Ricer13 reacted to Berocka in VHL teams compared to Australian Rules (AFL) Teams
Hello, I am Berocka your friendly Australian and today I thought I would share with you the Sport I follow second most in Australia the AFL (Australian Football League). This is Australian Rules Football, no this is not Rugby, and you would be a brave person coming to Australia and calling it Rugby. I will give each of the VHL teams their AFL counterpart. I think this could be a fun series that not only I but people can do. Like whom from the VHL is most like Manchester United, Barcelona, The Patriots, the Oilers, Indian Cricket Team, or other sporting leagues around the globe. Well, I believe this is enough fluff to start so let us get into the meat and potatoes.

In Alphabetical order the VHL teams will be compared to an AFL team. Some of these are a stretch so I could do all 16 teams in the VHL. For people who know about the AFL the two teams I have left out are Western Bulldogs & Sydney Swans.

Calgary Wranglers are the Essendon Bombers  @Ricer13

Similarities: One of the original teams and one that has history set in stone. To me Essendon and Collingwood have a huge rivalry and play a game on ANZAC day every year as a rivalry game. If you scroll down you will see that Collingwood has been paired with Seattle and I think that the Seattle and Calgary rivalry has been one of the biggest to me personally.

    Team Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KybYJ8Xk-HI
Personal Feelings of the AFL Team: This team has always been close to me, my favourite player when I was a kid had a huge rivalry with a player on the Bombers so it was always a fun match up the Bombers defender was so good and there were a lot of good battles. I love the logo and the team identity and it would probably have been my second favourite team in the past.

Chicago Phoenix are the Port Adeliade Power @JeffD

Similarities: I hate the Phoenix as well as hating Port Adelaide... Well I don't hate the Phoenix so that bit is a lie. Port Adelaide is one of the youngest teams to win a premiership and so is Chicago. That is where the main comparison comes from, also they have a huge rivalry with the Adelaide Crows as they are the only two teams from South Australia. I think that if Chicago was to have a rival it would be LA as they are the two NA expansion teams from the same era. This is where the similarities lie.

    Team Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lbWgbAL_DQ
Personal Feelings of the AFL Team: Fuck the power, lol I have never liked Port Adelaide, not only do they have an absolute douche of a news reader in Australia that is a fan of them. But, they defeated my team in their 4th straight premiership final. They stopped us from doing a 4-peat. Ever since then I have never really liked them as a team.

D.C. Dragons are the St. Kilda Saints @Enorama

Similarities: I consider D.C to be similar to St. Kilda due to the fact that St. Kilda will make the finals and work their way up to the Grand Final a couple of times but never does quite enough to win the cup. I think this sums up D.C. They are always in talks of being the best but never quite going all the way to win the cup. They always show promising steps but never quite make it to the top.

    Team Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oe8fvtPMUTw
Personal Feelings of the AFL Team: Oh when you have, the most boring song, oh when you have the most boring song. Oh I would hate to be a St Kilda fan, cause you have the most boring song... St Kilda. have been around since 1897 and only won a premiership in 1966. So even though they have made the big dance a couple of times in my lifetime I have never really considered them a good team.

HC Davos Dynamo are the Melbourne Demons @GustavMattias

Similarities: Demons and the Dynamo what a history they have. They have won some cups and they have done extremely well in the past but oh my. Aren't they just the butt of a lot of peoples jokes recently. Like no one thinks they will win anything any time soon. As soon as someone talks good about them they honestly crash and burn or just fizzle out to nothingness. Maybe one day they can both return to their previous glory.

    Guernsey:
    Team Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ab_Rdr0pfN0
Personal Feelings of the AFL Team: Ahh Melbourne, umm, well I don't have really strong feelings about them at all. Demons is a cool name I guess, they have just never been a good team or one I have ever really watched. I really have no thoughts about them what ever. They have been in the league forever since the conception and they have won a lot of premierships just never been good this century.

Helsinki Titans are the Geelong Cats @Rayzor_7

Similarities: The Cats have always been a team that you know could probably win this season. I feel like this is Helsinki, they always have a team that if they look like contending you would expect them to go deep in the playoffs. This happens every season really they make playoffs or look good during the season.
    Logo:
    Guernsey:
    Team Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akAkWj7kXt0
Personal Feelings of the AFL Team: Geelong Cats is a team that I have always had a rivalry with. No idea why but most games I went and saw as a kid we always played the Cats. Thought it was also one of the best games I ever saw was the 2019 game against the cats.

