my coaches the favor by giving it my all on the ice every day and hopefully the results will follow soon enough. "

Introducing the Prague Phantoms (Part 1/2)

The Czech Republic has had deep hockey history that's seen its peaks during the powerhouse Czech World Cup teams of the late 90s and early 2000s that included the likes of ex-NHLers like Radek Dvorak, Pavel Kubina, Robert Reichel, Petr Sykora, Milan Hejduk, Patrik Elias, Dominik Hasek, Martin Straka and Jaromir Jagr. These teams won an olympic title and three straight IIHF World Chamionships between 1999-2001.

Well that was the peak until now, as the VHL has decided to include Prague as a destination for one of their VHL Expansion Teams this season. The country had been experiencing lows when it comes to excitement for the sport of hockey but that has all completely turned around as the Phantoms had already sold out of season tickets months before their inaugural season opener. The Czech's love for the game has revived itself after being FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY by the KHL and lately much ignored by the NHL.

In this article I plan to introduce the team members of the new Prague Phantoms. We're going to start with the forwards and work our way down from there.

    THE FORWARDS

    F - Erik Draven

Draven was highly touted by the Phantoms as he was selected first overall in the expansion draft to become to the player in the teams history. Draven played a full season in the VHLM last year and has shown some excellent leadership qualities as a member of the Yukon Rush. Obviously those leadership qualities didn't go ignored as Draven was named the teams first captain in the team's history. He had a slow start in the VHLM last season but had a strong finish soon after being placed on the Rush's 2nd line where he found chemistry with fellow Phantom Willie Dredge. He ended his VHLM season a goal shy of 30 goals and a point shy of 60 pts.  We predict Draven to start the season on the Phantom's first line as the team looks to build around his character.

    F -  Scotty BigSotty

Scotty is on of the bigger offensive threats on the ice for the Phantoms. He had a stellar VHLM season last year as he posted 31 goals and 52 points for the Philadelphia Reapers. Scotty was selected with the 7th pick of the Expansion draft. The Moscow Menace originally drafted the man 22nd overall in the S67 Entry Draft after his first season in Philly but surprisingly gave him up after he improved his point totals by 64 points. The Phantom are happy to take Scotty off the Menace's hands and he's rumoured to be penciled in as the Phantoms first line center this season.

    F - Willie Dredge

Dredge was drafted in hopes that he'd recreate last year's chemistry he had with captain, Erik Draven. Dredge being a year younger than Draven was selected in this year's VHL Entry Draft with Prague's 19th overall pick. The Phantoms hopes he will build on his last season in the VHLM with the Rush where he had solid numbers with 22 goals and 53 points. The speedy winger will be deployed alongside Draven on the team's first line at the season's opener but he has to be consistent as the Rush have a more experienced Don Draper that could easily slide into that spot as well.

    F - Blake Laughton

Finally some VHL experience. Laughton was acquired early on in the season from the New York American in a trade for Dalton Wilcox who was drafted in the expansion draft by the Phantoms but requested a trade to join his friend Frederik Elmebeck shortly after Elmebeck was drafted by the Americans. Laughton however will fit in well with the team on paper as he is one of a few members of the Phantoms to have previous VHL experience.  Laughton had a 37 point rookie campaign last year for the Americans but his defensive play is something to be desired as he went -26. The Americans drafted Laughton hoping he'd bring some goal scoring prowess to their team after his 41 goal season in the VHLM. After letting him go for Wilcox after his rookie season, Laughton is looking forward to showing the Americans up and prove that they picked the wrong player. He is slated to being the season on the teams 2nd line.

    F - Don Draper

Another player with some VHL experience Don Draper has all the tools to be a true defensive forward. Unlike Laughton he learned the defensive side of the game rather quickly but his offensive game is lacking as he only put up 17 points for Davos in his rookie season. Draper however thinks he can improve his offense this year and be more of a consistent scorer playing for his new team in what's going to be his sophomore season. If thats the case I can see the team give him more ice time but for now we will find Draper playing on the teams 2nd line.

