Hard to believe that back in my first sim leagues, every game was done on NHL! Not just the odd special one.

So much work but a lot more engaging for the members.

TheFlash reacted to GRZ in Draft talk with Mikko
As we all know, the S66 VHL Draft is slowly but surely creeping up on us, we decided to sit down and chat with Mikko, the young fin will experience his 2nd draft, and at the moment of this interview, he is ranked #5 on the Live Draft Rankings.

Do you have any wishes as to where you would land then? Given that some VHL GM might read this in the future?
Not really, I'd love to play for anyone that sees my potential and decides that I'm the right fit in their roster, other than that I haven't really invested time checking which GM's I'd like or not. So I don't have any specific preferences, hopefully this doesn't come back to bite me in the long run *laughs*.
If you were asked to give your "sleeper" picks for the draft, who would you shout-out?
Wow, that's a fun question.....I've always thought that these 3 players would amount to lots in the league, I don't believe people have found their true potential yet, I got to observe them by playing alongside them in the Reapers.
John Frostbeard (@FrostBeard) - A real positivity magnet as I would best describe him, this guy makes sure that everyone is welcomed with positivity and you really can't go wrong with having a chat with him, active in the LR + the work ethic he has is impressive... Definitely a steal for anyone getting him.

Charlie Paddywagon (@DMaximus) - The madlad in VHLM with 90 Defense(yeah its real check it out), that just shows the determination this guy has towards his position, the guy is always providing everyone with stats from previous games and will be a great fit to any team that is looking for a Top2 future d'man.

Hans Gruber (@TheFlash) - The best german player in the draft and a well deserved title, this dude is determined to do some damage in the big league, btw he went from a Scoring Left Winger to a Playmaking Center just to help out his team, that should show you that this player is for real and is ready to help out his team in any way possible. Great teammate + awesome LR presence.

I'd say that you can't really go wrong with any of these 3 picks, have at it VHL GM's and you can thank me later.

    Hey guys,

Noticed that two years ago a bracket was ran, where participants selected what team would win each series and select in how many games, and TPE was given for it. Think it's a great alternative to the same old ways to earn.

I'd be willing to put it together if you guys wanted to bring it back!

TheFlash reacted to Advantage in Nighthawks GM Speaks on Expansion
Good afternoon everyone, this is the new General Manager of the Malmo Nighthawks writing to you today, as I am putting out my first official team statement regarding the Expansion of the league and my return to the GM fold.

First, I would like to speak on the process of how this came to be.  A little while back I was approached about whether or not I had interest in becoming a GM again, which I definitely did, and whether or not I was interested in running an Expansion team.  Back when I was the GM of Cologne, I had been told that I would have the next opportunity to manage a team after the contraction took place, due to how well I had been putting that team together.  Nevertheless, I took a step away from the league as I personally felt that we were making no strides in improving recruiting and there were some pretty scary signs that the league was heading to a pretty dark place.  Specifically, I definitely wasn’t sure the league had much of a future and it wasn’t until I returned just to see how things were, that I realized how far the league had come.

After fully returning to the league I became admittedly addicted again, just like I did way back in Season 18.  It was like a new league with the Portal changes and the incredible recruiting numbers.  I have no doubts that this is the brightest the league has ever been and that’s why I wanted to take over this Expansion team.  I haven’t been this committed to a GM role since I took over New York originally.  I took over Stockholm because there was nobody who wanted it and they were in pretty desperate need of some leadership.  I took over Cologne because no one wanted it after Punkhippie ran it into the ground.  While I never won with Stockholm, we were a competitive threat for quite a while and had some great runs that just didn’t pan out into Continental Cups.  I never got to fully see through my rebuild of Cologne but we went from a team with a disastrous present and future, into one of the brightest futures in the league, just before contraction claimed them.

Nevertheless, that is why I had an interest in coming back.  I want a chance to break all the records, but more importantly turn an Expansion team, a team that I had entire say of logo and name of, and make them into the league’s juggernaut.  Ultimately, once I knew I was taking over I communicated a set of names I was interested in and then was given a huge list of logos to pick from.  Once we had that, we agreed on the colours of the team and the rest is really history.