London United are the Gold Coast Suns @McWolf

Similarities: One of the new teams in the league. They came in around the same time as the GSW Giants who you will see later in this list and you usually compare GC against GWS. I have made Warsaw GWS and I think that Warsaw and London usually get compared as they are both the new EU teams. Also neither GC or London have managed to make the Grand Final.
    Logo:
    Guernsey:
    Team Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uee_3UPLq0M
Personal Feelings of the AFL Team: The AFL wants the Gold Coast team to be Brisbane's rival they want it so badly. They keep trying to push the rivalry, calling the game we play each other the Q Clash. But I just couldn't care less about Gold Coast. They tried to buy big players out of the gate but never really became a power house of the AFL.

Los Angeles Stars are the Adelaide Crows @Josh

Similarities: Not only are they the major rivals with Port Adelaide as we discussed earlier. They have not really had any success recently. This was really quite a hard one as LA is a new team but I thought the rivalry with Port aka Chicago is probably the best comparison. Adelaide have won two cups back in 1997 & 1998 so long enough ago that everyone has now forgotten that.
    Logo:
    Guernsey:
    Team Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=subHCYCimYs
Personal Feelings of the AFL Team: The Crows are another team that to me aren't really a big deal, I have never known a Crows supporter and they have never really had any big match ups against my team. So they are just a team that flies under the radar for me.

Malmo Nighthawks are the West Coast Eagles @hylands

Similarities: Not only are Hawks and Eagles similar birds but the Eagles have had a fair bit of success lately making the finals quite a bit and winning a few cups. I know Malmo has only one the one cup but boy have they got close a couple of times. I think this is the closest comparison we can make. They also have a huge rivalry with Fremantle being the only two teams from Western Australia and I think that Malmo and Prague being two expansion teams in the EU kinda could give them a similar rivalry.
    Logo:
    Guernsey:
    Team Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioenqyOgbGo
Personal Feelings of the AFL Team: The eagles have been a good team recently and they have done quite well but I feel like the times the Eagles are good and the times my team is good never really over lap so most games are known. Also they are too far away to truly hate as a team haha. But I am sorry Malmo this is the worst song ever it is a pop rock song instead of a good old fashioned footy song.

Moscow Menace are the Richmond Tigers @Spartan

Similarities: The Yellow and Black, that is what the Tiger Army is called. To me the Tigers have always had an extremely loud fan base, this could be that they have the most members each year so it makes their influence seem even bigger. But even at away games the Tigers are known for their loud supporters. This is how I picture Moscow with the Moscow Moscow Moscow chants happening all the time in game threads to me it seems like a perfect match.

Personal Feelings of the AFL Team: Richmond have been a thorn in my side personally for a while. They have been extremely good team and have some great players. They win

New York Americans are the North Melbourne Kangaroos @Esso2264

Similarities: The North Melbourne Kangaroos are the but of most jokes in the AFL. They are underperforming recently and haven't one a cup this century which when you compare it to New York not winning a cup since S53
    Logo:
    Guernsey:
    Team Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGBoXwHETGI
Personal Feelings of the AFL Team: I honestly have no real strong feelings one way or another with Norths. They have never really been a strong rival of my team so I have not really ever cared on how they do. They want to move North Melbourne to Tasmania and I would be completely for that hopefully it would turn them into a good team finally.

Prague Phantoms are the Fremantle Dockers @diamond_ace

Similarities: They are the purple teams! They have never won a cup but have got pretty close a couple of times. They are also big rivals with the West Coast Eagles, not that I think Malmo and Prague are big rivals but maybe one day. Fremantle and Prague to me are always the middle of the pack teams probably will make the finals/playoffs but probably will not get very far.
    Logo:
    Guernsey:
    Team Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYcnuTktv20
Personal Feelings of the AFL Team: Again another team I don't really have strong feelings for to be honest. They have always just been a middle of the pack team in my eyes.

Riga Reign are the Hawthorn Hawks @hedgehog337

Similarities: The Hawks are a huge powerhouse and always seem to be in the top 8 come the end of the season and when you look at the Reign they always seem to make playoffs every season also. They are that team that you know will do quite well no matter what their roster looks like. If you go up against them in the playoffs you get a little bit worried and you just hope you can knock them off early. This to me sums up Hawthorn and Riga.
    Logo:
    Guernsey:
    Team Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AOnEa6XpuY
Personal Feelings of the AFL Team: Hawthorn have always been a good team and I will always have respect for them as a good team. Personally don't hate them or love them just know they are a good team and that is it.

Seattle Bears are the Collingwood Magpies @Banackock

Similarities: When I was starting this it was honestly the easiest comparison. The Magpies are easily the Bears of the AFL you either love them or hate them. They have had quite a bit of success since their inception but they are a known side. They love to be hated. They also have an absolute dickhead in one of the top ranks of the team in Eddie McGuire and well Bana if the shoe fits mate  anyway I really like this comparison. They are also only one of two teams to have completed a threepeat.
    Logo:
    Guernsey:
    Team Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HG2z3fkVqpQ
Personal Feelings of the AFL Team: Collingwood have always been a team I have had some rivalry towards we met them in a grand final twice in a row and beat them twice so my team is obviously better than them.

