Spartan reacted to Quik in S72 VHL Draft Lottery
Season 72 VHL Draft Lottery
Date: Friday, May 8th, 2020
Time: 1PM EST (Give or take a few minutes)
Before we begin, a refresher on the Draft Lottery Rules:
I'll be conducting the draft lottery with screen shots that have time stamps to show this was all done correctly. I will be using a Random Number Generator from 1-1000, with the winners determined as follows:
1-300:
301-550: (from )
551-800: (from )
801-1000: (from )
Should there be subsequent lotteries, the winning pick's number range will be deducted from the total, and the odds will be re-ordered accordingly.
i.e. If Davos wins with their own pick, the next lottery will be done 1-700, with the odds being split as 1-250/251-500/501-700.
With all that out of the way, here are the Draft Lottery Results:

Spartan reacted to Patrik Tallinder in Tallinder's S72 Draft Profiles: Part 7
Hello everyone, I'm glad to say that I'm actually on time this week! Welcome to the 25th all-time installment of the draft profiles series, and I just want to say wow, I can't believe we've been doing this for half a year. Thank you to everyone who's been on this ride so far, and continues to read these regularly. But enough of me rambling, let's get to the article.
Chris Hylands and Thomas Moore earned the most TPE in the draft class last week, with 35.
Chance Rust was traded to Ottawa last week.
Kachur was hired as the AGM of Las Vegas last week.
SS Hornet leads S72 draftees in playoff points so far, with 8.

RISER OF THE WEEK
Spencer Elsby - D - 184 TPE @Spence King
It's basically a tradition now that I don't use one of the week's risers as the Riser of the Week, and this section may have to be restructured a bit. Elsby is the Riser of the Week this time because of two things. First off, he moved up two spots to enter my first round projection. Additionally, he became the AGM of the Philadelphia Reapers! This is a massive step in his young career, and will make him a much more attractive option for general managers come draft day. The Finnish defenseman had 35 points this season, and has really developed into a quality two-way defender. His TPE earning has been interesting, since he wasn't earning much TPE at all for a while, before exploding into the great prospect he is today. Fresh off of four straight 20+ TPE weeks, Elsby has truly come into his own lately, and I hope he can keep up that wonderful work ethic he's been demonstrating.

SS Hornet hit 300 TPE last week.
Valtteri Vaakanainen, Gino DiGiannatonio, and Latrell Mitchell each hit the VHLM TPA cap of 250 TPA.
Jungkok and Andrew Su each hit 200 TPE last week.
Gregg Stallion, Chris Hylands, Liam Flaten, Thomas Moore, and Joseph Gainer each hit 100 TPE last week.
Andrew Su hit 50 goals this week.
Jungkok hit 100 points this week.
ACHIEVEMENT CENTRE’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jungkok - RW - 218 TPE @tfong
South Korean winger Jungkok has been a staple in the first round since the start of this series. Cracking 50 goals and 100 points, he has been nothing short of a force with San Diego this season. Jungkok has taken advantage of some uncapped opportunities, as well as having a base of 11 TPE every week. He is built to be a defensively responsible sniper, and achieves that without question. User tfong is now on a third player, and is undoubtedly a big part of this community. A job as a mod earns Jungkok 2 TPE each week, and adds to a handful of reasons he will be such a sought after prospect.

Spartan reacted to Quik in Quarantine Birthday TPE
Hello VHL @Members,
Today is an auspicious occasion, my birthday! As your benevolent leader, I am allowing all members to claim 1 Uncapped TPE, and all you've got to do is post something nice about me! Or don't, I'm not your mother. Point is, I'm giving everyone 1 free TPE, to be claimed by the end of this week.
Enjoy!
Just for @DMaximus: To claim, claim as Uncapped > Other > Other, with the description "Quik is a benevolent god!"

Spartan reacted to Bayley in Should there be AGMs in the VHLM?
Are we thinking about AGMs all wrong? I think the point of AGMs is to develop someone that could be in a managerial position later on in the league. The goal is always to have a steady stream of GMs. Not that I think it's an issue here, what is the big deal of allowing someone to become a bigger member in the community as well as in the locker room? Allowing someone in to see what it looks like behind the scenes, giving them a taste of management can only do good things.
Yes, can everything be done by 1 GM? Sure. But, that's not the point. The point is to have that person ready to take over if there was an open position. You give the person the chance and opportunity to show what they can bring to a team. I always loved bringing in @Viperxhawks19 as he had no experience in the GM area, so bringing him in would bring someone in that is dedicated to a position and would show that they can be a great GM. He learned how to use STHS, the portal, and everything else of what it means to be a GM in the VHL. I feel like that should be the purpose of a AGM.
I go along with a lot of what @Sonnet said, but not necessarily to replace you, but to replace anyone. It's never a bad idea to have a steady stream of people who HAVE experience in being a GM. What better way to get experience than that of an AGM.

