Yeah, to be clear - the hidden attributes I suggested in my post were for a new project that I would design but not participate in. In current leagues where a group of people have to make that decision and also participate, I think it's unrealistic to expect to be able to hide anything exactly for the reasons you mention. Nobody that participates should ever have that level of an advantage over others.

So I'm one of those who doesn't go into Gen Chat - really a combination of it not being my thing and feeling like I've aged out of it a bit, frankly. But I did want to push back on this point, because I actually really disagree with it. It's an issue that places like Reddit fall into often, where embracing a fully democratized version of moderation will start to self-select your sample towards the extremes. If you have a loud group of people arguing that a GIF shouldn't be a punishable offense, in many cases those who argue that it should be moderated won't care enough to fight the loud voices. They'll simply stop coming. Which makes it seem even more that there's an overwhelming majority, when it's actually just that you've weeded out the other side. And when you get enough of those people who opt out rather than caring to argue, then it gets to be much more of a cliquish view than what you've got right now.

That's why there needs to be some other standard to compare against than simply "democracy rules," and IMO from what I've seen the VHL's mods do a solid job at comparing to the existing code.

The ideal individual should posses the following traits:

    1) Online availability at least 8 hours a day (Please note in application your most active hours) and how often you are on forums/discord.
I am on the forums and discord all day, looking to see where I can post or what games i can play. I often just read stuff when i am bored. Its how i learned how some of the league operated. So I have more then 8 hours. I am usually on from 6 am ESt - 11/12 PM Est. every day.

    2) Be able to respond to discord pings and be verified via 2fa.
already 2FA and Respond anytime someone pings me already. Im a chatty Cathy and love to chill in the Discord.

    3) Older than 20 years (or demonstration of maturity and judgement)
30 years old, I know i am old haha

    4) Not hold other league jobs or associations (GMing) that may pose a conflict of interest (exceptions apply)
not a GM yet but hopefully one day, I am amble to separate one thing form another so my emotions would not be swayed regardless of what other job is held. I can promise you that.

Additional things you may add for consideration:
    - Availability of hours between the times of 1am and 9am MST wanted.
    already am

    - Moderation experience and ability
I am a mod in a few Discords, some over 100+ members.

    - Human resource experience and/or sensitivity classes/training taken
    Had too for my job

    - Any additional reasons why you would be make an appropriate mod.
my goal since I came in was to have fun and better the league. if that means this is how i do it then I would be honored.

    - Ability to deal with difficult situations
I like to think I can. I am usually able to pull myself out of situations to calm down so i can think rationally.

I know what you are thinking, this new annoying member trying to get any job she can. I just really like this league. i have not had this much fun in a long time, and I want to help in anyway I can. so if you consider me thank you, if you dont Thank you for trying to make the league a better and safer place.

I'll throw my name into the hat here.

    1. I'm on discord from pretty much 9am to 11pm most days with the exceptions from about 4-7pm because of other commitments.

    2. I can respond to discord pings quite easily and quickly and also have 2AF already set up.

    3. I am not 20 (I am 18) but believe that I have shown plenty of maturity with the way I have already had to handle situations. I do believe that I can handle situations that present in good and appropriate manner.

    4. I am Halifax GM but am unbiased in manners that come to serious situations. I don't really believe that being a gm would effect my ability to perform at the standard needed for this job. I want to help make the league safer and a better place for all involved in it.

I've had experiences and jobs that have worked with all sorts of people in past where high communication was needed. The experiences made me learn how to communicate with all different types of people and how to handle difficult high stress situations. I have a passion for this league and want to be able to help it improve and continue to move forward. If you have further questions about why I would be a good candidate feel free to reach out.

We’re in the process of moving all our funds so that Sterling doesn’t need to take care of it anymore and once that’s fully complete we plan to be much more straightforward about the funds but to the point of “is it necessary” I would say yes but not in the way you’d expect.

General overhead costs aren’t overly high. Some STHS licenses every once in awhile, hosting costs for the forum and portal, that sorta stuff amounts to very little. Couple hundred bucks a year maybe. The bigger costs are advertising, logo purchasing, and the annual charity drive and prize giveaways. Those cost us far more and if all “revenue” (if you wanted to call it that) dried up we would have to stop doing that sort of thing in order to keep the lights on which would not be ideal. The coffers appear pretty full but they can certainly empty quickly.
To be honest I do disagree with this. If it is a barrier for them it is one that they themselves create. Donations are by no stretch required. My last two players were both first ballot HoF players and combined may have had 2 donations between their careers. The max uncapped you get from donating is 11 TPE per season so in total if you did so every single season you’d be in the vein of 100 TPE, that’s not game breaking over 10 seasons. Obviously we aren’t opposed to people doing it but we’ve never looked at it as something that needs to be done in order to succeed or gain a substantial edge.