Toronto Reign are the Brisbane Lions @Peace

Similarities: The Lions are most well known for two things, one doesn't really apply here but it is the merger between two different AFL teams to make one team. They went from Brisbane Bears and Fitzroy Lions to become the Brisbane Lions. The second one is a threepeat done in 2001-2003. When looking through the history of the VHL the threepeat that Toronto completed in s48-50 really made the connection to me happen.

    Team Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYwW41-IoEE
Personal Feelings of the AFL Team: This is my team I have followed this team since I was 5 or 6. They had a lot of success in early 2000’s and that was great for me as a kid. I still currently go to games at least once a year. I have a good feeling about this season they are doing quite well.

Vancouver Wolves are the Carlton Blues @fonziGG

Similarities: Both are older teams with their history set. You know the team and you know what they can do when they play well. The Wolves and the Blues have made so many Cup and playoff appearances you know they are a great team. They Blues haven't seen much success lately but still ride on the success of old. I know that Vancouver have won a few cups recently but you definitely expect both teams with such history to continue being a powerhouse of the league.
    Logo:
    Guernsey:
    Team Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPpe2LVfgwo
Personal Feelings of the AFL Team: The Blues are just a team I never really paid attention to really. I don't think I could name many players that have played for them. Sorry but Carlton to me is really a nothing team.

Warsaw Predators are the Greater Western Sydney Giants @.sniffuM

Similarities: There is a big big sound coming from Warsaw. That is similar to GWS Giants. They are both brand new teams who have almost made huge amounts of success and to me they are both the favourite of the newer teams. GWS came in around the same time as Gold Coast and both are the newest teams.
    Logo:
    Guernsey:
    Team Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27XRugei364
Personal Feelings of the AFL Team: I have no real strong feelings about the team they are just a new team that have almost done well, they have a couple of dickheads that play for them. But, to me the older rivalries mean more to me than these newer teams.

Here is a summary of the above

Ricer13 reacted to JB123 in ROCKING GOLD -- Halifax Chiefs -- S77 ProAm
HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA -- May 6, 2021. The Season 77 ProAm Tournament was getting underway, with a draft. I was honored to be selected as the GM of Team Six. I soon welcomed @Anomalijs as my assistant GM, and we named the team the Halifax Chiefs, a combination of hockey teams from two popular movies, Goon and Slapshot (Halifax Highlanders, Charlestown Chiefs).

For those of you who do not know, the ProAm tournament is something to do in the offseason when not much is going on. Players sign up, from both the VHL and VHLM (and soon VHLE 😏)? The players are then put into a pool to be drafted to one of six teams. The teams compete in a 10-game regular season/round robin to determine seeding. All teams make the playoffs, where they faceoff to find a winner. Three medals are given out at the conclusion of the tournament, the traditional gold, silver and bronze.

Now it was time to pick up some players. We were picking third. With no goalies off the board at three, we were glad to pick Jacob Tonn, @MexicanCow123, who we felt was the best goaltender available. At 10th overall, we took center Isabella Campbell, @Banackock, who was an absolute steal in our minds. An elite two-way center who could win us a lot of draws as well. Not to mention that she was in the Cup finals with the Bears, who of course would win it a few days later. With pick 15, we selected Campbell's teammate Timothy Brown, @a_Ferk. Brown was someone who we didn't think we could get so late, but we did. He would be a great wing for Campbell, and their chemistry was already terrific. At 22, we took our top defender, Matt Thunder, @Matt thunder. Thunder is all you look for in a #1 D; a defensive stalwart, an excellent skater, and a puck-mover who could join the rush. We ended up trading our next pick, #27, as well as #39, for #29 and #32. With pick 29, we were happy to select Chris Reynolds, @Crstats23. Reynolds would form an unstoppable top line that would inevitably draw comparisons to the Perfection Line. Three picks later, left winger Dominic Gobeil, @Domg5 was a Chief. This pick in particular famously upset some people, not mentioning any names 😂. Gobeil was intended to be a solid option in addition to Reynolds at LW. However, with the way things went, we felt it best to play Gobeil on defense, something he was willing to do and I appreciate very much. We won gold, right? So I guess it all worked out. Getting back to our picks, with pick 34 we gladly selected our second line center, Steve Eso, @Eso. Eso would create an outstanding one-two punch down the middle along with Campbell. Eso was very good on offense, but it was his responsibility in the defensive zone that really wowed us. He could win faceoffs and do the little things right. We had to wait a while to pick again, but when we were on the clock at 46, we took defender Joe Madison, @Brewins15. Madison was a defender who we could trust to play big minutes and play well. Madison gave us great flexibility in our lineup. At 51, we grabbed Gustislav Nasherov, @Vat, a 1st round pick of the Helsinki Titans. Nasherov somehow remained on the board, waiting to be picked. Nasherov, we envisioned, would be a great sniper to play with Eso on the 2nd line. With our second-to-last selection, we took defender Jannik Nylen, @DreMin15. Nylen, although a VHLMer, was very underrated. Nylen could play in many different situations, and made our top-4 a unit to fear. With our final pick, we were beyond happy to select the AGM of the Chiefs, Miks Sunish. Sunish would get to play on a line with former Hounds teammate, Gustislav Nasherov. Sunish had a lot of offensive upside, and what better line to play on?