    F - Zeno Miniti

Miniti is another rookie here that's up to make his debut soon. Miniti although is coming off an incredible season where he lead the Founder's Cup Winning Ottawa Lynx in scoring and also lead the VHLM in points with his 55 goal, 134 point season. In the playoffs Miniti continued his high scoring ways as he put up 22 points in 15 games. With all that being said Miniti is probably the biggest offensive tool at the Phantoms disposal and it's a wonder how GM, Jasson Glasser was able to acquire him and defenseman Bert Meyers for a meager 3rd round draft pick in S70.

    F- Alex Pearsson

Is another big scoring threat as he was chasing Zeno Miniti for the VHLM scoring title for a good portion of the season until he hit a slump. Still a campaign with 48 goals and 98 points is not something other teams will overlook. It was a surprise to find out that Pearsson wasn't lined up to play with his former Reaper teamate, Scotty BigShotty. Maybe this is a attempt to spread out the scoring by the Phantoms Head Coach, who knows. Pearsson will at least be paired with Scotty however on the teams first powerplay unit, so maybe we will get a chance to see them recreate some of their magic from last season.

That does it for the forwards folks. Toomoorow I will be releasing the Defenseman and Goalie portion of this segment and I hope this article has offered some insight on our team for our fans in Prague. The team looks forward to your support and are anxious to get the show on the road.

Seabass got a reaction from chillzone in Perrin draft day interview [2/2]
    Perrin Draft Day Interview

Hello and good sunday morning I'm Pierre McGuire here for NBC and today is the big day that's been circled on many young VHLM players calendars for months. Today, is VHL Entry Draft Day and the excitement level this year is a lot higher than usual. It's a lot more exciting this year as we got 2 new expansion teams, the Prague Phantoms and the D.C Dragons looking to make splashes at the draft in order to build themselves solid teams going forward.

Today we're here covering the entry draft and we're here for a one on one interview with Seabass Perrin who is eligible to be selected in this year's draft. Perrin, thank you for taking the time to talk to us here today.

No problem Pierre. I'm happy to be here.

Now that I have you here I want to find out a little bit about yourself. I understand your born and raised in none other than Calgary, Aberta. That being said, do you secretly hope the Wranglers take you here today since I assume you grew up a Wranglers fan?

Well you assumed right as I did indeed grow up a Wranglers fan however I'm not here to restrict myself to just one team here. The VHL has now 12 franchises and honestly i'll gladly play on any team that has faith in my abilities on the ice and are willing to take a chance on me by selecting me in the VHL draft here today.

Alright well, do you have any predictions on where you think your going to be selected here in this year's draft?

No not really. I'm not going to go out and just say a number here. I just care that I'm selected at all, not when I end up being selected. I know I had a decent year as a member of the strong Yukon Rush defense corps. We did great this year as we let the fewest goals allowed in the VHLM and i'm proud that our team was able to accomplish that feat. However I still need to further refine my game here, i'm still getting better and I'm just looking forward to growing as a player with my new team mates where ever that may be.

Well are you at least looking forward to getting away from the arctic after being there for a year?

Honestly I enjoyed my time as a member of the Rush and I enjoyed my time in the Yukon itself as well. I've always been an avid fisherman and I definitely took advantage of the ample fishing opportunities there. I recommend any future players to just give the Yukon a chance, you might just fall in love with it. Not to mention the management crew over there really help you feel at home.

So I want to move on here to your on ice abilities, what kind of player to see yourself being in the VHL?

Well I always envisioned myself as more of a defensive defenseman and I always have been throughout junior hockey. I enjoy playing a more physical brand of hockey but in the end a defenseman's job is to be able to defend and that's my main focus. This year I really improved my game in the offensive zone and gained a lot of confidence handling the puck thanks to the wonderful Rush coaching staff. However,  I think my 12 powerplay goals this season was somewhat of a surprise and I don't expect to be able to reproduce that in the big leagues, so I dont want my stats here to give GMs the wrong impression here, I don't consider myself a powerplay specialist.

Well your honesty is appreciated Seabass but that all does it for our time here as I have many other prospects to cover today, but I appreciate the insight you've given to me today and I wish you good luck on your future endeavors.

Thanks Pierre, have fun out there.

    1. I'm beyond excited I couldn't of asked for a better scenario for myself by being drafted by a expansion team. During my rookie season, it's not only me out there that's going to be a fresh face, everyone here is new. So, it's kinda a fresh start for everyone we're all starting off at the same point.

