    Who is Jubis ?

    Intro
Not the player but the man behind the mask. I'd say the man behind the computer but I dont have one. Yes every article, career task and graphic I have done has been 100% by mobile phone. So who is Jubis the VHL member ? I'll put together some questions and hopefully they shed some light on who I am. I know people keep themselves pretty private online but will do my best to open up a bit. No credit card information or social insurance numbers will be revealed.

    Where are you from?
Well I've lived all over Canada it seems. I'm from a small french acadian community in south western Nova-Scotia. I honestly loved growing up in Nova-Scotia and it will always be home. I visit every year. In my early 20s there was just a lack of work in my area other than the fishing industry. I was a plumber by trade. So at age 21 I packed up my car and left for Alberta with my brother and two best friends. We were in search of better jobs that were just lacking in Nova-Scotia. I ended working in Alberta for 5 years. For the Albertans in the forum that know the oil sands. I worked at Imperial Oil's site Kearl with an operations type job for those 5 years. Lived in Calgary for year at one point during that span too. I eventually met my wife both of us on vacation trips down south in the Caribbean. I eventually moved to Toronto with her. Got married have two kids now. I've kind of lived all over the GTA but live in Etobicoke now.

How did you join the VHL?
Some people have speculated that I have friends in the VHL, that I know in real life but this is not the case. I actually wasnt even officially recruited by anyone. I didn't even search for the league on google or anything. I had no idea these types of leagues even existed. I had been playing a Hockey Agent app based game on my phone and saw  the creators of the game recommended the VHL. If someone on this site created the hockey agent game or have affiliation you technically recruited me. (Potential TPE for someone?). Once I checked out the VHL site I was more than intrigued I was hooked. I have loved statistics even as young as 10 years old. Let's just say at one point you wouldn't have wanted to play NHL trivia against me.

Are you experienced in online sim leagues?
Like I said above I didn't even know they existed. I have zero experience when it comes to sim leagues. I joined like the first week of September just over two months ago. I am a 1st generation player at its finest. Everyone has got to start somewhere tho right ? What sets me apart is how competitive  I am. It took me until about the first week of October to learn how to be a top earner. I sucked at doing graphics and definitely didn't dare do any writing. Once I started I was addicted to earning TPE. I did my career tasks and even started writing. I think there is a very good chance I out earned everyone in my s69 draft class during that span. Say start of October till last week. I went from bottom of the draft to a 1st round pick. It's not cause I'm good I just put in the work.

    Do you love hockey?
Yes I do! Played ice hockey from age 5 to 21 but stopped playing after junior. I started playing ball hockey here in Ontario. On my 3rd season of that and just love it. I've also bought the EA sports Nhl games 20 years straight. Since living in Ontario I've attended a bunch of NHL games at the Air Canada centre/Scotiabank Arena. Including two playoff games.

Review: Fun article! I'm from the east coast too, so it was cool to see that you grew up here! Also cool to see that you took up ball hockey, one of my favourite parts about the sport is how many forms it can take and still be fun (roller, street, ball, ice). As far as the article goes, it was formatted very well, and the gifs were a nice touch as well. Nothing bad to say about it. Good luck in Calgary!

Long sleeve t-shirts would be cool. I also wear a hat every day so I think that would be sick as well. So long as the quality isn't bad I'd probably buy something if there is an incentive other than actually wearing it once a week. Maybe add some player benefits like a couple of doubles weeks and bonus 5 tpe.

    Salutations VHL,

I will be doing a quick and dirty S69 draft review, giving my opinion on which draft picks were well played and which draft picks will backfire on the GM and bust up.

I mean no ill-offence or disrespect to anyone in the following commentary. I completely understand not everyone is awake @ degen hours, active on the discord, or a bastard like myself. I may have never even spoken to you before and am calling you a bust in this article. This is a pure opinion piece of an infamous sim league villain/scumbag, so do not take any offence if I think you're a bust. Use it as motivation and prove me wrong and link me this article in 8 months and call me an idiot.

I also pay 0 attention to the VHLM, so if you were very active there and tore shit up, I have literally no clue about it.

    ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ BUST OR LICK - S69 VHL ENTRY DRAFT ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ

    1. :pra: Cinnamon Block - I'm thinking I've made a grave mistaken copying all of his pickems/predicts over the past 3 seasons, but with the 1st overall pick, Prague hit a LICK. Established/well known VHLer who has former MVP players built.

    2. :dcd: Benny Graves - Anyone of his graphic ability cannot be considered anything besides a LICK. Plus he's staff and an OG/respected VHL member.

    3. Guy Saskamoose - I've seen his username before and even remember enjoying some of his content on the forum/discord. However, due to players passed over, Saskamoose is our first BUST. hedgehog was into the mids in a big way here.

    4.  Soren Jensen - Legendary sim leaguer who wins wherever he goes and has a mastery of sim league mechanics, both 'in-sim' and politically. NYA imo hit the LICK of the draft with this pick. Should be 1st OA imho.

