Now while I've come back from my amazing (seriously would of rather have went to somewhere fun like 🌯MEXICO CITY 🌯 rather than Whitehorse) VHL vacation, I decided that it's time to really pick up a quarantine hobby that is both fun and is actually a good skill to have overall. And that skill I decided to pick up was baking!

There's something so calming and relaxing about the baking process compared to regular cooking, as there is a lot more waiting while things are in the oven for example where you can focus on other parts of the baking process...or take a quick 10 minute break to get a CHEL match in 👀

Now with my new hobby having lots of different creations and ideas of what can be made, I figured what is better than mixing my two favourite things; the Toronto Social Club and Baked Goods!

Thus, please find my fellow Legion members as delicious treats!

    Képtalálatok a következőre: eszterházy torta

Now I haven't had the chance to make this amazing dish as of yet (mostly because it's very complicated and hard to perfectly do it) but I can't think of anyone better than Mr. Scotty Kaberle himself to represent this cake. When I first arrived in Budapest, I wanted to have something sweet and authentic. This cake is by far my favourite dessert on the planet and blows me away everytime I have it. It reminds me a lot of how Scotty was the first person I really connected with in the VHL and I'll always have a soft spot for the second coming of Komisarek.

    @BOOM Black Forest Cake

Képtalálatok a következőre: black forest cake

Black Forest Cake has a special place in my heart like no other, so I think that's perfect for BOOM-city himself since he's still my valentine 😍 Black Forest Cake was my go-to for every single birthday cake I had as a child, and although I could always go without the cherries on top and I was never a big fan of most cakes, I would always demolish this year after year. Sweet, but not sweet enough to make you sick and tired of eating it and you'd always want more. Nothing better than the best nostalgic cake to me personally for one of the best new member of the Social Club.

    @Peace Cheesecake

    http://justdelhiing.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Toffee-chocolate-cheesecake.jpg

I mean, I couldn't pick a better dessert for the cheesiest person I've met thus far. The amount of dad-jokes and puns in the locker-room I believe might have played a part in the self-destruction of my laptop. With that being said, a cheesecake is a classic and original, and not many people hate this dessert as it's that well liked. Peace is a wonderful GM and he made such a big turn around for the Legion team where we have such a close knit amazing group, and I could tell after our intense and long draft interview that Toronto would be a perfect fit for me, and I'm glad to have been drafted here immensely.

    @Smarch Ice Cream Cake

Képtalálatok a következőre: ice cream cake

Smarch is the best pick-up in Toronto by far, and everyone knows my love for BOOM so that says a lot. But I assume everyone else in the Social Club would say the same as this is the sweetest and chillest guy in the locker-room. Every day to wake up to his messages about the upcoming games and to enjoy the day or the weekend is what I look forward to whenever I see a notification in the locker-room early on in the day. An underrated cake due to it's bit obscurity (since most people go for easier and regular cakes), but it's easily one of the best cakes possible to have due to it's uniqueness. I think that description suits Smarch absolutely fine as people didn't really notice him in the deal that sent him to Toronto, but I assume Smarch will prove people wrong soon enough as he's an amazing personality and player for us.

    @ROOKIE745 Macaron

    Képtalálatok a következőre: macorron

Rookie will go down in history for Toronto, and he's an absolute class act who loves this team through and through and everyone in the locker-room would tell you that it's heartbreaking that we don't have a large chance to get him a cup here. Despite all the trades that really downgraded our chance to make a playoff push, he wanted to stick with the team all the way through to the end. What is a better way to show off a class act like himself than one of the fanciest desserts around like a macaron. We love you @ROOKIE745❤️

    @Rayzor_7Gingersnap Cookies

    Képtalálatok a következőre: gingersnap cookie

Rayz is a beast and a half, and he's a firecracker at that. He will tell you how it is and russle some feathers, but he also has a sweet side to him that shows because he's a core member of our social club. Drafted alongside him in the last VHL Draft, we came right into Toronto together and I believe we both helped shape the Legion into what it is now. I think a gingersnap is a perfect representation of him as he has that kick of cinnamon but overall deep inside he's a fluffy sugary boy, even if he hides that side of him 😉

    @DoktorFunk Chocolate Cupcake

    http://assets.kraftfoods.com/recipe_images/opendeploy/162746_640x428.jpg

Now this may be a chocolate cupcake, but don't mistake that this Jolly Green Giant cupcake wouldn't be as green as possible! Entering into the locker-room, several of us were rookies coming up prepping for our first VHL season, and Jolly was one of these people. Friendly and funny, the team wouldn't be the same if he wasn't there from the very beginning which perfectly suits him being a cupcake as nobody hates a cupcake.

I'm very sorry to everyone I've missed, but my brain doesn't hold enough information to think up more baked goods to associate people with, but everyone on the Toronto Legion team plays an integral part in making our team so close together.

I hope you enjoyed my awful attempt at matching people with baked goods using somewhat suspect descriptions!