2, Well the best way for me to improve out there is by consistently giving my all on the ice and showing up at practice and to go ham at the gym and gain some strength and mass.

    3. Well I never got the oppurtunity to get paired with Wolf Stansson Jr. during our time in the Yukon, so I'm looking forward on seeing how our games would mesh together.

    4. I fucking love it

    5. Well my personal goal this year is to be better than DC. We gotta establish ourselves early on as the better expansion team out there.

    6. I think we could use some depth everywhere really. But specially we gotta get ourselves a backup.

    1) Will you be wanting to get drafted by Yukon in S68,or is there any other team you want to be drafted to?

"Here we are fresh off the draft floor with newly drafted VHL prospect Seabass Perrin.

Seabass how does it feel to be part of the Phantoms after they've selected you 17th overall in the 2nd round of the draft."

"Well first off i'm surprised to go this early in the draft but I'm also very excited to be a part of this team in what's going to be their inaugural VHL season. There's also so many familiar guys that I've played with in the Yukon that are also now members of the Phantoms like Willy Dredge, Erik Draven and Wolf Stansson Jr. so I feel like some things have changed, but some have not. Ha ha. Anyways everything is just surreal right now and i'm just stoked to jump on the ice in one of them fancy new jerseys. I want to thank my parents for making all of this possible, my grandpa Seb and my girlfriend for supporting me chasing my hockey dreams. "

    1) Did you believe Yukon would make it at least past the 1st round in these current playoffs?
Of course I did, I had full faith that we'd beat Halifax in the first round. I'm still pretty torn up about how that series ended up going down.

    2) Who would be your pick for Top scorer on this years Yukon team?
Well Plunkett was technically our top scorer but give Frans Eller some props for stepping up and becoming that #1 center that we desperately needed. He didn't do too bad at all for a first year center.

    3) Who would you consider the Top defenseman on the current Yukon team?
Flowers was our leader on the blue line. He logged the most minutes and I blame him and A red guy for how very few goals allowed we've had over the season.

    4) Are you happy with having played with the Rush this year? & why?
Playing with these guys have been a blast. It's a shame it's all comming to end so soon though. We had so much unreached potential, we all just gelled and played well together. Just frustrating we couldn't put it all together when it counts the most.

    5) Who was your favorite Personality on the team this year?
I think Erik Draven was our most vocal personality in the room and stepped up and took on more of a leadership role for this team.

    6) If given the chance what two players would you play with again?
I'd play with any of these guys again they're all great guys. But, due to on ice chemistry I"ll have to select Draven and Willie Dredge.

Seabass got a reaction from Elmebeck in Perrin dissapointed with Rush's early playoff exit.
Perrin appeared on a Whitehorse radio station and gave his thoughts on his team's heartbreaking loss in the first round of the VHLM playoffs at the hands of the Halifax 21st, 4 games to 1.

" Well obviously i'm dissapointed, I think we all believed that we had a good enough team to be able to advance further into the playoffs. We had good team morale going in at the end of the season and it seemed like we we're rolling. But, then somehow everything just didn't go our way and we went off the rails. The games we're mostly all tight and were decided by one goal.  I feel that we just weren't getting very much puck luck out there at all and that left most of our group just simply frustrated. "

Perrin also spoke about the future of the team moving forward.

"Well I had a lot of fun with this group and it's sad to see this group breakup as many members of the team will get drafted by vhl teams and move forward with those teams. Some of us will have to go back to the dispersal draft even. So we're not going to be left with much. I however have full confidence the GM Josh will find himself a way to build himself another solid team for next season either through the draft or through trade. "

Seabass reacted to Matt_O in The S11 Game 7 between the Reign and the Dynamo needs a deep rewind
It's Game seven in Davos, and the Reign are up 4-1. These two teams are in the middle of a bitter rivalry, and the crowd is roaring after a huge fight between the teams. Nobody could have guessed what would happen next, and how the next 14 seconds would change VHL history. This game needs a deep rewind.

