Of course, that also means that the Trade Deadline is Monday, December 12th at 3pm EST. This also means that anyone wishing to re-create for the S88 draft can do so starting at midnight that same day.

so just out of curiosity - is this midnight sun into mon, or midnight mon into tue

@VHLM Commissioner  Any additional thoughts, comments on the proposals here? Your perspectives are the most important here in relation to the M.

Definitely yes to this - I'd like to add I'm more in favor of the "all inactive goalies are dropped at the end of the season and re picked up after the draft" than letting a team keep the rights - I know there was a span of seasons in the early 20s where whoever had Mattias Backlund was at least in the finals, regardless of roster composition, mostly because I was one of the teams that won a cup with him (S21 Ottawa, although I also had the roster composition - Fyodorov and Keon Henderson) so I know just how uneven inactive goalies can get. Manship had Backlund the season before that, and won the cup with a mediocre Bern team, so definitely reset the inactive goalie teams each season.

  4. Originally, @Ledge was planning to step down from Miami Marauders GM at the end of the season (along with others, which will not be announced until such time as they become relevant) but given recent events he has decided to accelerate that timeline a bit, which is of course completely understandable - we all enjoy this place and commit our varying degrees of time to it, but it is a game, so if things are happening in real life it's understandable to need to prioritize that. So we have decided (for the second time across my tenure in particular) to name an interim GM. Insert obligatory two dog gifs so that the hire doesn't appear in the preview:

dog show GIF by Westminster Kennel Club

Congratulations to @Lemorse7 - the guy is on constantly, and will be able to deal with the flow of new people coming in through the ads, given Miami is one of the teams with available space for players. Full disclosure: we had reached out to a different candidate first, who is more closely affiliated with Miami in particular, but that candidate is in his busiest time of year right now - he is definitely still viable moving forward. Should both Lemorse and that candidate be given positions in the next round of full hires, it is likely some team shuffling will occur a la the Gus-Berocka transition in Mississauga.

  5. This all started with the Mexico City vacancy, but then it sort of spiraled out of control with Frank being poached for Vancouver, and Arce being poached for Vasteras (which itself was only open because Dil got poached for London). We'd been between two guys for Mexico City (although there were more than that in the top tier) so the San Diego vacancy was actually particularly beneficial as it meant we didn't have to decide between these two, and especially because one of them had a close link to one of the teams anyway. So here are two gifs of puppies to take up the space in the preview, then the first two hires:

    Spoiler

congratulations to @badcolethetitan for MEX and @jacobcarson877 for SD

Houston gave us the chance to look a bit more in depth at the rest of that top tier of candidates and ultimately we decided it was time to give another chance to a guy who'd lost the opportunity once before. This proves no single incident is a death sentence, the guy's been a great member both before and after and handled the incident pretty well under the circumstances - there's also another guy we didn't quite go with for whom this same thing applies, and hopefully this motivates said candidate to keep applying!

    Spoiler

    congratulations to @ajwllmsn for HOU

For some of you, there's a noteworthy candidate who was not selected, someone you'd perhaps have expected. This candidate has been spoken to privately.

I'm a high school track and cross-country runner. Not the best, however I'm one of the better distance runners on my team and could probably run at a local D3 college if I wanted to. Right now, I'm in my junior year track season and it's technically my first ever. Freshman year was COVID, sophomore year I suffered a stress fracture and was out for pretty much the entire track season.  My goal at the beginning of the year was to run a sub-5:00 mile and I (barely) accomplished that last week with a time of 4:59.8. Now, I'm just trying to keep pushing that time every meet and also stay in shape for my final cross-country season. My best time there is a 17:23 5k (3.1 mi.) and my goal is to run a sub-17:00 5k.

For those curious, no running is not fun. Here's to doing it six days a week.

I've found that running for speed is not fun, but running for distance (after you're accustomed to it at a certain level) is fun. Ran cross country in high school (we didn't have track) and my best time back then was an 18:57 so definitely nowhere near college level, but usually one of the point scorers for my tiny ass school (the whole team was like 10 guys, so I was usually 3rd or 4th even though on a larger public school team I'd have been only mediocre).

Now though, as the post-high-school portion of my life is now slightly longer than the pre-high-school portion, I've gone the complete opposite direction. I'm slow as fuck now but have done 7 marathons and a 50k. I'd much rather be out there on some long trail course, peaceful as hell, nothing but me and the trees for miles, than trying to shave a few extra seconds off a 5k time. Been out of commission for this since Covid, but 2017-2018 were some huge personal milestones distance-wise. Still slow as fuck though.