    5.  RJ Jubis - Seems to be making a name for himself, but the guy has a damn black and white Boston Bruins logo as his avatar. Most boomerish avatar on VHL. Hopefully it's Bushito's irl friend or multi, cuz otherwise I hate to do it to you RJ Jubis cuz your graphics can be lit, but this is a BUST for me.

    6. :dcd: Guy Lesieur - Riga made this pick I think and then traded down for 7th oa and two 3rds? DCD must see something in him I don't, because the unimaginative username KC15 and boomer-era habs avatar/satirical name referencing boomer-era player are major warning signs of a BUST up imho. No disrespect, don't know the guy at all or follow VHLM.

    7. Benny Storm - Australians are coming up in a big way on the sim scene lately, idk why. Frankly though, I haven't been too impressed with any Australian I've met on SBA, so unfortunately my dawg hedge is still in the mid pack here with another BUST.

    8. Erik Summers - Player name is the same as username. BUST.

    9.  Hiroshi Okada - Successful player builder on a hockey sim league which permabanned me. Can do nice graphics and player name contains niche subculture reference that I understand. All the components for a LICK this deep into the round.

    10.  Patrik Tallinder - Player name is the same as username. BUST.

    11.  Kris Rice - Player name almost is the same as username. BUST.

    12.  David OQuinn - Way over-hyped and player name is almost the same as username but confusingly different. BUST.

    13. Will Clarke - Commish / VHL Portal creator / Probably most important VHL member in history... How the fuck does Will Clarke slip to 13th overall into the welcoming arms of sick degenerates like Victor and myself? Absolute LICK of the draft outside of round 1. I was only going to do round 1, but this was outrageous and I had to speak on it.

That's all for this week folks. Why don't Prague and DC Dragons have emojis though??? ? ? ?  @Beaviss
  15. Cheers

Come on @gorlab you literally showed zero love for 1st gen players. Most new players will use a name similar to their username for their first player. You licked established members and busted on all the new guys/girls. Oooh that sounds dirty

I enjoyed how realistic his path was too the VHL. Making the decision at a young age to start taking his physical fitness seriously. I liked that you referred to actually records held in the Mooseheads organization. I’m really impressed with how you stuck with it as well once you made it to the VHLM and worked hard to get noticed by VHL teams. Great job, looking forward to playing with you in Calgary in years to come.

The above is the randomly assigned Draft Order. The draft is conducted in a snake order, meaning that round 2 is the reverse of round 1, etc. There is a time limit of 12-hours per pick, if the person ahead of you has not picked in their 12-hour slot, you may make your selection, and they can go any time after. If a member misses two straight picks, they will be DQ'd and have their team auto-drafted based with BPA based on last season's results. Once you have made your selection, tag the person following you.

    RJ Jubis Biography

    EARLY LIFE
RJ Jubis was born in Yarmouth, Nova-Scotia, Canada. A small town with a population of just over 6,000 people. He was first pushed into the sport of hockey by his father. They skated on their shallow pond behind their house every winter. Even at a very early age he dreamed of playing hockey for a living. Like many kids RJ would imitate hockey stars he had seen on tv. He stepped onto the ice at the young age of 5. The location was University Sainte Anne's hockey arena in Church point, Nova-Scotia. Mixed with the 19 other skaters RJ Jubis did not stand out. Considered a late bloomer, things stayed this way for a long time. As he got older he failed to make the Atom and Peewee Rep teams for four straight years.  This did not stop Jubis from practicing his shot for hours a day in the garage of his family home. He would shoot with a shooter tutor covering the net. RJ would not stop practicing until he scored 10 in a row.

    TEENAGE YEARS
Fast forward through many road trips, old icy cold arenas and Tim Horton's pit stops. Tournaments where you may play 5 games in 2 days. On road trips the team would gather in hotel hallways to play mini stick hockey. These were Jubis's greatest memories at the time.
Now in his final Bantam year at age 14. RJ Jubis will begin to have his breakout year. He was playing in SEDMHA, an international minor hockey tournament played in Halifax, Nova-Scotia. He scored an outstanding 23 goals and had 6 assists in 6 games played. Leading his team to an Odyssey Championship with a 6-0-0 record. After winning the championship he was then contacted shortly after by the South shore Mustangs. The Mustangs had high hopes of him joining their team. They play in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League or NSMMHL. The same league that has rostered the likes of NHL superstars Sidney Crosby and Brad Marchand. RJ Jubis played two outstanding years for the Mustangs. He was able to play in 141 games and scored 186 goals ,112 assists for 298 points.