Shortly after the Dynamo had relocated from Avangard, they found themselves in a serious rivalry with the Riga Reign. Both being in the European Conference, the two teams were very similar in style and were always very close in the standings. Their goaltender Benoit Deveroux ( @Cowboy ) is one of the greatest goaltenders ever, with an ungodly .940 save percentage in S11. They also had Zach Arce, who hadn't become a superstar yet, but was in the early stages of his career. That can also be said about Tomas Jenskovic ( @scotty )who would eventually become a Hall of Famer but wasn't a star yet. What really pushed these two teams into their rivalry was the acquisition of Jonathan Matthias, who would score 61 goals and 76 assists for Davos in S11, alongside winning the MVP. This trade from the offseason gave Davos the edge on Riga, and they finished with the number one seed in the conference.

While the Dynamo were a great team, we can't forget to talk about Riga. They had the talents of Torstein Schwartz, Kyle McLeod and Vladimir Klement. Despite having no hall of famers (Davos had three) They finished just behind Davos in the standings, but in their head to head matchups, they were practically dead even. Davos had four wins, Riga had six, with three of those coming in a shootout. And in their series, it looked like these two were very evenly matched.

In the third period of game one, this intense rivalry and the hatred boiled over, and there was a huge fight between the two teams. Game one was perhaps a wake up call for Davos, since Riga dominated them in the shot category, and beat them 3-1 to steal home ice from an elite Davos squad. Game two was led by their fourth line and Benoit Deveroux, which they stole from Riga and they tied up the series.

Game three saw yet another line brawl, this time involving Jonathan Matthias, Zach Arce, and Vladimir Klement, three stars from either team. Despite Matthias two goals in just four seconds, Riga held on to win game three, and bounced back after a disappointed game two. In game four, Tomas Ziegler put a loose puck in the back of the net late in the third, which put Davos ahead by one. The Dynamo held on to win that game, and tie the series at two.

Two massive fights in only four games between teams isn't normal for a playoff series, but this wasn't any normal series. These two teams hated each other.

"Things definitely culminated in S11 and formed arguably the best rivalry in league history."
    -Tomas Jenskovic

Game five featured more beatdowns, with Jartavius O'Neal pounding an unknown Riga player. More goals from the fourth line led to this game heading Davos' way, and Riga would play for their lives in game six. In game six, it was the Reign that finished on top, and they had forced what seemed to be inevitable; Game 7.

    Game 7 in Davos

The game the VHL had been waiting for had begun, and it started with a bang. With seven minutes remaining in the first, another big fight broke out, with three players from each team heading to the box. More back and forth action between the teams led to a Riga goal, and they silenced the fans and took the lead. They continued to pile on, scoring another before the end of the first. While the game was young, it didn't look so great for Davos.

The second period started and the crowd got even quieter; Riga scored again to make their lead 3-0. It was a pitiful effort from Davos at their home arena. Late in the second, Davos finally broke through, as Tuvia Bielski scored to make it 3-1. It wasn't totally over yet, until Ace Lightning immediately responded and gave Riga their three goal lead back. Heading into the third period, the Zurich Center was quiet. The game seemed out of reach. The Dynamo had twenty minutes to save their season.

The first ten minutes of the third came and went, before another huge fight broke out. Jartavius O'Neal sent the crowd into a frenzy, and the building was electric. Despite being down 4-1, the fans were going crazy.

Before I get to this next part, we need to take a break and talk about Tomas Ziegler. He was a big peice of Davos' success, as he had decided to sign their in free agency during the S10 offseason. He originally played on Riga, and was heckled by his former teammates. He was a traitor by joining his old teams biggest rival. He finished with 96 points in S11, and was the anchor of the second line for Davos.

After the massive fight with O'Neal, only twenty four ticks of the clock went by before the crowd erupted once again. Tomas Ziegler, a former Riga player, put the puck into the back of the net to make the score 4-2, with 9:17 left in the third. The building was alive, the crowd was deafening. Right off the face off, Sebastian Perrin won it forward and it was picked up by Matthias. He skated past the defender on the blue line and snapped a wicked wrist shot from the hashmarks. The red light flashed. It was 4-3. Four seconds had passed. Zurich Center had never been louder. Davos was back in it.

Sebastian Perrin won the faceoff back to Tomas Jenskovic, who ripped a pass to Jonathan Matthias. Matthias was streaking into the offensive zone, and found himself on a partial break. He turned, took a quik shot, and scored. It was 4-4. Fourteen seconds had passed. The only word to describe this was miraculous. The final nine minutes played out, and we headed to overtime.