For reference, here were the main lines we rolled with throughout the tournament:
Chris Reynolds -- Isabella Campbell -- Timothy Brown
Miks Sunish -- Steve Eso -- Gustislav Nasherov

    Matt Thunder -- Joe Madison
    Dominic Gobeil -- Jannik Nylen

    Jacob Tonn

We were very lucky to get production from everywhere in the lineup. The team played great together.

We finished the round robin 6-2-2, good for the three seed. The top line had a combined 35 points through those 10 games. The second line had a total of 17 points. The defense also pitched in with 21 points. Goaltender Jacob Tonn was a brick wall in net, playing all our games and posting a stellar .940 save percentage and 2.42 goals-against average.

The team only seemed to improve as the tourney went on, elevating their game in the playoffs. We opened up the playoffs against the #6 seeded Subway Rats, winning the series 4-1. The next series was versus the tough #2 team, the Gila Monsters. Ultimately, we won in 6 games. And FINALLY we had reached the gold medal series. We were not going to lose now. This series was for all the marbles. No surprise, we would have to play the best team in the round robin, the Yakov Smirnoffs with EVERYTHING on the line. We split the first two games, split the next two, and now it was a best-of-three. We wrapped things up in Game 6, and we were crowned champions of the Season 77 ProAm Tournament.

Overall, I really enjoyed this tournament and am very thankful for getting the opportunity to GM a team. Congrats to all the players, and thank you all. Best of luck both this season and in the future. Thank you to my assistant GM, @Anomalijs, as well. Also, thank you to the people who make this possible each offseason, @PatrikLaine, @MexicanCow123, @Zetterberg, and @Ricer13. It is a great experience, and I would most certainly recommend it to anyone who hasn't played/managed in it yet. I look forward to playing again next offseason under someone new who's getting involved.

Since I do not want to look like a complete dingus in front of my teammates and not max earn my first week I will write about my experience of my first ever VHL week.

As I said earlier I have now experienced my first ever VHL week (hype). Within this first week, I have learned about a ton of new stuff that I did know, the first week with no Jubo or Laine in the front seats, my experience with my new teammates and some other stuff!

First things first. I did not know that there were going to be this many changes while moving up to the VHL, the biggest is of course the practice Facility. I did not know that one day you magically get tired forever and only earn half of your original earnings from practice, but hey I get it. Sometimes you just don't feel the same in practice anymore or just because of new teammates. This brings me to another thing to write about regarding the VHL. Let's say you just earn 1 tpe from the practice facility because you just got new teammates and you do not really sync up with your new teammates at the start, thus you only earn 1 tpe per training session, but after spending 3 or more season with the team you earn more tpe from practice facility rewarding you for staying true to your team instead of jumping from team to team just because you want to be apart of a cup contending team instead of a rebuilding one. This would promote becoming a veteran to a team and which I think makes more sense because I don't really see why you go from 2 to 1 tpe from PF every week after you advance to the majors. Maybe that could be a change in the future but the chance is not big if only I, a Degen publicizes it but if I could get some more famous people to want it then IDK maybe a change👀.

