  1. Hello all, I will not be recreating at this time. Big thanks to the many people who played a big part in this being my best VHL run and my favorite run I've had in any sim league. It was really cool to come back right before membership exploded and see where that took the league over the past few years :)

I'll see yall whenever I actually get around to getting this tattoo

I did my due dilligence and looked two pages for a general thread for this and couldn't find it. What's everyone watching now/what's everyone's favorite shows? Aside from Thrones obviously, I know you guys never stop watching that. :P

Just recently watched Rick and Morty and am 2 episodes away from finishing Community. R&M was about as good as I was expecting it to be, Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon are beasts. Community's interesting for me, season 1 was great, and seasons 2 and 3 are really the sweet spot. I stopped watching long ago after hearing about how bad season 4 was but recently watched some favorite episodes which eventually got me back to watching everything. S4 was okay, I didn't hate it as much as a lot of people but I feel like I mainly liked it because I was invested into the characters. S5 and S6 are solid but it's tough to get through sometimes without some of the characters that have left.

I'd say my listing of top 10 favorite shows of all time would probably have to be:

    1. Peaky Blinders (ainec)

    2. Boardwalk Empire (still need to finish the last season)

    3. Breaking Bad

    4. Arrested Development

    5. One Piece (I'm about 10 real episodes behind)

    6. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (until Season 7, everything after feels like it's just going through the motions)

    7. Game of Thrones (stopped watching after season 4 because I'm not a big fan of books 4 and 5, I might get back into it but probably wanna read book 6 first)

    8. Sons of Anarchy (first 5 seasons are great, season 6 was bad enough that I've never seen the last season and don't plan on it)

    9. Rick and Morty

    10. Community

Probably forgetting about some stuff. But yeah. What's everyone else watching and shit?

    fucking nerd

If we knew beforehand who would present it, they'd have a while to find guests and prepare something. They could also be involved in the selection of the date and time, obviously.

Far as I know, at least for the VHL birb has been trying to find people for a few seasons and it's either the same people wanna be on it or no one else really wants to join. It's also a little tough when you don't have a steady cast because of chemistry and all that.

My point stands though, like the real compensation is aiding the community. Job pay is entirely secondary.

You could find enough mods to do it for cheaper or free that just want to make the community a better place. You think discord mods on other servers or subreddit mods get anything?

Imo this doesn't work (if you wanna keep the staff small while guaranteeing a selection of good mods at least) at the current standard. Once better mod pay was established (as was warranted imo), if you lowered it severely you'd probably only really have the people that are super-dedicated to the job at hand (few and far between for such a thankless job imo) or you'd have to bank on new members not used to a better payout taking on the job for the prestige while accepting a comparatively low payout. To me, comparing it to a discord or reddit mod position is apples to oranges as in those positions, generally there isn't a defined payout structure like there is for VHL jobs.

I will say for those against VHL GM job pay, while there are definitely quiet weeks, there is little accounting for things like spending hours writing up individual scouting reports/questions for each prospect, or spending multiple hours studying lines or theory-crafting against teams you're gonna play in the playoffs. Not things required of the position, sure, but as I spent that time doing so as a VHL GM during my tenure I'd like to think the GMs that do take the time to do all that get compensated thusly. :P

Lastly, I know quite a few people who would ragequit if pension was abolished, so like, don't do that imo.

which is fine.... but what's the argument for Holik? 88 shutouts? Why don't we induct a S1 forward with 1.50 points per game as well?

Obviously jumping back into this discussion too late to really affect anything as the vote has already gone up and everything, but if said S1 forward with 1.50 points per game didn't get in because they were, say, 7th in their era in PPG, but enough time passes to show them maintaining a top 10 position all time, I'd be 100% fine with them getting in. Even if they weren't one of the most absolutely dominant players of their era, if their performance was still head and shoulders above the vast majority of their contemporaries and holds up strongly from an overall historical standpoint, imo you can make an exception and put them in.

Not that that really applies here as Holik's performance from a save percentage standpoint isn't really up there with the HOF goalies from the era, and after seeing the single season shutouts leaderboard littered with seasons from S50 to S58 I'm more inclined to not feel as strongly about Holik's case. I'm not saying shutouts is the end all be all by any means, but it still feels weird to not have a player in that is second all time in a statistic like that. But I fully get why the rest of his case wouldn't be as strong, I haven't done nearly as much of a deep dive into Kellinger but my first look didn't really feel like anything crazily HOF worthy so my second vote stood at Holik for this weaker class.