Davos scores three goals in 14 seconds to tie the game

The first overtime began, and it belonged to Riga. They dominated the entire period, putting 22 shots on Deveroux, who stopped all 22. Davos did nothing, and barely made it out alive. We had double overtime. The madness would continue. But in double overtime, it wouldn't take long. Tomas Ziegler would make a mark of Dynamo history that no one could have ever guessed would of happened. He sniped one over the shoulder of Reign goaltender Marek van Urho, and the Dynamo capped one of the most epic comebacks the VHL has ever seen.

A comeback for the ages marked the beginning of HC Davos hockey. They would go on to win the S13 Continental Cup, but failed to win again until S20. The Reign continued their dominance, with a finals berth in S12 and a Continental Cup in S16. This moment in VHL history will stand as perhaps the single greatest moment in VHL history.

Seabass got a reaction from gorlab in Perrin in Quebec City to help fund autism research
Perrin was recently seen in Quebec City over the weekend at a fundraiser diner/meet-and-greet for autism research. Perrin was one of a few VHL players or prospects to attend the event. Perrin, who has a autistic younger brother claims that this is a cause that he takes to heart and to expect to see his participation in the annual fundraiser every year it's held. Perrin was set to only attend to meet with fans and sign autographs with the proceeds going to Autism Research Canada but he ended up speaking a few words at the diner.

" Autism is a issue that becomes ever more common with every passing generation. In the past it was considered rare to have autism today, 1 in 66 children in Canada are diagnosed with autism and if we don't trace the root causes of this disorder it's only going to get worse. It's time to act. "

Perrin also took some time to poke at some of the recent cuts the Ford government in Ontario have made in the health sector, including cuts autism support services in the province.

Perrin also spoke on the local radio station with hockey analyst Michel Bergeron over the weekend where he urged the VHL to consider awarding a expansion franchise to the city of Quebec.

"From my understanding Quebec had a team before, I dont know why the team ended up leaving but it's time for this hockey mad city to have another team. The people are ready to support a team, there's demand for it and with there not being a NHL team here I think it's a great opportunity for the VHL to swoop in here to try and steal some of that market in the province of Quebec. Yukon Rush S67 Coverage Vol 2. , The Awakening

This is going to be a weekly thing now as I've decided to keep going with a weekly coverage of the Yukon Rush team. These articles will basically just follow the team's games and offer some insight on how the team is feeling morale wise going through the various ups and downs of a season.  My coverage usually features actual quotes taken from various members of the team and management, as I don't like feeding words into other people mouths just for article content.

In last week's article, vol.1 I talked about this week's two games against the Minnesota Storm and how I expected that we were going to see a fairly defensive type of hockey displayed in those two games.  I also explained how I thought Minnesota had the edge going in, but boy did the boys made my eat my word there as they ended up winning both those games against the Storm. The games were real tight though as they were both decided by one goal. The first game, game #98 started off with another clutch goal by the Girth God, his second after being previously released by GM Josh earlier on in the season. The game featured a two point performance by Seabass Perrin who was given the first star of the game and a game winning goal by Erik Draven who earned the 2nd star. The game was real tight, so tight that they matched each others shots on net totals at 20 shots. It was in the end decided by Erik Draven's powerplay goal at the tail end of the third after a.

The second of the two games, game #109 was won by the same score of 3-2  but this time it was won by shootout. This game featured a 2 point performance by both the Storm's Kefka Palazzo and the Rush's Brendan Plunkett who continues his PPG pace this season. This game also contained the long awaited arrival of Lance Flower's first goal of the season. This one had to be decided by a shootout winner by no other than Erik Draven. Draven proved to be the critical piece to both wins against Minnesota, I caught up with him after the game to ask him his thoughts after such a performance.

It's pretty simple really, I'm here to do a job and every night I'm expected to deliver. I try to elevate my game against the tougher opponents, maybe I'm getting that puck luck when I need it. Our team needs to continue to beat the good teams in order to get in the playoffs. We have a excellent chance to prove something this year.
    -Erik Draven

It sure was nice to see the team defeat a top team like the storm however, they had those wins mixed in with a few losses against other teams like the 4-3 loss in game #99 against the Houston Bulls
and the 1-0 loss in game 110 against the San Diego Marlins. Against both teams the Rush played well and kept the game tight. Against Houston the Rush fell after a late goal by David Willcox with 2 minutes left on the clock in the third. That was Willcox's 2nd goal of the game and third point of the night, and such a performance earned him the first star of the game. Against San Diego it was all about goaltending as both goalies dueled it out all game and kept the nets empty throughout the game. The game ended by a shootout winner by the Marlins' Diamond Duster in the fith shootout round. As expected both goaltenders, Bruce Grimaldi and A Red Guy got both the first and second stars respectively.