(1007 words, claiming for weeks ending in 2/21 and 2/28)

Very unique and funny way to describe people, i would really enjoy if this became a big hit and we would be assigned dessert names instead of usernames. 9/10

  2. Ever since the start of my career my player hasn't been producing many points, but this last week my player started going crazy, i got point after point every sim and even earned my first top 3 placement were i actually got the first star.  I even got 5 points in 1 sim which i am really proud of.  The reason to this new found success could be many reasons which still are unclear to me.

Maybe it was because i have consistently been getting maxed capped tpe per week, luck or maybe the taco gods blessed me.  But i think that this is because my semi-hard work is the biggest reason to this and i hope that my success will continue so i can achieve Gustislav Nasherov's career goals which are: winning any silverware, have 250+ tpe at the start of the summer and be an important and useful part of a team where i can help them reach their goals so they can help me reach mine.

But in the meanwhile of me trying to reach my goals i will perform the best i can in the Mexico city kings, i am really enjoying being apart of them and if i start a new player when Gustislav nasherov retires i will make sure to get thats players first contract to the Mexico city kings.

    Mexico City Kings Press Conference

    Trade deadline edition!

    1. We are now just 2 points out of 2nd overall, do you think we can make a late challenge for 1st?

    2. We had a couple trades go through recently, do you think they are what we need to make a cup run?

    3. Of the 4 teams at the bottom of the VHLM, who is most likely to make a late push into the playoffs?

    4. What would be your ultimate cheat meal?

    5. What made you choose the username you currently use?

    6. How often do you exercise or try to stay active during the week?

    1. We are now just 2 points out of 2nd overall, do you think we can make a late challenge for 1st?

I don't think we will place 2nd. I know that we will finish 2nd or higher.

    2. We had a couple trades go through recently, do you think they are what we need to make a cup run?

My brain is pretty microscopic when it comes to players around the league, but if Hylands thinks it's good then i trust him.

    3. Of the 4 teams at the bottom of the VHLM, who is most likely to make a late push into the playoffs?

I don't think it will happen but most likely would be Halifax 21st IMO.

    4. What would be your ultimate cheat meal?

Fried cheese sticks, pizza with a lot of cheese burgers on and the biggest cup i could find filled with coke.

    5. What made you choose the username you currently use?

Flip my first name around and take the first 3 letters.

    6. How often do you exercise or try to stay active during the week?

I've got 2 Handball lessons a week + 2 p.e passes per week which are pretty intense.

  4. One day in February I was bored and decided to go browse through the forum and saw a special post: VHL CHESS TOURNEY.  I figured that I could join just because I had nothing else to do, so I did and got invited to the discord server by @Ricer13 and joined.

After playing 4-5 group games and winning them all, I was surprised because I thought I was a lot rustier at chess so I wondered how far I could reach with my very little experience of a 4th-grade chess lesson, after reading some of the chats that happened there I saw that @hedgehog337 was some serious competition and decided to challenge him, I GOT REKT.  Because I had nothing else to do I decided to borrow a chess book from the library where I live and started reading it.  I learned some basic strategies and some moves that I thought were weird for example the ''En passant'' where if a pawn moves 2 squares and ends up next to another pawn the pawn that didn't move could capture the other pawn diagonally even while the pawn that moved was right beside it, (I know my explaining sucks lol).

So after some reading and some games against random people I went on to gather a winning streak in my group games, I completed the group undefeated but I still have one goal left in this tournament which is to beat @hedgehog337 in the semis, the playoffs start on Monday so I'm very excited to see how that plays out, to prepare for that game I have analyzed his game a lot and found what he tends to do in certain situations.

This week is all about player vacations and oh boy do I have a doozy for you. Most of you will probably not know that I am a roller coaster enthusiast. I would love to go on every roller coaster I can. With the season I could get to some incredible parks for a mini vacation or day-cation as most people call them. I will be splitting the vacations from each conference since there are a lot of North American parks I would love to go to and in Europe too. I will go team by team and showcase parks that would be great vacation destinations. By the end of this I believe you would have a copious amount of vacation destinations to plan out an epic vacation.

    North America:

I’m going to cheat and bunch together the Canadian teams into one post since there aren't as many parks in Canada versus the United States. I’m also going to include Seattle here too. There are three main parks that I would love to go to, but to not bore you I will only go over one and that is Canada’s Wonderland.

    Canada’s Wonderland

    Coaster Count: 17

    Main Attractions:

    Leviathan

    E7T9FS6S8alKKh9mvpCJba4dwszxFFg7x28wUYGzyLE15aJBkXyaM5VrvemF7aneflmr_mmBEY-2c9EHkhKqEgYZB3PGuE_V1qtmjCoyGLB7m3NbeFq3exB7LNyJCXVAvu64e6Re

Canada’s Wonderland is a part of the Cedar Fair chain and has been heavily invested in the past few years with mega additions of Leviathan (the first B&M Giga coaster) and Yukon Striker (B&M Dive Machine). This would be a great vacation spot since it is in Vaughan, Ontario which is near the Toronto area. This would be a must visit park for me and a great vacation spot in the north of the border.

Chicago is an interesting vacation destination. Chicago is already an incredible city where you could just explore the city, but there is a theme park that I’m itching to get to and that is Six Flags Great America.