Something else pretty hectic happened too, Jubo and Laine left the front seats of the office and we got in 2 new amazing leaders, Rayzor (GM) and Hatter (AGM) which is very fun, Jubo decided to end his management career here but on the other hand, Laine became the GM of Minnesota which I am very happy for, I feel like he deserves it the most. Another fun thing is that hatter (current AGM) has become my AGM which is very fun because I am aiming to enter the top 3 longest times as an AGM in VHL history sometime, and just Hatter is the person with the longest AGM time, what exactly it is idk but I do know that it will be very hard to beat as several people doubt anyone to break it, but hey everyone doubted me and said I was a lick as the 12th overall VHL pick and now I'm not as much of a lick but less of a lick (Just kidding all hail the AGM king Hatter). On the note of AGMing as Hatter left the AGM spot of Minnesota means that there is another AGM to be picked there which I applied for, it would be very ironic if I started at the same place as Hatter and both of us enter the top 3 longest AGM times ever, will I get the spot? I have a chance but I still think there are some better candidates than me. If I don't get it I will be looking very much forward to the third League added (VHLE) as Västerås will most likely be back and it would be very awesome to become the AGM there but it is in S80 so there is still a ton of time for me to get some AGMing experience in the VHLM first which would undoubtedly make me more likely to get that spot.

I do easily have the most interesting career that I know, there have been tons of stuff happening where ever I am, if anyone wants stuff to happen in their team/anything you can hmu on discord or anywhere you know me.
Mexico - Cup (yes they only won because I was there not because they were amazing)
Mississauga - Founders cup finals (yet again only because I was there,
VHL draft - people wondering why I was picked 12th (honestly Idk why either)
S78 season start - VHLE expansion (only because they didn't want me to dominate the VHL😈)
S77 offseason - HSK GM and AGM change (Jubo and Laine couldn't handle this good of a prospect, no I'm kidding, they were amazing and I miss them so much)
As you can see a ton of major stuff has happened during my career and I can't wait for more stuff to happen, I am hoping I don't make major stuff switching a regular thing so I get bored when stuff doesn't happen but what a first-gen player has had stuff happen around him

Moving up to the VHL with the titans has been a blast so far! I've got to know a ton of more people and those I already knew I have gotten to know better, right now the Titans are strolling, 2nd in the League with 1 game in hand, I myself have not produced many points yet as I am literally the lowest TPA dude on the team, I can wait until next or even the one after next when I have established myself in the VHL and can prove the doubters wrong when they said that I was a lick after the VHL draft, maybe even I can put my second ring on my hand but it doesn't really matter, the only thing we could improve upon in Helsinki right now are the defenders as those are our lowest points right now, we have an awesome defense other than that, seriously I Luv those duds, but if we could bring in another defender we could be rated really high to win it all which would be sick but I do not really care about winning the cup right now, for now, I just want to enjoy myself in the VHL.

Now, couple of words about what's happening with Riga so far. 1-5-2 record...just kill yourself simon. This useless thing really trying to throw me out of the GM spot. Also, the retirement of Harvey. Which is gonna be a close to a disaster following this season. The goalie market won't be anything special (I assume), Spaz needs some time to get into the starter level. So there's a good chance a ~400 TPE Sovick would become a starter. How about not talking about politics at all, stupid fucks. Not like we're doing very well even with Harvey so how about to make things worse. Really pissing me off.

The last thing I have in my mind is the logo. I've been hearing members being advocates of the Reign logo change and overly not being fans of the current one. Like not horrible, but too outdated or stuff. Well, since I have zero graphic or logo making skills I can do nothing about that. Only to make a poll so you can voice your opinion about the logo and stuff. One thing I'd want to keep if we're changing it is the lion and orange color. I've seen @KaleebtheMighty version of Riga logo and people were fans of it. It doesn't mean this would be the new logo, but maybe? Anyways yeah, if members and our team would be interested in it I'll give a green light for the logo change.

So yeah, there are some Riga related things in this thread. I even had to post captains here instead in the proper section. It's a fact that I have no fun in doing PT's, but I'm trying to make my SBA guy good so that's a saving grace. But I won't be shy of claiming welfare if this is what comes to. Peace may be worried about this if reads this hah. Also, I do hope we will have more success in Riga cause I doubt I can take it even further if we'll have S77 all over again. The fact is that our team is simply better than rebuilding teams and I'm pretty sure we're at least on same level as Calgary, New York etc. I'm not like Gustav who somehow endured the similar fiasco with Davos for like 4 seasons, I'm not having as strong mental health as him.

    That's it and I'm out.

The sig is fairly large and gives a super large canvas (thus making it super hard to fill up). There's a ton of empty space on the left that could use work, the text looks nice and the render effects look great. I would work on making use of smaller canvases so that there is less empty space. 8/10

Sick logo swap my man.  Didnt expect a Brodeur render for Calgary but it works nice.  The background is my style, abstract af and impactful.  Theres also a cool skull type thing on the left, pretty cool too.  The choice of text is not my fave, my least liked part of the sig, but the effects used on it are quite cool.