So yes, we do want them, but yes we also need cash flow to keep the doors open and the lights on, certainly unless people want to give up a lot of the perks we offer. However I completely disagree that the donations are a barrier for entry or that they make anything “pay to win” since they offer a very low marginal increase to TPE. By no means are we ever expecting that people must donate to be part of the site and we would never ask them to.

As a new member to the Victory Hockey League I have been doing a lot of reading, and a lot of watching. Nothing in life is flawless, nothing is perfect. I wholeheartedly believe the Victory Hockey League is the best simulation game for hockey, even better than EA . With that said I also feel I need to give my opinion as my mother used to always say “you know there is a problem unless you tell someone” so this is me telling you what i have been noticing.

Let me preface this with: the statements in this Media Spot are my OPINION and that only, this is not intended to call out any General Managers, Commissioners, Players, or league Staff this is simply me pointing out what I think to be a problem. I love this site and just want it to be perfect (which is always impossible)

The VHLM is a joke, if the purpose is to Retain and Train new members how to update, play, and get them ready for the VHL then it has failed on a few levels, if it is about winning Championships, awards, and padding your resume then its succeeding on an astounding level. Let me explain. I know that the sim “affects things, and can be random” that's not what I am debating, it's more so about how the VHLM works. Let's start out with a glaring TPE breakdown for each team.

    2 Ottawa Lynx (60 - 10 - 2) 3122 TPE (3 players at 200 TPE)
    1  Yukon Rush (64 - 7 - 1) 2766 TPE ( 7 players at 200 TPE)
    3 Minnesota Storm (54 - 12 - 6)  2528 TPE (8 players at 200 TPE)
    6 Philadelphia Reapers (36 - 34 - 2) 2326 TPE
    4 Houston Bulls (38 - 28 - 6) 2064 TPE (3 players at 200 TPE)
    5 Halifax 21st (36 - 30 - 6) 1876 TPE (2 Players at 200 TPE)
    9 Mexico City Kings (27 - 36 - 9) 1414 TPE (1 Player at 200 TPE)
    10 San Diego Marlins (29 - 40 - 3) 1260 TPE
    8 Miami Marauders (32 - 39 - 1) 902 TPE
    11 Saskatoon Wild (15 - 54 - 3) 731 TPE
    7 Las Vegas Aces (32 - 36 - 4) 357 TPE
    12 Mississauga Hounds (9 - 57 - 6) 285 TPE

Looking at that list, which is in order from TPE, the first number is where they finished overall in the VHLM in season 80. The top 5 teams have over 2000 TPE as a team and 21 players at 200 with more banked. These players for the most part are recreated from existing members, some who have Jobs, or steady TPE. nothing wrong with that as long as they follow the same rule of a certain amount of capped as everyone else. We want to be fair.

Aside from Mexico, any team with at least 1 player with 200 TPE finished above .500 so then I see this as a new player and think in the draft okay...I don't want to play for anyone under this threshold. If the plan is to win, get cups, and get stats. Every other team finished well under. The top 4 teams based on TPE (Ottawa, Yukon, Minnesota, Philadelphia) have more TPE combined then the bottom 7 teams in the league (Halifax, Mexico, San Diego, Miami, Saskatoon, Las Vegas, Mississauga)

Now I know to some there might be a “well the player chooses who they sign with” or other comments along those lines and that's true and fair. My point is as a new member who is coming into this fresh, what incentive is there for me to join the other 7 teams? If Gm’s stack their rosters with a locker room full of players who know what they are doing it is kind of pointless. There should be 1 or two re-created per team required in my opinion, that way when a new player signs with a team they have someone they can ask questions to who can help them. Kind of like bringing a Veteran in on a young team in the NHL

Maybe a TPE cap per team could also help with Parity and management. Kind of like a Salary cap but a TPE cap. If this line upset you, then you need to rethink your motivations. I keep being told the VHLM is about Retention and helping members, yet I had to actively reach out to people not on my team or league to help me out because my Locker Room is dead. I learned most of what I had to by reading and messing about because it was hard to connect and actually reach anyone which is a problem.
Had I not met @fishy, @thadthrasher, @Peace, @Brewins15, @Moon_50, @Alex_J32 I would not be here right now. I would have left. These 6 have been amazing and have helped me understand the nuance and need to know stuff about the league and the VHL. something that should have been done the second I joined.

Next issue I noticed, for Las Vegas for example who has 3 players. 3, why would anyone want to join Las Vegas? So does Mississauga. What as a new player makes me think I should join them? Nothing. (i'm not blaming the GMS) some teams have No Goalies, no Defenders. 1 defender while other teams have 6 or 7.  Some teams have 2 goalies over 100 TPE who could go to other teams and be a starter, get minutes, maybe be motivated to stick around.

I think the Rosters need to be looked at and evened out this is where the TPE Cap could come in handy or even a Recreate cap. If the idea is about retention and teaching then GM’s and AGM’s need to be available to answer the questions their players may have. I've seen a few locker rooms where players are not encouraged to interact or Gms are MIA in the locker rooms.