(Also, if you're interested, back in 2014 I wrote a poem about where my running journey was at that time, and it's on this forum:)

We are almost 3 months in with kid #2 and for having 2 kids 10 months apart, I would dare to say we are killing the game. Our son is 1 year, and 1 month. Our little 3 month sweetheart found her smile, and is sleeping for us 7-9 hours straight at night which is wonderful. My wife and I switch on and off every night for her to keep ourselves fresh, even though she has given us a nights sleep. I instituted the idea of getting her used to her crib off the bat and it has worked nicely so far. Our one year old is running around the house, blabbing away and loves books already. Overall being a dad has been a chaotic, but amazing experience. It is as they say. The older they get, the more I fall in love with them. You put in the hard work to get to the better steps I would say. Not that the toddler stage is not challenging, but I enjoy it far more than the newborn stage. My son is my best buddy, always with me and wants to be apart of what I am doing.

Work wise, we are busy as hell despite me finding Discord time to unwind when I can. We are rolling out two-factor authentication, implementing a new e-mail routing security system, getting a completely EDR solution, getting 2k+ new Chromebooks ready for next school year the fun just never ends. it is going to be a very busy summer for us.

Personal life, the baby stage has meant not seeing friends as much which has been the one downside since I love getting together with people. I know this is only a temporary "set back" so my wife and I are setting something up for a day/night out in Atlantic City which is one of my favorite places to go. I went there for my 21st and usually go 3-4 times a year. We haven't been since the start of COVID so this will be an incredible reunion as the 2+ years of not being there is by far the longest stretch. There is nothing like getting down there during warm weather early, and doing a bar crawl in the casinos, sportsbooks, beach bars, hitting the beach, then going in for a shower. While the girls get ready, me and the guys hit the casino and gamble a bit then we do dinner, and the whole night is ahead!

I've also been to AC a few times, fun place

Fuck me. Whoever drafts me, please ensure that you have a mensa member/MIT graduate on board for build help. Thanks in advance.

I was in a group called SET (Study of Exceptional Talent) based out of Johns Hopkins that was largely considered a middle school/high school precursor to Mensa at the time. Obviously did not put in nearly the effort to maintain that sort of thing as I got older and so I'm pretty sure I was never officially a Mensa member (I did get a lot of their mailings at the time) but pretty close. Tbh now it seems somewhat trivial even though at the time it seemed like such a huge thing

    2. If you could live anywhere in the world during another lockdown, where do you think it could be?

    3. What is your favourite international movie?

    4. What are your thoughts on @diamond_ace returning?

    5. If your player was not playing hockey, what would they be doing?

    6. What is more satisfying, a game winning goal or a game saving block?

    7. Who has the strangest nickname in the locker room?

    8. What is your pre-game ritual?

    9. How is the city, Prague, treating you?

    1. Dont know didnt do it

    2. Not sure actually, would have said London but they kind of fucked up the restrictions just like Murica did so maybe New Zealand? Not sure of their weather, hopefully not too hot there

    3. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. Basically all of Ghibli's catalog but Nausicaa is my favorite

    4. Back to where it all began

    5. Developing Rimworld, since that's what the real Tynan Sylvester does.

    6. Block for me. The goal guys get all the glory, the block guys are doing it for the right reasons. You do still need goal guys to win though

    7. Darth Kaprizov, everyone calls him the sith lord.

    8. Send a mechanoid cluster to @.sniffuM between the 1st and 2nd period

    9. Fantastic! Such a nice place

  11. Hybrid potential drawback: if we added these extra attributes, we'd end up with people adding stuff to what sounds like a direct correlation to a stat output and then get mad the sim isn't giving them more of that stat.

Example: I know the S20 version of me (the guy that kept Intranquilo's scoring at 40 for like 5 seasons bc I wanted the ultra defensive guy that doesn't really exist in STHS) would have added out the ass to the new "shot blocking" attribute. If I was on a good team, I would not necessarily have gotten more shot blocks despite adding to shot blocking, which sounds like something that should give you more shot blocks.

Yeah anyone could do so, but it really is just a season of GM earning manipulation to end up lower in the draft class. If I suddenly stopped doing PT's on my next player and only claimed pension and GM pay, from creation through draft, I highly doubt I go in the first round, therefore making it more likely to be able to draft myself. My point was mainly that there are plenty of other ways to tank your stock "legally," but ways that still show that GM players will continue to cause issues in the future.

Idk, seems like we're getting held in a higher standard when it comes to discussing what we can do with our players and how we should think about them, but not when some of the GM's explicitly break rules. I could definitely draft some other player should I want to, and I'm happy to do so. I've long preferred to get more voices in the LR on the team. I just think it's unrealistic to expect that GM's shouldn't want their own player, an asset they have full control over.

No action outside "case by case" handling tells me I could just find quiet ways to tank my stock, and you've said one method I could use wouldn't be considered tanking. I'm talking a lot from a VHL GM perspective, but I don't speak for all of them. Any of the other GM's have thoughts here?

    @Alex @Enorama @diamond_ace

    I am not a GM.

but did it really take until this for people to have issue with rory as gm

when you have a guy whose entire personality is some combination of "troll everyone always" and "disagree with every action done by anyone with even the slightest bit of power, just for the sake of doing so" and hasn't the slightest capability of seriousness... is this a gm?