I used cool alot because it's a cool sig.  8.8/10

Hello all you Nighthawk fans! Well, S78 is underway and we're off to a decent 3-2 start. And to celebrate the new season, I have a little surprise for you! During the off-season, I recorded a little ditty that will start playing on Malmo radio stations tomorrow. Please call in and request it on rival city stations when the Nighthawks play in that city. Aye, it's not Christmas, but I'm all about giving gifts (and hits) all year round! Enjoy!

    🎶 You better watch out
    You better not cry
    You better not pout
    I'm telling you why
    Deathwalker is coming to town

    He's made a Hit List,
    He's checking it twice,
He's gonna find you and it won’t be nice
    Deathwalker is coming to town

He sees you when you're skating
Knows when you’re on the ice
Crossing names off his Hit List
Is this big man’s only vice

    Oh, you better watch out!
    You better not hide
You better skate fast, I'm telling you why
    Deathwalker is coming to town

You may have come from Greenland
    Or the Czech Republic
But when he slams you in the boards
It will make your teammates sick

    Oh, you better watch out!
    You better not cower
At 6’7”, 250, he has all the power
    Deathwalker is coming…
To your home rink he is coming…
Let your heart sink when he’s coming…

Ricer13 reacted to Patrik Tallinder in Nils Tallinder's Rookie Experience
Thanks to @Jubo for this one!

There are a lot of emotions that go into a rookie season. Anxiety, excitement, and a barrage of other sensations flock together to form the butterflies in a rookie’s stomach before their draft, their first VHL training camp, and their first game with the big club. It is definitely overwhelming at times. And yet, there is a certain beauty that comes through in all of this madness. These moments stick with you for the rest of your life; They are nothing to take for granted. Calgary Wranglers forward Nils Tallinder knows this all too well, who has been told time and time again to enjoy this process from his older brother Patrik. Selected 10th overall by the Riga Reign 9 seasons ago, Patrik Tallinder had experienced everything Nils was going through and noticed just how fast everything went by.

In some people’s eyes, the 16 year old Tallinder brother has a lot to live up to. Along with the expectations that follow a first overall selection, Nils has a brother whose footsteps will be hard to follow. It’s a lot for a young kid to carry on their shoulders, but he feels that he can handle it. His whole junior career was preparing him for this moment; From a magnifying glass being placed over his development in the SuperElit system when he was just 14 years old to a 2nd overall selection in the VHLM Draft, Nils has always been in an uphill battle with reaching lofty expectations. He is more than accustomed to this, and this type of situation no longer bothers him in the early days of his VHL career. He is trusting that his work ethic and love for the game will bring him to the heights that he wishes to attain.

After making the Wranglers straight out of camp, Tallinder tallied his first goal and his first assist within the first 3 games of his young career. In a season that is bound to be a thrilling one for the team, he hopes to make a real impact every time he hits the ice. There will be many highs this season, but there will undeniably be many lows to accompany them. Nils knows that no matter what, he always has an irreplaceable foundation of support to fall back on. His new teammates, his new GM, and his brothers Lucas and Patrik are all there to help him succeed and he is playing his absolute hardest to thank them for that.

Ricer13 reacted to tcookie in S78 Season Preview: European Conference
    Around the VHL - Season 78 Preview Edition - May 20th, 2021

In S77, the Warsaw Predators captured the European Conference title and were joined in the top-3 of the overall VHL standings by the Helsinki Titans and London United. Eventually, Helsinki would make it through to the finals before falling to Seattle.

It was an off-season of relatively little change in the EU, at least compared to the previous season that had seen teams like Riga, London, and Prague all make big moves to try to vault to contender status while Moscow and Malmo had fire sales of sorts. Only London looks significantly different in terms of the team’s core compared to last season.

Today we take a look at the EU Conference teams heading into S78 and their biggest off-season changes, in predicted order of finish.

    1st -
    Forwards: 771.6 (2nd) // Defense: 640.4 (1st) // Goalie: 586.0 (8th) // Grade: 696.9 (1st)

    Key Addition: RW Gregg Stallion
The Predators’ biggest splashes in the off-season were cap-related selling moves, but in signing Stallion as a Free Agent, they added a talented scorer who has spent his entire career to this point in Vancouver, coming off a career-high 40-goal, 92-point season. Stallion will be more of a depth player than he usually was in Vancouver this season, but is a nice add to the Warsaw forward group.

    Key Deletion: D Latrell Mitchell
It was obviously difficult for Warsaw to move Mitchell, who has spent the past 3.5 seasons with the team and became one of the league’s best defensemen. The salary cap necessitated a move and he was sent to New York in exchange for Kaladin Kvothe, 1st, and 3rd round picks as well as an option to swap 2nds in S80. Mitchell will be sorely missed, though the Predators still have a very good blueline.