    Six Flags Great America

Six Flags Great America is a very unique park since it has a lot of coaster models not present at other parks in the Six Flags chain. Six Flags saw a lot of potential for the Chicago area so they invested in top tier attractions to bring guests in, including me. This has top of the line attractions with new coasters coming every few years. The past few years brought in X-Flight (the chains only B&M Wing Coaster), Goliath (a ground up RMC coaster) and Maxx Force (a S&S air launch coaster). Maxx Force is one of my bucket list coasters actually. Maybe after a practice before or after a Chicago game I can go and sneak a few rides.

The nation’s capital is a perfect vacation spot with some great museums, parks and restaurants. Two parks are nearby DC and these include Six Flags America and Kings Dominion. Six Flags America is the chain's neglected park so I won’t go too in depth compared to Kings Dominion.

You know a park is bad when a Premier Spaghetti bowl, Joker’s Jinx, is one of your main attractions. The park is not well received but still has some great coasters to warrant a vacation in DC. Superman: Ride of Steel (Intamin Hyper Coaster) is a unique ride in the park. This would be a great quick trip before heading to the main event of DC, Kings Dominion.

Oh man this is the ideal vacation destination for a roller coaster enthusiast like myself. Kings Dominion has an insane lineup of coasters. This includes one of the most intense coasters in the world Intimidator 305 (Intamin Giga Coaster) and the newly converted Twisted Timbers (RMC Conversion). I’ve heard that because I305 is so intense that it almost never has a line. This is 1000% one of my bucket list coasters and parks to get to. (RIP Volcano)

I could write a whole page on LA amusement parks since there are so many… and I will. LA is the ideal vacation spot for more than a week. Of course it would be very expensive, but the amount of incredible amusement parks is insane. You have Disneyland, Universal Studios Hollywood, Six Flags Magic Mountain and Knott’s Berry Farm. Buckle up because this is going to be a long one.

    Disneyland / Disney California Adventure

    Coaster Count: 4 (DL) / 2 (DCA)

    Main Attractions:

What can I say about Disney. What they lack in coasters they make up for in immersive theming. There is no park that does it better than a Disney park. This is a great place to go with a family since there are so many rides and activities for kids. I meshed DL and DCA together since they are still Disney but under two different gates. Incredicoaster (Intamin Launch) was recently renovated to include the Incredibles to the theme and is the main staple of the park. Matterhorn Bobsleds (Arrow Sit Down) is actually the first steel tube coasters to be made. This is a famous coaster and a bucket list ride just for history alone.

Universal Studios Hollywood is not as coaster heavy on the list of vacation spots, but they do have some amazing rides to make up for it. The centerpiece of the park would have to be the studio tour and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Universal paid a pretty penny to WB to get the rights to Harry Potter and ran with it. They made an immersive experience to put you in the Harry Potter world. This is a great vacation spot for all the movie lovers and Harry Potter fans.

Here is the enthusiast dream park. MM has the most coasters in the world and is the star park in the Six Flags chain. It has a very unique X2 (Arrow 4D) which is only one of 3 built in the world. Twisted Colossus (RMC Conversion) was rebuilt after the old Colossus was closed down which you might recognize from the show Step by Step intro. Twisted Colossus is also a dueling coaster but on one track. When you finish your ride on one side you actually switch sides without getting off and complete the other side of the course. Tatsu (B&M Flying) is the longest and most intense flying experience in North America. There are still so many unique and amazing coasters that I didn’t even include in the main attractions! This is a multi day park experience for a vacation, but it is worth it. This is a must visit park for thrill seekers.

Knott’s is another park in the Cedar Fair chain and is one of the more loved parks in the chain. With main additions of Xcelerator (First Intamin Hydraulic Accelerator) and GhostRider (CCI Wooden). GhostRider was built in 1998 but was re-tracked and made smoother to make it a more pleasant experience making it one of the top coasters in the park. The newest coaster to the park, HangTime (Getstlauer Infinity), takes up the spot where the now removed Boomerang once stood. It’s a compact but thrilling ride. This is a great park where you can spend a day and get some great rides and some awesome food too!

Since I’m from New York I know all of the good vacation spots. The only thing is that they aren’t in New York. I’m going to cheat once again and include some parks that are near NY but not in NY. I’m only going to cover Six Flags Great Adventure and Hersheypark.

    Six Flags Great Adventure

    Coaster Count: 12

    Main Attractions:

Great Adventure is my home park. I’ve been going here since I was a kid and I love it. Because it is so close to the NYC / NJ metro area, Six Flags wanted to build up the park to attract guests. It has the best wooden coaster in the world in my opinion with El Toro (Intamin Pre-Fab) and an airtime machine with Nitro (B&M Hyper). Kingda Ka (Intamin Hydraulic Accelerator) is always intimidating when you ride by being the world's tallest coaster and 2nd fastest coaster in the world. While it doesn’t have the biggest lineup of coasters, it does have a few surprise hits that make it a must visit park. It also is a great park to visit with family since they have a few kids areas and family attractions. This is the perfect day trip park since it is only maybe 2 hours away from where I used to live on Long Island. Cross a few bridges, get on the NJ turnpike and get some WaWa (yes that’s a real thing). Leave early in the morning and come back late at night. Try to sneak a trip when you are in NY when you get a chance.

