Rift Not Ready To Ride Into Sunset

QUEBEC CITY - In a climatic series for the ages, the Quebec City Meute were pushed to the very brink by Sebastian Ball Jr. and the Seattle Bears. However, with elimination on the line in a hostile environment away from home, veteran goaltender Skylar Rift seemed to pay no attention to the crowd. Two games in a row, Rift and the Meute entered facing elimination and both times the controversial goalie delivered, holding the Bears to just two goals during those games. The Meute had survived to fight on against the Victory Cup-winning Toronto Legion.

"Yeah, I heard more or less throughout the entire series that I was done, that this was it," said Rift following Quebec City's Game 7 win against the Bears. "But on the ice, their words are meaningless. They aren't the ones taking shots on me, they're not the ones who will take me down. And despite what it may seem to be, I am far from finished with playing hockey."

Shocking the Victory Hockey League by announcing his retirement following this season, Skylar Rift has been the ultimate enigma. Personified by his coolness and consistency on the ice, off the ice he is the vocal leader of the Meute, always fired up and ready to mouth off. He announced that he will retire following the season, yet he has saved some of his best play in order for that season to continue on.

"I don't want to even start to imagine what this team will be like without Skylar next year," said Doug Clifford, a forward for the Meute. "He means so much to this team and without him, Quebec City never would have hoisted the Continental Cup or escaped the basement of the VHL. You can replace him on paper or on the ice, but you can't fill the void of the team's soul just like that."

With Quebec City ready to travel to Toronto for the North American Conference Finals, the stage is set for an absolutely memorable series. Remy LeBeau, the chief rival of Rift, finally has a team around him, resulting in a dominating season for the Toronto Legion on their way to winning the Victory Cup. But while LeBeau has achieved tremendous personal achievements, he now finds himself face-to-face with Rift, who has been to the top of the mountain countless times before. Can LeBeau defeat Rift for the opportunity to finally hoist the Continental Cup?

"It would certainly do wonders for my legacy to go through Skylar Rift to win the Continental Cup," said LeBeau in an interview conducted over the telephone. "It would certainly cheapen my legacy if I could only manage to win once Rift was gone, so to be able to not only beat him, but end his career on my way to a championship... that would be mighty sweet."

The stage has been set for an entertaining series, but only one thing remains clear: Skylar Rift is not going to simply ride off into the sunset without a fight.

Vasteras doesn't own the tie breaker actually, but they are certainly mounting that comeback.

The tie breaker is the season series against each other, which Cologne has obliterated Vasteras in.

Two forwards in the top ten in league points, while playing in a more defensive system isn't star power? That is news to me. Kellinger is 8th in league scoring.

Also Kesler "star power" isn't just about overall sim results. TPE plays a factor as well. That is why players like Clifford and Jones are star power players in the making, not star power players. It is easy to stat pad in this league but it doesn't make you any more or less of a star power player. Loading up on points against a team like Calgary for example doesn't suddenly make you a better player. TPE for example plays a role and both Grigs and Kellinger are at star power levels of TPE similar to how both you and Tordahl are. Your team has 3 players in the top ten scoring we have 2, so it isn't like somehow your "star" stat power is godly compared to ours.

Both teams have equal star power forwards in that they have two. Quebec also has the two Valiqs, and despite Nicklas performance this year he is a star power D. Then there is Rift in net. Arguing that Quebec has more star power than Davos isn't some stretch of the imagination. Jones is likely better than Tomas at this point and you guys have more players on defense, which is why I give Davos the edge in depth. But don't act like it's a stomp. It isn't. Quebec is the exact same roster minus one player that won the Cup last year.

Wozniak had more points than every single player in the league last year. Lot of good that did his team in the playoffs. But it's okay, keep measuring regular season individual player performances for the playoffs. Davos turning into more of the villains than Quebec. Boom is like the only classy guy left in a sea of arrogance. Playoffs is going to be fun!

Look at the arrogance on Brovy. It is going to be hilarious to watch Osbourne and Zhumbayev star power their way to the finals at the expense of Davos I think. Helsinki Quebec rematch is imminent.

After being traded from the Minot Gladiators to the Bratislava Watchmen, new VHL prospect Logan Laich is getting geared up for the VHLM playoffs. The Watchmen are an elite team loaded with talent and Laich has been complimenting their roster well. His hard nosed approach to the game appears to be gelling with the rest of his teammates and has been increasing Laichs drafting stock. When asked about the playoffs and the upcoming VHL draft after a recent victory, Logan had the following to say.