Spartan reacted to McWolf in Should there be AGMs in the VHLM?
My main argument for AGMs, especially in the VHLM, is to help with locker room duties. Some of our members are having a hard time figuring things out, and I can't be in the LR 24/7 to help them. Having an official AGM they can tag to help them figure out stuff helps me a lot. They are not necessary, of course, but I salute GMs that do it alone, because recruiting players as soon as they create, building draft lists, and helping all these new players on a daily basis takes a lot of time overall. I did it alone for a season, and I'm glad I got Doom to help me with this stuff now.
I've been an AGM in the VHL too and, apart from the one draft in which I took the wheel because Eno was partying in Spain (I think?), I'll admit my role was fairly limited. Eno himself referred to me as his idea bouncer. Once again, far from necessary, but if it helps the GM from time to time, why not?

Spartan reacted to Doomsday in Should there be AGMs in the VHLM?
You might still have your job if you had hired an AGM.
-
Spartan reacted to Ricer13 in Should there be AGMs in the VHLM?
There has always been an internal debate amongst GMs about whether or not Assistant GMs are a necessary part of a team. Some think the work load is enough for the GM to handle on his own but others would be lost without there AGM’s.
I am a little biased because I am an AGM but I feel we are an absolute need for any VHLM team. The VHL is another story as the workload tends to be a little different. I will focus on the VHLMs need for AGMs in this article.
There are a number of tasks required to run a VHLM team such as recruitment, drafting, trading, etc. A lot of these things a GM can do on their own but it’s the extra little things than an AGM does that make the experience better for everyone. Particularly recruitment and being a locker room presence. Recruitment and retention is the name of the game in the VHLM and being able to build relationships and keep players engaged is something any GM can use help in doing. Having that extra person around to help new players and keep a locker room active is invaluable to any GM.
I would like to dive into this in more detail in a future media spot but for now I just wanted to share my opinion on the subject. What are your thoughts about having AGMs in the league? I am not only interested in the GMs opinion, I would love to hear what players think about having AGMs in the league.

Spartan reacted to Mr_Hatter in Making AGMs a Legitimate Position
So this is reiterating a lot of what I said previously in the discord earlier today. I would like to get some peoples thoughts on this and see if we can brainstorm some ideas of how to make AGMs a legitimate position with semi-standardized duties within the league, both increasing interaction and job satisfaction (ie pay).
The whole reason we are all in this league is because we want to simulate what its like to be in a robust, fully realized sporting league. Complete with contract negotiations, media coverage, simulations, personal relationships, and all that. As such, the goal of our league should be to raise the integration of real-world features as much as possible (within reason). This is one of the reasons I have been an advocate for the Player's Union/Association, although it hasn't panned out properly (but that isn't the point of this post).
From the team management perspective, the only position everyone accepts as needed is the GM. That's honestly fair. I agree that AGMs aren't "needed." A team can function perfectly well without them. However, I still think our goal should be to make AGM's fully integrated and legitimate, if not necessarily "needed." In my opinion, having two dedicated management spots per team is a completely reasonable structure. Considering a full team right now should consist of at least 11 players (6-4-1), having two managers makes sense.
The big arguments against AGMs/AGM pay are that they are:
1) Unnecessary
2) Should be unpaid internships
3) Do not have standardized duties, and therefore do not deserve standardized pay.
I think the solution to this isn't going back and forth about it, I think it is us as a league brainstorming how to make AGMs a legitimate position. Meaning they have standardized duties that help the league/their team in some way. I would love to hear anyone's input on the topic.
Right now my main idea would be creating some new media/point task available to AGMs that involve them doing something to either create media for the team/about the team for the league, or for them to do something that helps them improve their team.
For example, maybe there could be weekly team recaps in which the AGMs summarize what happened for the team, new signings, line changes, or even just a slice of life within the team. Maybe this could be treated as an in-league social media for the given team, IDK. The point is I think this could be a small way of both simulating team/league activity while also giving the AGMs a chance to showcase the work they are putting into their team. If an AGM is really keeping up with everything/promoting LR activity, then they should be able to easily complete this weekly task.
I will leave with a quote from @Proto which I think you should think about.