Yeah that’s right, 4 main attractions. If I could I would add the whole park. It is a very different vibe when you go to Hershey. It’s a beautiful park with an exquisite coaster lineup. They have two different hyper coasters with an intense, one of the top coasters in the world Skyrush (Intamin Winged Hyper) and a more airtime based hyper with Candymonium (B&M Hyper). They just expanded their front entrance and they included Candymonium as the cherry on top. They have one of the only inverting accelerator coasters with Storm Runner (Intamin Hydraulic Accelerator). They also have a one of a kind vertical lift coaster in Fahrenheit (Intamin Vertical Lift). That’s not even scratching the surface of this diverse lineup. This is a must do vacation spot, hell even do two days to get the full experience since it has a water park mixed in too (free with admission!).

    Europe

Europe is very difficult to plan out as a coaster enthusiast. Europe is already beautiful and has so much culture already that going to an amusement park should be an afterthought. Unfortunately I didn’t find parks in all of the places where there is a VHL team. Here are some European parks that you could visit though.

Energylandia - (4 hrs from Warsaw)

    Coaster Count: 15

    Main Attractions:

    Zadra

    -Z2RcfeBsJpCHGiP6zgInOrI_llpq-W9BlpxjSQg_zT14ghvbWSbtg21KoZyQHOrFbODrIddufRP2WE4cxqnJeh-m0QbXy7imsvZcFT5FK4cPYDnaaUWKqWqv5Sr7BQ8q2JCR7d2

    Hyperion

    8irhKQ-RHoSU2Q-rZv_zLvN9mEv-CHrbMyKwvqWXsgdIVFFTt5ddChmbtSU2eg86wLCnw9Ce3t2O0cWeGSJV03cipa1Is2eH3ATzABLkc5_ojgPsiaRgVYRsqd7NS8ZYDiVBmzPG

This one is a stretch but I couldn’t leave it out. Energylandia is the fastest growing amusement park in the world. They are getting multiple new coasters in a few years. They have gotten a new coaster every year since they opened. This is a destination park that needs multiple days just to get to everything. Zadria (RMC Groundup) is one of the top coasters in the world and was actually built a year early. They finished construction and testing so fast that they actually pushed up the opening from 2020 to 2019. Also at the park is the Hyperion (Intamin Winged Hyper) which was voted by the guests at the park. The vote was between Intamin and Vekoma. There is no stopping for expansion it seems as they are building new coasters for the 2021 season and the 2022 season. This is a bucket list park for anyone who wants a good mix of thrills and family coasters.

    Linnanmäki

    Coaster Count: 8

    Main Attractions:

    Kirnu

    xf_BbE1Id8Co91epVdMnA7vbmTHH_Uo6pzgs6c0l1l5T6wAPzObe9LZqn7K5JkL5qkPCQsz8A1fj_K76ngsQ0HXa9H6I8CLDAKSm3xMmFbKxV6oIwlbMC_xreuowfL30u3Uw2gS6

    Taiga

    XfMN4Lxikm6yCdFBTgPZllC_dmaLsZ1SYm3hbjWa62W5QyGm-7z2PPguCfa9jZr3QvxHkS4bJvrjoVHzLeXyJgDq4rKHvbW5Xmauy_JZxPuSXQic6Ed5lt522yVwQU9MhWgTc1zC

I’ll be honest, I have no idea what Linnanmäki is, but they have some top tier attractions over there. Located in Helsinki, Linnanmäki has a great mix of thrills and family attractions. They have recently added Taiga (Intamin LSM Accelerator) which has 4 inversions with a 170ft top hat which is crazy for a small park! They also have a unique ride with Kirnu (Intamin Zacspin). Zacspins are not well known for their comfort, but it seems it fits perfectly with Linnanmäki. This seems like a great place to spend a day for a vacation or even after a practice before or after a game against the Helsinki Titans.

Alton Towers (3 hrs from London)

    Coaster Count: 10

    Main Attractions:

    Smiler

    5DC-aVFvyqKxT6cWAcyGZntTFP9ep-UEoByH5aPax4H-e_b48xBagzD0bBCPt9BOaKnekm7sw1yRfXuSTprPhl27uVCzGFoND8tfPasr4RP6pHq3ur6zgA3nq1BZgpR-KWxXw1lH

    Nemesis

    Wicker Man

    eGILuIgYoSVzvSZUKohjwDFf4p_M9Ora4uO4Gsu4oa9hmKe12aNOKXmO9GwOJT3nFJR6VVgslItIIPL6RtbvhC-MvcuBZt7fdVE7RXBjMyTwuJEqBKEhvC8AGDqtz8FjSKYUUqB2

The first of the two major parks near London is Alton Towers. This park is known for naming their new coaster projects secret weapons. Alton Towers also has a high restriction in that they can’t build over tree height. That didn’t stop them from building world class coasters and world first rides to make a diverse and iconic lineup. Smiler (Gerstlauer Infinity) is a record breaker for the most inversions on a roller coaster with 14! This is all compact into a small footprint that weaves in itself to give a crazy experience. Nemesis (B&M Invert) is also known for its terrain hugging layout. Wicker Man (GCI Wooden) is their newest coaster. They have something for everyone. This is a perfect place to spend all day and get a hotel nearby to get a full day's worth.