    JUNIORS
He was then drafted by the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League or QMJHL. His first season with the mooseheads was in 2017-2018. He struggled to find his speed and seemed to be a step slower then his opponents. He dressed for 56 games in his rookie season mostly on the 2nd line and scored 27 goals and had 14 assists for 41 points. With his hockey future in the balance he knew he needed a change. The following summer he immediately changed up his off season routine. He stopped attending summer Bbq's and parties with his friends. RJ began training daily. He wanted to lean out and add a lot of muscle to his frame. Once out of shape at 205 Lbs RJ Jubis was determined to put in the work. By the end of summer 2018 he was now walking around at a much stronger faster weight of 215 Lbs. He entered the Mooseheads training camp a man on a mission. He earned a spot on the top line out of training camp and never looked back. The 2018-2019 season was his best yet. He played in 65 games and scored 69 goals. This was just 2 goals shy of the Mooseheads record of 71 goals held by Ladislav Nagy back in 1998. The Mooseheads were lucky enough to host the Memorial cup that year. RJ Jubis was not able to finish the season on a high note tho as Halifax lost in the final to Rouyn-Noranda.

    THE INJURY
RJ Jubis was 40 games into what looked like his career year with the Mooseheads.  He had scored 46 goals and was gunning for the all time goals in a single season record. Then the injury happened. The Mooseheads were on the road against the Charlottetown Islanders. Down 3-2 in the 3rd period with 12 mins left. The  Mooseheads were on the powerplay. Jubis the big body was playing the front net position. They cycled the puck around for the 1st minute. Then Jake Ryczek has an open lane and takes a bomb of a slapshot. The shot hits Jubis directly in the face and he collapses to the ice. The medical staff rushes to the ice. Immediately it is evident that the puck hit Jubis in the eye. The crowd was standing and the arena was silent. RJ Jubis just was not moving with a pool of blood next to him. It took a few minutes for RJ to gain the strength to get up and on to his feet. He was then rushed to the nearby hospital in Charlottetown. Emergency surgery was required to repair a damaged retina. Jubis had a lengthy recovery ahead of him. He missed the remainder of the season. This injury had Pro Scouts beginning to look the other way. It took 5 long months but RJ Jubis fully recovered. He gained his vision back in his injured eye. Even though he was fully recovered no pro team wanted to touch him. Jubis once a projected top 10 1st round pick became an undrafted one.

    THE VHLM
Jubis knew after going undrafted that his only way to the pros was through the minor leagues. He started reaching out to teams in the VHLM. The Saskatoon Wild were immediately interested. They signed the 6'4" free agent to a one year deal sight unseen. Jubis was ecstatic because the Wild were willing to take a chance on him. He started the season with something to prove. He was willing to do whatever it took to get potentially drafted by a VHL team. The hockey gods had other plans in mind as nothing seemed to go Jubis's way. Halfway into the season Jubis had scored only 6 goals in 44 games played. The possibility of a VHL team wanting to draft him was growing thin. He was a late round pick at best. That is if he even got drafted at all. Saskatoon coaching staff decided to get Jubis to centre the first line. Playing alongside star forward Ondrej Ohdraka jump started Jubis's season. Jubis scored 23 goals through the final 28 games. This propelled him up the draft rankings and essentially took him from zero to hero.

    VHL DRAFT
As the VHL draft approached it was easily visible that no player in this seasons draft had climbed the rankings as fast as Jubis. Jubis was now projected to be drafted anywhere from 7th-15th pick in the 1st round. Out of nowhere Jubis was off the board early. The Calgary Wranglers selected him with their 5th overall pick. RJ Jubis was beyond excited. Getting to start the season for a wonderful organization like Calgary. The Wranglers showed Jubis that they truly had faith in him by selecting him so early. Jubis has realized his dream and has become a true professional hockey player. RJ Jubis is expected to have a long a prosperous career for Calgary. Some hockey insiders think he might just be a few seasons away from cracking the Wranglers 1st line. Only time will tell where this story goes.

    S69 Team Captains Reveal

The Wranglers have added many new faces over this off-season weather through the draft or through trades. After a disappointing end to a tumultuous season, losing in the North American Conference final the team looked to re-tool while adding youth and still being competitive. The team looks to be back in the North American final once again at the very least and with that we will lean on some of our senior members on the team for leadership this season including a new Captain and two new Assistants.

We are proud to announce the captains of your season 69 Calgary Wranglers

    (C) G - Brick Wahl @BladeMaiden
Brick has been a leader in the locker room for many seasons now and have shown the league how you train to become the best. Hard work and dedication in all aspects of the game make Brick the perfect choice and as he will be a first time captain he will need help so here are his assistants.

    (A) C - Roll Fizzlebeef @TacticalHammer
Fizzlebeef has been around this team for quite some time now and is ready to jump into a new leadership role. While not the most outspoken member of the locker room he is probably one of the most calming players we have and a steady hard worker that took over as our top line center last season by force, far outperforming his counterpart who was promptly traded at the deadline.

    (A) D - Cody Smith @cody73
Cody is by far the youngest member of the Wranglers new leadership but has proven himself to be an extremely eager and hard working young defender who is ready to make a massive jump this season. I see a large jump in points and star power in the immediate future for Mr. Smith.