Spartan got a reaction from Bayley in Alex Letang - First VHLM Season Review
Alex Letang seemingly stumbled upon the VHL the week before the S71 VHLM Expansion Draft after he decided to play in a professional league extremely late. He had no clue that he would get scooped up in the 3rd round of the draft, 26th overall, to the esteemed Las Vegas Aces, or that he'd finish the season playing over 27 minutes a game as the Aces looked to make a deep playoff run. All he needed was a shot, and he delivered on that opportunity given to him by @Poptart, and then rose to the moments that new GM @Proto offered him as well.
After an impressive season as a key member of the Aces' top 4 D-men, Letang finished off the regular season with 10 goals and 46 assists in 72 games, along with a +42 rating. Letang wasn't the most physical defender, but finished the season with 39 hits. Surprisingly, he grew into a strong two-way game in the Aces after being a predominantly offensive defenseman in the major junior leagues, posting 71 blocked shots against the 77 shots on goal he recorded.
Looking ahead, Letang projects to be a low first round pick, or a high second round pick in the S72 VHL draft. At his current level of conditioning, Letang appears to be a prospect that a team can stash in the minors for another season. Letang is sure to be one of the top defensemen in the VHLM if he stays down, but is sure to be a sneakily good 2nd/3rd pair defenseman if he is called up. Anticipate a scouting report for Letang to be released in the near future!

Spartan reacted to Gustav in Town of Salem #3
It's the end of the day, and the town has reached a verdict. Communication gets a lot easier in smaller groups, as @Spartan is not too happy to find out. The two people left not named Spartan (goddamn Athenians) agree to go for the lynch and end it.
He smells quite a bit like hair oil and ravioli, but @DoktorFunk brushes it off. It's time to put this whole situation to bed, once and for all. Spartan dies, and at this point nobody really reacts to it. After all, they've seen everyone else they know get killed off one way or another. Dok and Berocka head over to Spartan's house, where they find @Proto's old handgun, now passed down twice. Spartan was the MAFIOSO.
What happens now, you ask?
It's time for everyone who hasn't gotten an invite to get an invite to the Dead server, should they like to join! Here it is: https://discord.gg/xvGcmQ
GAME OVER! I'm taking a bit of a break after this one, but next one should be fired up in a couple weeks--so stay tuned!

Spartan reacted to Gustav in Town of Salem #3
It's the end of the seventh day, and the town is considerably quieter.
Well, of course it is! Why wouldn't it be? Five people died last night.
Anyway, here we are, we're one night short of a full week, and the jury has reached a unanimous verdict. This time, it's @LastOneUp being killed--likely not the last one up to die, unfortunately, as I would have so much fun making that announcement.
His lynching is about as uneventful as lynchings get, but when his body is examined, a bulletproof vest is found under his jacket. He was a BODYGUARD.
LastOneUp did not leave a will.
It's time for Night 7 to begin!

Spartan reacted to DMaximus in Philadelphia Reapers AGM Hired
The Philadelphia Reapers announce the hiring of an Assistant General Manager, @Spence King!
This newcomer did a fantastic job as GM of Asia, leading them to a silver medal in the S71 WJC tournament. His player Spencer Elsby (https://vhlportal.com/players/playerfocus/2649) has been a model Reaper and should be rocketing up all VHL team’s draft board. @Spence King has displayed a great attitude, passion, and energy. He is not only an asset to the Reaper organization, but the VHL community as a whole.
Welcome aboard @Spence King! Here’s to Reaper greatness!

Spartan reacted to .sniffuM in My take on all this
So before I get into anything here, I just wanted to point out that I've seen Vic's post in CIA's thread about how the BOG is beginning to discuss fixing the crossover issue. That's good. Now that that's out of the way, I'll get into things from my perspective here.
So New York missed the playoffs again despite being a top 8 team in the league, the second straight season this happened and the third time overall this has happened to a team in the last four seasons. I can get into the whole 'it makes no sense to guarantee a group of six four playoff spots when another group of six is vying for four spots in the other conference and odds are pretty good a team can get screwed out of the playoffs' thing that I've already brought up multiple times, but now that the BOG is privy to everything there isn't really a need to do so. But I just wanted to say that it just sucks to see a quarter of my player's career kind of wasted because of this. Now more than ever, anything can happen in the playoffs (except Malmo winning any games this postseason), so having two more shots to bring one home for the bird would have been invaluable.
I don't think it's much of a secret that I'm here primarily because I like the discord. Sure, I care about A Red Guy, but at the end of the day I'm not a hockey person at all and I've voiced my opinion plenty in the past that I find goalie boring as all hell. But I'm up for my team, we've been thrown an insane number of curveballs in my four seasons with New York, really more than I can honestly think of for any team in that stretch of time in my vast sim league history. And I can't help but feel shitty for my teammates that have stuck through all the hardships and have gotten consistently shafted for it. I know we should just git gud, but I'd pose the argument that we did by trading one of the best centers in the league for an inferior winger while moving another winger to learn the center position on the fly, because STHS.
Alright, that's all I got. YMMV