    Overview
Warsaw posted the league’s best regular season record last year, and also had the league’s best offense with a league-high 291 goals. With a very similar looking team to last season, there isn’t much reason to think they can’t do something similar this year. Led by Aloe Dear and Dakota Lamb up front, Victor Grachev and Chris Hylands on defense, the Predators have one of the best groups of both forwards and defensemen in the EU. Ajay Krishna has been great the past three seasons, but will need to stave off depreciation this year. That’s their one possible weak spot, but Warsaw will be one of the best teams in the EU again this year.

    2nd -
    Forwards: 787.3 (1st) // Defense: 557.0 (5th) // Goalie: 699.0 (4th) // Grade: 695.8 (3rd)

    Key Addition: G Jacob Carson
Carson is only the backup goalie, but there’s not much choice here as the only new face on the pro roster. Carson has actually posted very good numbers over two seasons as a backup with Warsaw, with a career 9-7-2 record and 0.930 SV%.

    Key Deletion: RW Xavier leFlamant
leFlamant left DC for a year to come to Prague, but after one season in the EU he went back to DC as a Free Agent this off-season. His one year overseas resulted in a bit of a drop-off in production from what he had been putting up in DC, but still a respectable 61 points. Prague does have a very deep forward group, so we’ll see what Robert Bouchard and Dan Baillie can do with the increased opportunity.

    Overview
They’re a good all-around team, with arguably the best forward unit in the league led by Thomas Landry II and his 200 points over the past 2 seasons. It’s the final season for both Landry and Jim Bob, so Prague will be looking to send them out on top, and they’ve got the lineup to contend. Defensively, they could use one more top pairing defenseman but they do have a deep group there too and Grekkark Gyrfalcon has proven to be a star netminder since arriving in trade from Malmo in S76.

    3rd -
    Forwards: 656.7 (5th) // Defense: 615.4 (2nd) // Goalie: 975.0 (1st) // Grade: 696.0 (2nd)

    Key Addition: D Micah Adrienne
London saw plenty of big names coming in and out over the past season, and this could easily be General Zod, as well. But Erik Killinger won awards last season, so as the piece coming back in the biggest magnitude trade, Adrienne will be the addition under the biggest magnifying glass. The former 3rd overall pick has been a good-to-great defenseman so far in his VHL career, now London will hope he can take it to yet another level.

    Key Deletion: D Erik Killinger
The United also lost future Hall of Famer Mikko Lahtinen to retirement and D Kasper Kankkunen in a trade. None of those are fun losses, but the biggest immediate impact will be felt in the loss of the defending Wylde and Labatte Trophy winner, Killinger, who had 86 points, 177 hits, and 182 blocked shots last season.

    Overview
They lack the elite forward group of Warsaw and Prague, but still have solid talent throughout the lineup with Julian Nousianen, The Terrible Trivium, Kevin King, and Alec Volchenkov. They’ve also got one of the best goalies in the league in Jacob Tonn, a former Shaw Trophy winner. London finished second in the EU with a 45-24-3 record, and despite changes and big losses, they have come out of it in pretty decent shape and figure to be among the European Conference contenders again.

    4th -
    Forwards: 681.5 (4th) // Defense: 568.9 (4th) // Goalie: 829.0 (2nd) // Grade: 668.6 (4th)

    Key Addition: D Jan Hlozek
The 8th overall pick in S77 moves up to the VHL this season and may be expected to step right into a top-4 role on a team with serious playoff aspirations. Hlozek posted 63 points in 72 games with Miami last season and while he might have expected more, he is a very highly regarded youngster who Riga is happy to have in the lineup this year.

    Key Deletion: C Ray Sheilds
Sheilds rode off into the sun a year earlier than some thought, probably partially due to a disappointing S77 campaign in Riga where he only put up 62 points and the team failed to live up to expectations. Prior to that, Shields had reeled off four straight 85+ point seasons. Sheilds was a true star, and someone that Riga will have trouble replacing.

    Overview
Eager to get last season’s mess behind them, Riga kept together their S75 draft core and have built a good roster once again. It will be up to them to live up to it on paper this time. They have a smaller roster this season than the past two, so there will be more opportunity for players like Justin Lose, Addison McLaren, Cabe McJake, and Isau DaMoose - the Reign are counting on a couple of breakout seasons there. Defensively, they’re similar to Prague with a deep group, just no true superstar, while Calvin Harvey has the talent to be one of the league’s better goalies if he can rebound from a tough S77.

    5th -
    Forwards: 721.7 (3rd) // Defense: 475.4 (7th) // Goalie: 735.0 (3rd) // Grade: 641.8 (5th)

    Key Addition: D Mikael Keef
Keef joins the team as a Free Agent signing after spending four years with the Los Angeles Stars. Last year was his best, as he had 58 points, 185 hits, and 179 blocked shots (also finishing with a positive +/- rating for the first time). With James Rose and Emi Rune outbound, Keef will need to be a contributor.