The team then went on a tear with 4 straight wins against the VHLM worse teams, where they outscored their opponents 16 to 5 and outshot their opponents 109 to 43. Those 4 games included 3 games straight against the Las Vegas Aces and a game against the Mississauga Hounds. In the 4 wins the Rush's top line of Brendan Plukett, Frans Eller and Justin Rushmore combined for 18 points. With Eller getting 8 points (2 goals + 6 assists) and Plunkett getting 7 points (4 goals + 3 assists) the team had almost two players who were playing at 2 Points per game pace. Tony Bolonee who made his debut after getting picked up by the Rush scored his first point of the season after setting up Frans Eller for a easy goal in the 2nd period of the game against the Hounds.

The team then faced tougher competition after their few easy games. Sadly the team crumbled once there was some good hockey to be played as they ended up losing 3-1 against the third ranked team, the Ottawa Lynx. The Lynx ended the team's 4 game winning streak but they ended up bouncing back from the loss and finished off the week with two more wins. This time the victims were the Saskatoon Wild and the Halifax 21st as the Rush beat the Wild 4-1 and Halifax 2-0. A Red Guy doesn't get enough recognition from me but please note here that A Red Guy has only let in a average of 1.5 goals per game in the eleven games played this week. He's been winning games and is proving to be very good at keeping his team within one goal of the opposition in the event that they are trailing in a game.

In the end the team had a record of 9-2 during this week's games and if the Rush keep up the current play in the next 10 games I'd say they would solidify their playoff contender position and reputation around the league. Now as I conclude this week's vol. 2 I would like to introduce a new addition to my weekly coverage.  At the end of every volume i'll award a weekly MVP for the Rush where I judge who's been the most instrumental player for the team that given week.

    WEEKLY MVP
This weeks MVP was a close one between Draven and Eller but I have to go with Frans Eller here. Eller this week led the team with 13 points and is proving that he can make everyone around him better as he notches 10 assists. He's hot and lets hope he remains red hot as next week contains a tougher schedule.

Now that's a wrap for this week's coverage, i'll have vol 3. out next week so stay tuned!

After 5 straight losses against some of the top VHLM teams in the standings earlier in the week the Rush had hit a low point morale wise.
They opened up the season well with a 6-1 record in their first 7 games. However, they had a tough schedule ahead after that with the
next few games being against top teams in the VHLM. The team was primed to solidify themselves as a top team and to proove they
were a playoff contender this year. Their winning record however quickly dissolved into a losing record after that and the Rush
ended up losing their next 6 games with 2 pairs of losses comming at the hands of the Reapers and the Lynx.

Rookie Defenseman Seabass Perrin describes the low his team experienced after their loss in Minnesota:

"We're just very frustrated with our play as nothing was going well for us. We're barely generating any shots on goal
let alone scoring opportunities. Every team we faced seem to outshoot us and outplay us. Just pisses you off knowing every member
of your team is putting in full effort yet still were comming up drastically short. We need a change, something, anything just
to shake things up because nothing is working out."

After their loss in Minnesota, Yukon split their home and home series with a 5-0 rout of Mexico in their win. That win would end their
6 game skid and it started to turn things around for the team.

Yukon Rush winger, Erik Draven has had a real tough time up to that point. The Rush drafted him in hopes he would solidify
the right side of the ice on the first line but he has struggled out of the gate this season only managing to get
a measily 5 points playing on the top line with Eller and Plunkett in his first 14 games. One thing Draven has done well however
is bang bodies and he leads all Rush forwards in hits (41). After the last game against Mexico, changes ended up going down and the GM
decided on mixing up the lines. Since those changes things have improved and he has 3 goals in his last 4 games.