Going forward I like our chances with one of the strongest drafts in league history ahead of us, and from what I can tell, a very good chance to draft some excellent players in the upcoming Expansion Draft.  I’m thrilled to be in this position again and I am truly happy to say that I feel like this will be my best run yet as a General Manager.

    Regards,

    Christopher Miller
    GM of the Malmo Nighthawks

TheFlash got a reaction from RunnerBert11 in Gruber moving up draft boards
Hans Gruber started as a free agent signing on the freshly minted Philadelphia Reapers. Being thrown a bone by @BladeMaiden , he took the third line centre role and hasn’t looked back since. Quickly moving up the lineup and being nominated captain by teammates, he was able to make a name for himself on a team filled with skilled players.

    And then the hammer fell.

Gruber was one of ten players traded away from the Reapers, and was shipped out to Saskatoon. He’s grabbed the bulls by the proverbial horns, scoring nearly an assist per game and adding 7 goals, he’s up to 31 points in 26 games as a Wild.  Giving him a more than respectable 49 points in 56 total games. He’s made his way back to that first line, and is helping to lead the charge to a postseason birth for his new club.

Wherever Hans ends up, he’ll do what he’s done his whole VHL career. Thrive.

TheFlash reacted to TheLastOlympian07 in Wild playoff chances
The Saskatoon Wild and their playoff chances seem to get smaller and smaller each passing day. The team finally won a game in what seems like forever but the gap to 5th place as grown to 4 points. Maybe I am a skeptic but I almost don't know if we can make the playoffs. I mean I obviously hope to but I'm not holding my breath. Shawnomir himself has gone ice cold not getting much points lately as well. He has dropped to just 79 points in 56 games when he was on such a hot streak in the beginning of the season. He still has 41 goals which is good enough for 5th in the league. Maybe if both Shawnomir and Sask was doing better I'd be more excited but it does seem like a lost cause and maybe GM Peace should have realized this and traded me for what he could. However, I have won a VHLM championship so I shouldn't have much to complain about.

    Mid-Season S66 Mock Draft

     9. Seattle Bears (41-10-4)
    Julius Freeman, Halifax 21st (LW)

    54 games played, 24 goals, 43 assists, 67 points

At the tail end on the 1st round, with their 9th overall draft pick, the Seattle Bears will select Julius Freeman. Freeman fits into a trend that seems rather common in this season’s draft. He’s a big-bodied winger with outstanding offensive potential. His point totals haven’t been off the charts, which may come as a concern to some and therefore dropped him back a few spots, but the ability is there. Freeman’s a very well-rounded player, boasting high-end goalscoring as well as extremely accurate passing, not to mention above-average speed and stick handling abilities which compliment his touch in the offensive zone. Freeman is also a very unselfish player, who will always come back to defend his own net before trying to make himself look good.

    8. Riga Reign (41-12-2)
    Rhye Tyr, Halifax 21st (D)
    54 games played, 7 goals, 47 assists, 54 points

With their first choice, the Bears are going to add to their already impressive defensive core and select the offensive dynamo from Halifax, Rhye Tyr. Selecting Tyr will instantly complete Riga’s top 4. He was the 16th overall pick of the 21st and burst onto the scene, leading them to their current first place position. Tyr has scored five of his seven goals on the powerplay and would complement the second pairing of the Reign nicely. His vision and ability to know where to be at all times, coupled with his tremendous puck handling, allows him to see and feel the game like a true #1 defenceman should. Tyr, while no slouch when it comes to skating, will need to continue to improve in that area if he wants to keep up with the big boys.

     7) Toronto Legion (34-16-7)
             RW Shawnomir Jagr, Saskatoon Wild
             34 games played, 41 goals, 36 assists, 77 points

At number seven, Toronto takes the large, goal scoring wing Jagr. At 6’3, 230 pounds, he’s used his large frame to compliment his well-rounded skill set. Despite his even point totals, this kid is a goal scorer through and through and projects to be just that in the big leagues. He also can puck handle and skate extremely well for a player of his stature, and his defensive positioning is on par with the top players in this class. Jagr could look to work on his playmaking, as being able to dish it out as well as putting the puck in the net is something all teams will look for come draft day.