Thorpe Park (44 mins from London)

    Coaster Count: 7

    Main Attractions:

    Saw - The Ride

    S4h0y31IAlRWniPoYgWQ_6UF1xKnLkrKLVHYrtwQTmt4iNkBDAJWrOtvW-u_lrhVqWztVwcEAWEMEPe8UPmthafSSEVRO-vMiV_Ws2hoTL_65vqWVfYgkM6vLnIZRkcJW3bvcpJZ

    Swarm

    Nemesis Inferno

We finally come to Thorpe Park which is an hour away from London. This makes it easy to spend all day and still get back to London before the night is over. They have a bunch of horror themed attractions which is a breath of fresh air. Some of their more notable rides include Saw - The Ride (Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter) and The Swarm (B&M Wing). Nemesis Inferno (B&M Invert), not to be confused with Alton Towers Nemesis, is one of their main attractions in the park too. Since most of the rides are themed to horror franchises I wouldn’t suggest a full family trip. This is still a great day-cation destination if you are staying in London.

    Conclusion

Holy moly I finally finished this beast of a media spot. Overall, the VHL is a grind so far. I wanted to give people the options of some of my favorite vacation spots as a coaster enthusiast so they can relax. You don’t even have to be a coaster enthusiast to enjoy some of these parks as they are all special in their own way. I would love to go to every park on this list, but if I had to choose 3 to go to at the end of the season and when all parks are open I would choose: Six Flags Magic Mountain, Energylandia and Alton Towers. It’s always best when you can go to a park with friends or family, but sometimes you have to go by yourself. I’ve done that many times and it doesn’t feel weird at all. I hope you consider some of these vacation spots when you are planning your vacation at the end of the season. Let me know what parks you are considering!

    "Well...what to do now?"

Despite being chosen by Toronto in the recent VHL Draft and being told to prep for the upcoming season, because he's coming straight up to the VHL, Kristof Welch was still technically in Whitehorse, Yukon after finishing his first and only VHLM season. After the adrenaline of entering into the playoffs, the disappointment of being swept, and the anxiety of the draft, the off-season was quite a journey and Welch was in need of a well needed rest before packing up his things to get to Toronto.

However, while many of the other VHL'ers are chilling on nice sunny beaches in places like Miami or Hawaii, Welch will have to be creative in what some could say is... not someone's first choice for a vacation destination.

Thus, please welcome to my guide of what to do in Whitehorse, Yukon if you ever end up going there for a vacation (or as we call it, why the hell did you choose here to come for vacation)!

First Activity: Camping and Fishing at Fox Lake!

Image result for fox lake whitehorse

Now while the Yukon Territory might be known for it's blistering cold, during the summer it can actually get quite the opposite! While sitting at around an average of +20 Celsius, it's really the humidity that will get you as you're quite literally surrounded by mountains all around you. So one of the best things to do in this case is to get a lovely case of *insert your favourite beer here* to put into an ice cold cooler, grab yourself a tent and fishing gear, and head to my favourite camping ground at Fox Lake! Just outside of the city center with about a 45 minute to about an hour car drive, if you're staying anywhere near the main city this beautiful lake is super close and if planned properly, you can get there before anyone else early in the morning! There is plenty of camping spots, so you can even meet the locals (would not recommend) while you catch some fresh lake fishies and crack open a cold one!

    Second Activity: Kayaking and Canoeing!

Image result for whitehorse yukon kayaking

Rather be on the water rather than just looking at it? Well, another main activity that you can do is grab yourself a kayak or a canoe for either just yourself or with a special someone (please not me)! Nothing is more relaxing and romantic than setting out on the fresh water with the wind blowing against you to keep you cool in the summer heat! You can even take it a step further and bring yourself a fishing pole and fish out on the open water for an even better chance for catching a fish! If you're ever afraid of it being too crowded with people, have no fear as there are plentiful lakes and bodies of water to head out onto so you can have your own solo-adventure!

Third Activity: Hiking the Chilkoot Trail!

Image result for whitehorse yukon chilkoot trail hike

Want to become apart of history and hike the trail the gold miners took back in the Gold Rush days? Then the famous Chilkoot Trail is without a doubt the one thing you must do! However, be prepared for quite the journey as it can take up to 5 days to make the historic hike that branches roughly 53 kilometres, so please make sure to not take this lightly. It is also a common thing to do among the locals as a right of passage for the ones who like the outdoors, so there is no worries of being stranded alone and having to 127 Hours yourself! Pack yourself a couple Egg McMuffins, a few litres of water, and some hiking gear and enjoy the beautiful journey!