"I'm super happy to be here. You know I did a bunch of touring around Europe and I gotta tell you being here in Slovakia is a great feeling. It is really an underrated hockey country and we have some great fans. I have faith that our talented group of boys here can bring a Founders Cup to the faithful fans. As far as the draft goes I'll just be happy to go anywhere. It doesn't matter. I want to play in the VHL next season, and if possibly I'd love to spend my career with the team that drafts me. I'm in the VHL for the long haul. If it I get drafted early so be it, but I'll be fine going later. Just getting an opportunity to play in a league with the type of fans and the atmosphere as the VHL is a honor for me. I can't wait to see where I end up."

Pajari played out his final season in Seattle for a Cup run. We lost to Calgary in the finals the last year before expansion. Then the next year Noah! sent Lebedev to New York to join us for our Cup run. Up until that moment Noah! and I had never played on a team before so part of that was the reasoning behind those two deals. But I have enough ties with people on your roster that I'd love playing with you guys again without any hassle. Toast, Rockstar, Noah!, 808, Damien (although mostly inactive) and still a few members I have yet to play with that I'd like to. Namely Cowboy, +/- an Sball who I'd like to play with at some point.

Kendrick and Boom also give us a brand new Pajodcast quest for the loyal listeners for next week. A little on the longer side today as opposed to the usual one hour ones, but it was great to have Kendrick/Boom join us so we dug in a bit more on some interesting conversations.

Isn't there only like three Caps fans on this board? I'm happy we won a game Meg, but we need to make trades. Way too many holes on the roster. I SURELY hope GMGM gets the axe. Time for a face lift imo.

Realize you are of course quite incompetent so you probably missed it, but there is a rules and guideline sticky post at the top of the XM Radio section. Also, your arrogance is rather amusing. I'll make sure to note your self importance seasons down the road when you most likely have gotten yourself banned, retired, or moved on. Don't worry though, people with very low attention span rarely make it far in this league.

Trifecta have you ever heard of the word humility? You should learn it, and apply it far more often.

In regards to the PC, effort isn't just about time commitment. It is about actually giving half a shit and putting some mental thought and creative effort in what you are doing. There are graphic makers out there who could do a solid looking player card in a few minutes, but it's the fact that they choose to put in a creative effort in their work that qualifies it as fine. Similarly, writers like myself or even you as mentioned could easily do 150+ words in less than a minute. But it's about coming up with an interesting topic to talk about for those amount of words that qualifies as the effort. Even joke 590's generally come up with something to talk about.

You put in a half ass pathetic effort here. You know it, you intended on it, whether to get people like Kendrick to flame you to boost your own ego or because you simply didn't give a shit. Either way, we denied Stamkos copy and pasting a bunch of stat lines to qualify as a Fan590 on the same principle as the work you have put in for this.

To some degree the amount of attraction this thread has gotten makes me think that how we do free agency as a league needs to be examined. Not because some teams don't get free agents, but because free agents choices seem very limited.

Everyone pretty much has to offer the limited salary since higher salary doesn't do anything but add TPE. If a team wants to compete eventually keeping a players salary as high as it can be makes no sense. Thus there is really no contract bidding. Ergo it comes down to the player. While some players have been more patient than others in this league, at the end of the day everyone here just wants to get together on a team with a good group of members and have some fun hopefully while making the playoffs and trying to win a Cup. Even a team that is rebuilding lures players in with the promise that they will one day be doing that very thing. Ergo the teams that are in the best position to win..pretty much automatically get free agents to fill their wholes. While this years was a bit more interesting since Quebec really only had Cap room for the player we had, and players like Boom did decide to head to Davos which is a bit more out of the box considering he left a Cup contending Helsinki, it still makes me wonder.

I know Kendrick has pitched some ideas in the BoG but we will likely continue to visit some more ideas regarding the free agency subject. It should be a more interesting and dynamic part of the league. Drafting can be hit or miss pending on how many actives but the draft generally always draws in excitement and is a solid way to build a team. While the trade deadline doesn't see attention trading in general is always exciting and makes a huge spike in the league. But Free Agency has always felt somewhat hollow.

I think you are misunderstanding my idea. You can get a quote for the cost of something before you make a sale. So you'd email or call the company that does custom jerseys. (I found several when I did a google search a few weeks back) You ask them what prices would be for various amounts of custom jerseys, get your pricing in...and then we mark up the price of the jersey by a percentage before we pitch to sell it to the members. Then any member who wants a custom made jersey will agree to pay in advance, we get all the money for the jerseys' including our mark up which is essentially donations/profit and then buy the jerseys for the members who want them. Simple as that.