    Key Deletion: C Venus Thightrap
Of the players the Titans lost, the biggest challenge will be replacing Thightrap’s 41 goals and 93 points. There’s a good forward group here nonetheless, but 90 point players don’t grow on trees.

    Overview
Having developed a reputation as perennial contenders, this year brings some challenges for Helsinki losing Thightrap, Rose, and Rune. That’s a big bite out of a lineup with not much help coming in to replace them, but they’ve still got a very good group of forwards. Valtteri Vaakanainen has consistently been a big-time scorer and will have to lead the way again. We all know what Zamboni Driver can do in net, too, but it will be a matter of how well the defense can hold up especially with the big losses.

    6th -
    Forwards: 476.1 (8th) // Defense: 590.1 (3rd) // Goalie: 670.0 (5th) // Grade: 546.4 (6th)

    Key Addition: C Luc Tessier
They also added Rocket, who’s the better player in the immediate future, but this is a rebuilding squad and Tessier, the 4th overall pick in S78, is going to be a huge piece of the team going forward. Coming off a 78 point VHLM campaign, there will be plenty of minutes for him as a rookie in Davos this year.

    Key Deletion: RW Vlad Imir
There were quite a few faces heading out of Davos in the off-season, though none played particularly huge roles. Imir had spent the previous 3 years with the team, with a career high 17 goals and 37 points coming in S77.

    Overview
Davos seem to always be rebuilding, and here they are again. It’s not all bleak for their future, though, as they have two elite building blocks in Taro Tsujimoto up front (92 points last season) and Reylynn Reinhart on the blueline (S77 2nd overall pick who had 48 points in her rookie season). They’re adding Tessier and David Tavau, two highly regarded prospects from the S78 draft, and Kunibuni UnGuri is developing as a #1 netminder. There is hope for the future with this team, but it’s unlikely this will be the season they get back to the playoffs.

    7th -
    Forwards: 488.5 (7th) // Defense: 492.9 (6th) // Goalie: 654.0 (6th) // Grade: 517.5 (7th)

    Key Addition: LW Muffbeav
Muffbeav instantly becomes the best forward in the Malmo lineup and still has four years left in his VHL career. He’s actually spent most of his career to date as a defenseman, but moving up front will give him a chance to make the most of that 6’5, 215 frame in front of the net. With 71 points last season, Malmo hopes they’ve added a point-per-game or better forward here.

    Key Deletion: RW Gino DiGiannantonio
For Malmo, the real big deletions came at last season’s trade deadline, so DiGiannantonio’s 35 points is the only real asset of consequence that moved on in the summer.  The loss opens up playing time for Druss Deathwalker, who only had 17 points in his rookie season but had a whopping 317 hits.

    Overview
Malmo snuck into the playoffs last season despite rebuilding and trading some big names at the trade deadline, so it’s entirely possible they pull off something similar again this year, but on paper they seem to lack enough depth to contend for that 5th spot. This is especially the case if Riga plays more to expectations this time around. Talented youngsters like Brendan Telker and Deathwalker will get the best opportunity of their young careers while Artem Tretiak looks to continue to grow in the starter’s role.

    8th -
    Forwards: 495.7 (6th) // Defense: 348.0 (8th) // Goalie: 610.0 (7th) // Grade: 465.5 (8th)

    Key Addition: D Hard Markinson
The Menace have plenty of young stars up front, including Duncan Idaho, Paul Atreides, Philip Stein, and The Seabasstard. It’s the blueline that needed addressing, and #2 overall pick Hard Markinson figures to be the main piece in the effort to shore that up. Markinson played on the loaded Mississauga team last year and managed to put up 63 points and 198 hits.

    Key Deletion: C Chad Magnum
Chad Magnum retired after a solid eight-year VHL career last season, though only the last 27 games of that were spent with Moscow. In 576 games he put up 187 goals, 452 points, and 2542 hits. A grizzled veteran with grit is always welcomed for a rebuilding team, but truthfully, the Menace didn’t have too much in the way of consequential off-season losses.

    Overview
They’ve got a massive roster that might make playing difficult to find for some players, and they are clearly rebuilding. Relative to the rest of the division, they’re near the bottom in all three position groups. That’s primarily due to inexperience, though, as there are a host of very talented youngsters on this squad. Among the rebuilding squads in the EU, this may be the team set up best for the future with the amount of young talent they have. While they are unlikely to be a factor in the standings this season, it won’t be long.