Final Activity: Get The Hell Out of There!

    image.jpeg.a740f830c0737418abed647ffc92d54e.jpeg

No seriously, why would you ever want to go on a Summer vacation to Whitehorse, Yukon you absolute maniac. Go somewhere normal like Mexico or the Bahamas and get some lovely stories of chilling on the beach rather than being assaulted by a grizzly bear up North!

I hope you enjoyed this guide to both my hometown and the wonderful city of Whitehorse, Yukon (home to the Yukon Rush, #feeltherush), and I would fully recommend to do any of the activities above (preferably the last one) as well as all the other activities (really not much else to do) in the lovely Great White North!

You have made me love the theme week even more by writing this unique and humoristic media spot.  Also looks like a real ad to go visit Whitehorse. Plus the pictures added depth to the meia spot which i enjoyed. 10/10

  7. By this only being my 3rd week in the league I think that I should get a well-deserved vacation to a sunny place and I'm not thinking of the beach of Miami or Spain, I'm thinking of Mexico! A trip with my sombrero hat and my fish slides, you may be wondering how fish slides would look like, and here is what they look like:

     image.jpeg.7a1acd889938b3d6304812b4320765f4.jpeg

    Pretty drippy right?

     Activity number uno

The first logical thing I would do is, of course, feasting on some burritos and Tacos, I like my tacos in soft bread and with guacamole spread on it, then I put my cucumber and corn on it, my meat then some spicy sauce, jalapeno, lettuce, crushed chips (slightly salted) and finish it off with some more jalapeno.  Of course I wouldn't eat a perfectly good taco without my sombrero hat and a glass of Capri sun, no margarita because that's illegal for my age.  While doing this I hope that  Mexico city will continue to deliver its heat while my ears will be steaming because I can't handle hot food, it would be pretty hot so I would probably drink my capri sun pretty fast and have nothing left to drink, know what I do then? I get my drip from my fish slippers ofc and they generate so much drip that they produce water for me to drink.

    image.jpeg.f82a9a780b0970556cc35407c8d47ab4.jpeg

    Activity number dos

The second thing I would like to do is to learn some salsa moves, salsa moves are necessary and if I master them I will get 99 skating.  So to learn this I would go to any Mexican bar and find some random girl and be like

“Hola Mexican gurl, u teach me salsa and I give you salsa."

“of course Swedish boi, but I only accept super spicy salsa."

So she teaches me salsa and I get 99 skatings and I can also impress all my friends with my salsa skills.  Then she asks me for super spicy salsa so I give her the spiciest salsa I own and she says

"oh yasssssss, very spicy salsa thank you"

    image.jpeg.e3bd2f15b61a548fe2f9b0ec660b52a4.jpeg

    Mission number tres

The last thing I need to do is actually get home from Mexico.  Now I've two options, plane or boat.  Personally, I would take the plane, but not just any plane, I would, of course, have a plane with one of those flags at the back of it.  Now you are probably wondering what the flag would say, and of course, it would say "Fish slides are the drippiest slides", and a picture of them.  Even tho it's great in Mexico it would be very nice to be home for the Beijer hockey games, which is a nations cup where Sweden participates in, this year I want to watch it even more badly because several of the players from Rögle (the team I support) is in the team. I would also like to watch some of the actual season because it is coming to its end and the playoffs are soon here.

    VHL Job Applications/Interviews: A Guide

Before I begin, this isn’t the rule. What I mean is that not everyone who has the ability to hire someone for a position will be looking for the same things I do, but I really think this may help some people. This article contains some of the things that I look for and some things I have done to get the positions I have held.

    What Happens?

Typically, when a position opens up for something, whether that be a GM or AGM spot, a job as a member of the Recruitment team, or even VSN, there is a bit of a process that unfolds.

First, the person/people who have the authority to hire someone will make the vacancy known. Sometimes this isn’t a surprise, and other times it’s a complete shock. Nonetheless, they will post an announcement in the forum. That announcement is usually passed around the VHL discord and various locker rooms by GM/AGMs. At this point, the hiring person may receive messages from others around the VHL. These messages vary from “avoid this person because….” to “You’d be making a mistake by NOT hiring this person.”

Within the announcement, there may be a job description or a list of responsibilities, and then something along the lines of “If you’d like to apply, do…” Now, since I’ve had to hire two AGMs in my short tenure as a GM, I can only really speak about what happens next concerning what I do.

As people respond to the post and do what I requested, I make a list of everyone who is interested in the position. Then, as they respond to my questions, I copy and paste them below that list. I don’t read them at first, just copy and paste. Once my day has ended and is winding down, I’ll sit down and read through each response. The first thing I do is highlight the name with green or red. This is simply my “first impression” response. If I’m impressed by an aspect of the response or the whole thing, the name is highlighted in green. If the answer doesn’t stick out to me, it’s highlighted red.

Once I’ve gone through the entire list and made my highlights, I will look at who is left in green. From there, I will make notes next to their name. These notes are things that I know about them, what I’ve seen about them around the league, and what I have heard from others. After making my notes, I’ll re-read the responses and add some critical things into my notes. If I’m left not knowing someone, I’ll reach out to either someone they mention in their response or to a few people I trust and ask for their thoughts and opinions.