    6) Helsinki Titans  (32-22-2)
             LW Dimitri Volosenkov, Halifax 21st
             54 games played, 31 goals, 35 assists, 65 points

What’s this? Another member of the 21st? You’d think they were the 1st place team or something! Oh? They are? Okay, carry on… Volosenkov, the only Russian on our list today is not affected by the classic “Russian Factor”. The dude is no slouch in his own end, but that’s not even the best part of his game. With 31 goals on the year, he’s shown a real knack for scoring big goals. He’s also got four game-winners already. A player who comes pre-wired to work hard in his own end and score big goals? Any team would be happy to have him, and the Titans will be the landing spot for this Russian sniper.

    5) New York Americans (27-25-5)
RW Mikko Aaltonen, Las Vegas Aces
            54 games played, 31 goals, 31 assists, 66 points

The Finnish Blur. Aaltonen is one of the fastest skaters on our list (#2 behind Mars) and uses that to his advantage. Starting the season on the lowly Philadelphia Reapers, Aaltonen was moved to Vegas and hasn’t slowed down. With eight goals in as many games in Vegas, it’s a SIN (get it? Vegas? Sin City???) that he didn’t start out here. Look for Aaltonen to keep up the numbers as he helps the Ace’s battle for the final playoff spot. His point totals might not be up there with the HHH’s of the world, but his rise up this draft class has been astronomical and he appears to just be heating up.

     4) HC Davos Dynamo (25-27-4)
             LW Kari Jurri, Houston Bulls
             54 games played, 36 goals, 41 assists , 77 points

The man with the highest scoring (yes, higher than Mars or HHH) comes in at the four spot. He’s an elite goal scorer, whom I believe has a higher ceiling than the one he is at right now. His 22 goals don’t do him justice. He’s an elite goal scorer and will prove that in the VHL. Anytime a player comes into a draft with this high of a scoring rating, GMs will time and time again take a chance on the talent and ignore the numbers.

    3) Vancouver Wolves (24-26-5)
             C Maximilian Kirbsson, Houston Bulls
            54 games played, 36 goals, 48 assists, 84 points

Hey, look! It’s a center! Our first in the draft. Kirbsson, along with his Bulls teammate Jurri, is a can’t miss prospect. He only got the nod over him due to his position being center. Teams love to build around a young centreman. Kirbsson has great vision and is everything you could ask for in a center. Responsible in his own end, playmaker, etc. He’s a five-tool player. Draft with confidence, VHL GMs.

    2) Calgary Wranglers (20-32-3)
             LW Shane Mars, Minnesota Storm
             54 games played, 38 goals, 39 assists, 77 points

These next two players are pretty much as much of a lock as you can get. Mars and HHH each are going to be well over 300 total TPE come draft time and basically be ready to step right into big roles. Some GMs are surprised by Mars not scoring as many points as his rival HHH, but I chalk it up to him playing with so much talent in Minnesota. There are only so many points to go around, and Mars is just a victim of this. His tremendous goal scoring, skating and puck handling makes him a sure-fire lock for #2.

    1) Moscow Menace (7-42-6)
             C Hunter Hearst Helmsley
             54 games played, 46 goals, 55 assists, 101 points

6’3. 250 pounds. 49 years old? Well, that’s about his only fault. This player could be one of the greatest in VHLM history, so it’s no surprise the fans in Moscow are already sporting his namesake on their jerseys. He could score 140 points and I don’t think anyone would be surprised. He’s got it all. Great scoring ability, some passing to back that up, you name it and he’s got it! Also, he’s by far the best faceoff man in the draft, as if the two points per game wasn’t enough to have him picked 1st. The expansion Menace will finally get their hero, as HHH rides to town and helps to soften the blow of what has been a so far awful season.