I want to have fun, I want to be able to talk to my Teammates and feel like i'm on a team. But when i'm on a team with 1 Defense, and 1 goalie who is our top earner, where no one talks...that's not going to encourage me or any new member to stick around.
I didn't make this article to Attack anyone, I made it to start a dialogue, I want the VHL in every aspect to succeed. I love this site and some of the members. I have had a blast on every aspect that ISN'T hockey related. I think a few changes to make the league more about learning, more Parity, I think a lot of new players would stick around.

    not claiming just posting here

The vhl is said to be a community safe for all people no matter gender, sexuality, race religion, etc. I however do not see this as being true. I'm here to focus on the one that has affected me most. Gender. It is no secret that the vhl is a majority cis male community. There is little diversity within that range. As a female in the vhl, I’ve slowly started to realize how big of an issue the vhl has with gender. After talking to some of the other few women in the vhl I have realized this is not something that is just affected me.

The vhl has a serious issue when it comes to female members being sexualized, objectified, and disrespected by other members of the community. I know multiple cases in the last weeks of this happening and although the action was taken in some cases in other cases it was not taken at all. Just because we are the opposite sex doesn’t mean we want sexual comments to be thrown at us from every which direction. It is not and will not ever be okay. Learn boundaries especially when people tell you to stop. If they say stop just stop it is not that hard to do. If you can’t handle that then you really shouldn't be online because that’s just messed up.

I'm sick and tired of seeing other women and myself being uncomfortable and little to nothing being done about it. A verbal warning will not do anything. Things like this should not be tolerated at all no matter how small it may seem to you, you are not the one who has to deal with it mentally. I will gladly talk to the commishs and other runners of the league to help this be changed. I want to stay in the vhl. I love it here but you push members away when they feel uncomfortable because of their gender. There all small actions so many members in this community can take to make it a better place for all.

I am not mad but rather disappointed and frustrated with this league with how they continue to handle these things. In a world where there is a push for consent and speaking out there isn't that here. People don't say anything because they know stuff wont be done about it or wont be handled in an appropriate manner. It needs to change. I hope this article can start the conversation of change on this matter. Please reach out to me if you have questions or what to know how to you yourself can make a difference. Thank you for reading.

This feels like a terrible way to solve a non-issue - or worse, an issue that existed prior to the thing getting removed. Feels like a giant leap backwards for modernization in sim leagues.

Forcing people to do a thing that nobody cared to do before isn't going to go well. This removes user agency, and doesn't enhance it. You took away an accessible, practical solution and have replaced it with...nothing.

There are already plenty of reasons to come to the forum and stay here - there doesn't need to be a reason tucked into every aspect of the league.

To some things I've seen in this thread - one big thread for games would help massively. I'm not clicking into a thread for a single game, period. Though, that doesn't solve this leap backwards.

“What the f--k kinda ripoff name is that?”

With those words between Joe Kelly and his agent, his fate was sealed. Since Rob Manfred had banned Kelly from Major League Baseball for life for his steadfast refusal to fellate Manfred, as well as being the most vocal antagonist of the scumbag organization known as the Houston Astros, Joe had been looking for new ways to flex his athletic prowess and still make enough money to impress the honey’s. Originally having considered the SBA, Kelly quickly tossed aside that option as he didn’t feel like playing in a league with only two real teams. He then considered football in the EFL, but his agent advised against this due to “speed being king”, and Kelly not being an olympic sprinter.

Thus, Kelly began to set his sights on the VHL - more specifically, the VHLM. Despite not even knowing how to skate, Joe was intrigued by the ability to hit anyone he disagreed with, as well as the freedom to carry a dangerous weapon on him at all times.

In order to prepare for this major shift in profession, Joe knew he had to bring in the best. Wanting to make a big impression on any potential VHL suitors, he shelled out for the best tandem skaters alive to train him how to maneuver on the ice - Chazz Michael Michaels and Jimmy MacElroy. With their help, Kelly was quickly able to pick up the ability to skate efficiently and effortlessly, even eventually lending his ability to improving their own Iron Lotus.

Chazz Michael Michaels and Jimmy MacElroy, responsible for Kelly's skating prowess.

For play on the ice, however, Joe needed to dig deeper. His years of focusing on another sport meant he was behind in even the most basic of formations and play - and thus, it was Joe’s idea to reach out to someone who was a master at teaching kids to win in Pee-Wee - Gordon Bombay. With Bombay’s help, Kelly was able to adapt to puck handling and shooting at a rate Bombay had never seen out of a child. He even learned something called a “knuckle puck” that is sure to come in handy as he climbs through the VHLM ranks.

Coach Bombay, responsible for teaching Kelly how to handle a puck and score.

With the training received from Michaels, MacElroy, and Bombay, Joe Kelly appears primed to break into the VHLM - and, eventually, and VHL - with some noise. Playing time so far has been minimal, but Kelly knows that will come with time, when it is earned - which is all Kelly desired. To earn his place.