Finally, I narrow my list down to 2-4 people. I re-read my notes and their responses, look at what I need in a person for that position and then make my decision from there.

    Some Key Hints

So, you’ve seen a job posted that you want to have and you want to apply. Hopefully, these hints will help you out.

    • The most important thing is to make sure that you are active around the league. Participating in the forum, talking with people in the discord, connecting with people. Networking is crucial not only in our league but also in real life.

    • Make sure that you have a good reputation! If you’ve burned bridges in the past or have had some moments where you’ve overreacted, be honest about that. Go to the person/people you offended and offer an apology. That will go a long way.

    • Do exactly what is asked for on the post. If someone says, “To apply, please send me a message on Discord/Forum,” make sure you do exactly that. Now, I’m not a stickler on this, but some might.

    • If they ask you questions, answer them carefully and thoughtfully. When you are interviewing for a job in the VHL and/or real-life, you wouldn’t walk into the interview and give one-word answers to their questions. Give them some detail, address the question, and make it interesting.

    • Make yourself stand out! If you’re applying for a VSN job, make sure your spelling and punctuation are top-notch. For WJC, I applied with a video to make myself stand out. @Juice, when he applied to be my AGM the first time, he sent me a humorous resume that had me dying. This doesn’t mean you’ll get the job, but it’ll certainly help you stick out.

    • Include keywords. For most jobs, there is a job description and some notes. Most of the time, they want you to include a resume (obviously, this isn’t necessary for the VHL). What you SHOULD do is revamp your resume so that it aligns with what that company wants. If the company says, “the ideal candidate will love the environment,” you better include your passion for environmental care and how much you love it. In the VHL, if a job posting says, “I’m looking for someone who can bring in fresh ideas,” make sure you answer their questions and include some ideas, or at least say you are willing to work together to come up with some fresh ideas. The job postings have keywords and phrases for a reason; use that to your advantage!

    • Network! This goes along with being active and having a good reputation. Get into locker rooms, talk with people, help others out. The more that your name appears in the league for good things, the better chance you have at being seen and recommended for a job. Keep in mind that leadership talks with one another quite frequently. If someone has a problem with you and they give a bad report, but then six others say “they’re a great person to have…” the hiring person will notice that.

    • Be gracious. I’m not calling out anyone here, so please don’t read this and think that. If you aren’t selected for a position, it’s okay to be upset about that, especially if it’s a position that you really wanted. But if you respond negatively to the person who you were just trying to get hired by, they’ll let other leadership know. If you apply for a job in real life and don’t get it, but then you go and criticize the company, they’ll likely never hire you. If you are gracious, people will see that and value it.

    • Be persistent. I joined the league in October of 2020. With minimal experience and knowledge, I applied to almost everything I could. I applied to be a GM for WJC, didn’t get it. I applied to be the AGM for @DMaximus I didn’t get it. I applied to be a WJC Commissioner, didn’t get it. But I didn’t let that get me down. I kept applying, kept trying, and kept putting my best foot forward. I applied to be a WJC GM, but this time with my own little twist. And, wouldn’t you know it, I got the job! Almost right after this I applied to be a GM, and sure enough, I got the job. Had I gotten frustrated and given up after the first denial, I’d never be where I am at now.

As I was writing this media spot, I began to wonder why I was picked as a GM. I’m sure some people applied who were more qualified, had been around longer, and would have made extraordinary GMs. So, I asked. This is what I was told when I asked:

“Honestly, it was your enthusiasm for the league, your willingness to help out, and your outgoing nature. You’ve been trying to help out the league however you could without anyone needing to ask. Really, it was an easy choice to hire you.”

If you still aren’t satisfied after reading this, or you think I’m off my rocker, I have another suggestion for you. Reach out to your GM and ask them what they look for in an AGM and why they hired the person they have. Connect with VSN and ask them why they have hired who they have hired. This is a great way to learn how people think and to understand what people look for.

If you feel I’ve missed something important, or you have something you would like to add, please feel free to add them in the comments!

Hello everyone and welcome to the S76 Edition of the VHL’s chess tournament! @bigAL got things started last season but due to being busy IRL isn’t able to run one this season. So I have decided to take the reins!

The tournament will be played using the Chess.com site and/or app. Rules to follow rules once everyone has signed up. Please comment below if you would like to join and please add what your skill level would be. ELO ratings would be helpful but even just a general idea of how good/bad you are is fine!

Sign up thread will be left open this week and we will look to get the tourney started next weekend!

I'm in, gonna take first place with my only knowledge of chess being how they move and a class i had in 4th grade

  11. I would like to dedicate this article to the nicest person I know in this network, @Juice.  Here are some reason he is the most wonderful AGM in the VHL.

-Need help finding a page? He got you.

-Need help claiming capped tpe ? He got you

-You got literally any non-anwserd question? He got you

-Need detailed explanations because your head went boom? He got you.

@Juiceis the nicest person I've met here and i think he is a great example of what a nice community this is. Another wonderful thing about him is that he is also in the eu which means that I don't have to stay up until 4am just to get an answer.