"Yeah, since I wasn’t productive on the first line in those 14 games I asked (GM Josh) to be demoted to 2nd line to try to help the
team find an even balance. We had our 1st line too stacked and needed to spread at least one high skill level player on every line.
So, with Josh putting me on the 2nd line and switching me from RW to Center it really helped. My shot totals have went from like 2 per
game to 4-6 a game. I’m really happy to finally be contributing and finding chemistry with Sami and Willie. I love playing with this
team and I hope with me being vocal and showing leadership on the ice will pay off someday in the future. I am not afraid of taking on a
leadership role and will fully embrace it."
    -Erik Draven

Well the changes seem to have worked out for the whole team as they've now won 3 out of their last 4 games. We got a hold of top line
center Frans Eller. We got to ask him, "How do you and your team prepare to keep the current momentum going and not fall back to old ways"

"We need to just go back to basics, put pucks in deep, push bodies on pucks, force turnovers, and let our creativity take over."
    -Frans Eller

One bright spot on the season though has been Brendan Plunkett who in 18 games is close to doubling his VHLM Career high of 15pts set
last season with the Minnesota Storm in 73 games. He's at 24 points right now playing at above a point per game, is tenth on the VHLM
top scorers list and is leading the team in points. He's done whats expected of him and more, and if the Rush want to continue winning,
they'll need him to keep doing much of the same.

Lance Flowers who has always been seen as guaranteed to go top 3 overall in the next VHL draft, has been solid so far but needs to be even better
if the Rush plan to contend this season. He has a respectful 18pts in 18 games and is relied on heavily by the rush as he leads all players in
ice time. He leads all Rush players in hits (43) and blocked shots (24) so he's obsviously no slouch in the defensive zone either. However solid he
may have been he still needs to take his game to yet another level still if this team has any chance to really contend. He has to have a league MVP
season for that to happen at this rate.

The next 4 games feature a pair of games against the Minnesota Storm so Rush fans are hopeful that the team can exact some revenge after
their last and only meeting of the season ended in a 3-2 loss. In the last game we got to see a more defensive game between the two teams
as the whole game featured only 34 shots between both teams. The game featured a dominant performance by Storm defenseman Danny DeYeeto who had
a 2 point performance including a goal and a assist on the game winner by Berock Sundqvist. DeYeeto has been playing very well so far this
season and is tied with the Rush's Plunkett for tenth on the VHLM scoring list. However to show the difference here between the two team a little,
Plunkett is first on the Rush's scoring list, DeYeeto however is fourth for the Storm. This goes to show the Storm have been absolutely amazing.

The Storm obviously have the edge comming into those games as they are currently on a 4 game winning streak after a dominant 3-0 win against the Hounds and
are currently on top of the VHLM standings by a 3 point margin. We'll see how it all goes down starting toomorow for the first game against the Storm.

team find an even balance.

    Yukon Rush S67 Draft Coverage

Today, I will cover the first 5 rounds of the Yukon Rush's draft selections from this past draft where I will analyse
the players selected and give predictions and where I think they're all going to fit in the opening night lineup.
The S67 took place July 2nd 2018 in Sydney,Australia and many fans ended up taking the long and expensive plane
across the globe to Australia in order to follow the teams' draft selections live and in person.

    Lance Flowers

The Yukon Rush opened up the draft by selecting defenseman, Lance Flowers with their much anticipated
2nd overall pick at the draft.

The giant 6'7", 244 pound defenseman and is currently ranked #1 in the S68 VHL Draft Class so you know
there is definitely a player here to be hyped about. Not only is he large in stature but he combines that size
with a little bit of speed as well. Add that with the fact the guy can also carry a powerplay on his back with
his slick passing abilities. Actually, there isn't really any flaw that stands out in his game at all he can do it all
including knocking your ass to the ice on a nightly basis.

I project Flowers to lead the team in minutes played, playing as the teams obvious #1 Defenseman. It was
a great start to the Rush's draft as Flowers was definitely a piece they can build a team around.

    Frans Eller

With the 2nd of their two top 5 selections, the Rush selected a right winger in Frans Eller. The Dane is a little
on the smaller side but showed in his small window of games last year in Houston that he can handle his own
and has some playmaking upside, getting 7pts in 11 GP, 5 of them being assists. However, if you had the label
his style of game I'd say he's more your typical two way player that's solid at both ends of the ice. There's lots of
promise behind Eller as he's ranked 3rd overall currently amongst the S68 draft class and the Rush are banking
on Eller to be a player that will improve as the season goes on.