What im trying to say with this article is that i think @Juiceis really nice to me and helps me whenever i need it thus I'm very grateful for both him and the community

I have said it once before and i will say it again, this is the most welcoming community i have ever seen, and the people here can literally help you with anything, if people keep being this nice to new people i think that this will become very popular within a short timeframe.

I joined back right before the VHLM S76 Dispersal Draft.  When I joined, I was confused about what to do.  A friend had invited me and none of this made sense.  Now I'm having a great time in Miami and understand everything, here's how I got there...

    The First Day
When I first joined it was a Sunday.  The first thing I did, was what I think everyone does first, I created my player.  I named him based on two jokes from my robotics team and saw that VHL had right-wingers as the position with the least people, so I created a right-winger.  Had I looked at the draft class more, I would've definitely been a defenseman, which there was a run on in the draft due to a loss of them.  I then went to play saxophone and snuck my computer up to my room with me, so I could figure out what the heck this VHL thing was.  The first thing I did, look at the Earning TPE section of the rulebook.  I immediately saw that this thing called practice existed, and I had my first 2 TPE.  Then looking through, I didn't want to figure out any of these tasks but this thing called "welfare" looked easy, so I claimed it, applied it, and then went to bed.

    The First Week
Well, the night before was the last night of the week.  When I got on the forum in the morning during class, because I was fully virtual.  An off-season schedule appeared to be posted, so I looked at it, saw the date of the VHLM draft, and decided to get right to work on a graphic.  It was probably my second worst people, but apparently, people thought it was good and that I did some logo and color swapping (breaking news, I just took a transparent image of a hockey player and copied and pasted it).  It was, meh honestly.  But it was a graphic nonetheless and I got what I wanted, that precious 6 capped TPE.  Then, I saw a draft class ranking for the S77 VHL draft, and I was in a decent spot.  This was a further motivator for me to get even better, and get more TPE.  My next graphic was horrific and was a VHL.com graphic.  Let's just say that it looked like a kindergartener made it, I have no clue why I was proud of it at the time.  It was around this time that I got my first interview with a team from none other than my future gm, @Ricer13  I'll go more in-depth with lessons on this and other stuff later.  I got tasks done before the draft and got more interviews done, I was more proud of some than others but that's just the way it goes.

    The Draft
Somehow, some random American 68TPE players called Trevor Wallace ended up going in the late third-rounder.  I was not expecting that whatsoever, but I wasn't gonna complain, in fact, I was ecstatic and was ready to get to work.  Though the commentators for the draft were wondering what the heck @Ricer13 was doing drafting me.  So what?  I just needed to prove them wrong.

    VHLM
Well, once I got drafted, I dm'd my good friend @Viperxhawks19 who invited me to the Miami locker room before @Ricer13 even got a chance to.  A quick note: @Viperxhawks19 had helped me throughout my first few weeks and I'm forever grateful to him, so thanks Viper.  Anyways, the Miami locker room was amazing.  @Ricer13 was always so helpful whenever I had a question on my build and what to upgrade, or just wanted to figure out how our team was looking.  The rest of my Miami teammates have been great to talk to so far and have provided support when need be.  The whole team really has been great to me, so to those newcomers... once you get drafted VHL really gets amazing.  Anyways, in my first game, I was the first star, that had me over the moon.  Though I didn't do much in our second game.  Then came the time where I was moved up to the first line, while my TPE remained low, I had little to no production.  Though as weeks came and went and my TPE went up I made more and more of a contribution and am now feeling very good about my build and my player (aside from those couple of TPE in leadership).

    Lessons Learned
So, what'd I learn from all of this and what would I do differently.  Honestly, I would've had better draft interviews.  As I look back at my Miami draft interview while writing this piece I'm cringing at how short some of the answers are, and I'm honestly wondering what Ricer looks for in these answers because mine were shorter than I honestly think they should've been.  Another note is that having a contact in the league is great, @Viperxhawks19 as mentioned above helped me a lot, I believe he might've actually put in a good word for me when it comes to some teams and that meant a lot because with him I might not even know what a media spot is right now.  Also, DO NOT PUT TPE IN LEADERSHIP.  If you're reading this as a newcomer, I highly suggest that you do not put TPE in there and read a bit about builds before just going willy-nilly and putting TPE wherever you want.  Seriously, if you look back at your player and see TPE in leadership you want to, and you will cringe at yourself.  Finally, I want to address the importance of making sure to get tasks done and setting yourself apart.  There are certain things that a gm will look at in a draft and I think that when it came to drafting me, @Ricer13 thought I could be a hard worker.  I hope it was at least, or else he seriously ought to figure out a better strategy for drafting players, because 68TPE doesn't seem too attractive at all.  Anyways, make sure to get every single task done, average 12 capped TPE a week, and do not join on a Sunday, or if you do, send me a message please, so I can hopefully help explain everything to you and you can get that 12TPE all done in one day!

Claiming for the weeks ending on 2/7/21 and 2/14/21

9/10 informative and even taught me some new things, also liked how you added a little bit of humor into it.  You put the tags of the people nicely! Also really liked how you split what you have written in several parts.