I project Eller to take up a spot in the PK team as well as play on either top two forward lines. He's a versatile
player that you could just move around the roster as the season goes on as he's able to play well with just
    about anyone.

    Justin Rushmore

With their 2nd round pick the Rush selected left winger, Justin Rushmore. The Rush basically drafted
another two-way player in Rushmore. Rushmore plays more of a shoot first type of game which isn't bad
considering he has a pretty decent shot. He's ranked 10th in the s68 VHL Draft Rankings but i'd say he's
got an edge in the skating department over Eller and the edge is a little surprising considering Rushmore is
    6'5  weighing a little over 220 pounds.

I project Rushmore to play on the Rush's first line with some time on the PK. I expect the Rush to use Rushmore
as their team's go to sniper and maybe fan favourite due to his name containing the word RUSH. and then
followed with the demand of more of it.

    Wolf Stansson Jr.

Selected with the 25th overall pick of the draft, defenseman Wolf Stansson Jr. figures to be more of a
defensive defensemen. He's effective at shutting down passing lanes and won't hesitate to block a
shot for his team. It seems the Rush had a theme in mind drafting yet another huge player as
Stansson Jr. stands at 6'8" and weighs as much as 250lbs! He also isn't afraid of using that size as he
dominates the ice with his physical play. However, he had a unexciting ten game preview for Minnesota
last year but we figure Stansson Jr. to be a big minute cruncher for the Rush, so lets hope he fairs a little
better this time around. Stansson is currently ranked 4th overall in the s69 VHL draft rankings behind
    teammates, Flowers and Eller.

I project Stansson Jr. to play alongside Flowers on the teams top pairing.

    Andrej Petrovic

4 picks later at the 29th overall pick, the Rush went with yet another defenseman in Andrej Petrovic.
I bet nobody ever described him as small, be he is compared to his defensive counterparts at 6'1
190 lbs. Petrovic is a fast skating defensemen that can play anywhere on the roster. He could even
manage to step up and challenge Stansson Jr. for his spot beside Flowers. He's the more offensively
gifted defensemen on the roster after Flowers and is expected to be Flower's partner on the PP. He's
ranked 14th in the s68 draft class rankings.

I project Petrovic to play on the team's 2nd pairing.

    Brendan Plunkett

To close out the third round of the VHLM draft the Rush selected left winger Brendan Plunkett
with the 33rd overall pick. Finally a player with some experience, Plunkett is the first player
selected in this draft to have already have a VHLM season under his belt. His 15 pts in 73 games
in Minnesota isn't very impressive but it was enough to get the attention of the Malmo Nighthawk
scouting team as he got drafted by them in the 5th round of the VHL draft that took place last
week. Plunkett plays more of a playmaking style of game, he can really dish the puck.

I project Plunkett to play on the 2nd trio.

    Erik Draven

With the 36th overall pick of the VHLM draft, the Rush selected right winger Erik Draven. Draven
is probably the best goal scorer selected by the Rush. He's got power and accuracy to his shot, and
he'll get it off quik. However he needs to work on getting faster on his skates to be able to get to
the high scoring areas quicker and to tuck in past defenders.

I figure Plunkett's playmaking style of play will complement Draven very well on the 2nd offensive line.
Expect the coach to give out some powerplay time to Draven as well.

    Seabass Perrin

At 47th overall Perrin was selected not expecting much since this is where the draft really drops off
in player quality. He's currently ranked 26th in the s68 VHL Draft Rankings though after moving up a
couple of spots. He projects to be more of a defensive defenseman. He can hit, he puts his body in front
shots, he has sound positioning too. However, hes a little on the slow side and needs to improve his skating
to keep up in the VHLM. He also needs to learn how to relax with the puck as he seems to be always rushing to
    get rid of it.

I figure Perrin will slot in as a defender on the last pairing if he even makes the team at all because he's shit.

Thats all she wrote for the first 5 rounds of the draft, in total the Rush selected 8 players. Both Flowers
and Eller were also top 5 picks and note that Plunkett was the only player selected in the first five rounds
that has VHLM experience and is already drafted by a VHL team. Does this make him prime candidate for
    captaincy? Stay tuned!
