BrutalBoost reacted to LastOneUp in Saskatoon Wild's Struggles Continue Despite Strong Defensive Play, Lack of Offense and Consistency Prove Costly
The Saskatoon Wild have had a challenging season in the VHLM so far, struggling to find consistent success. The team currently sits third last in the league with a record of 10 wins, 11 losses, and 1 overtime loss for a total of 21 points. While the team has had some bright spots, including the strong play of Montgomery Burns, they have been plagued by poor offensive output and lack of consistency.

One of the key issues for the Saskatoon Wild this season has been their inability to generate goals. The team has struggled offensively, scoring just 54 goals through 22 games, which is the second-lowest total in the league. Montgomery Burns has been a bright spot, contributing to 22 of the team's goals with 12 goals and 10 assists, but the rest of the team has struggled to generate offense. The team's lack of secondary scoring has put a lot of pressure on Burns and the top line to carry the load.

On the defensive end, however, the Saskatoon Wild have been much more successful. The team is currently ranked third in the league in goals against, having allowed just 59 goals through 22 games. The team's strong defensive play has been led by goaltender Joseph Reed @BrutalBoost, who has been exceptional this season. Reed has a modest save percentage of .902 and a goals-against average of 2.66, both of which are competitive stats in the league. The team has also benefited from strong play from their defensemen, who have done a good job of limiting the opposition's quality chances.

While the Saskatoon Wild's defensive play has been impressive this season, they have struggled in other areas of the game. One of the team's biggest issues has been their lack of consistency. The team has had games where they have played at a high level, but they have also had games where they have struggled to find their footing. The team will need to improve their consistency if they hope to climb up the league standings. At times, they look like the Toronto Maple Leafs of the VHLM with their lack of consistency.

Another area where the team has struggled this season is on special teams. Their power play has been inconsistent, converting at a league low rate on their opportunities. Their penalty kill has also been subpar, allowing their opponents to score on a higher than average number of their power plays. Special teams play is critical in hockey, and the Saskatoon Wild will need to improve in this area if they want to be more competitive.

In conclusion, the Saskatoon Wild have had a challenging VHLM season so far, struggling to generate offense and find consistency. While Montgomery Burns has been a standout performer, the team has lacked secondary scoring and has been plagued by poor special teams play. The team's strong defensive play, led by Joseph Reed, has been a bright spot, but the team will need to improve in other areas if they hope to turn their season around.

    Game 101 Review:
Las Vegas Aces vs. Saskatoon Wild

At first glance, one might see just a game against the two bottom teams in the Western Conference, the Saskatoon Wild and the Las Vegas Aces. But in reality, both teams have been playing fairly well and it’s a battle for a playoff spot even this early in the season. With the season series split evenly 2-2 and every game won by one goal (and one decided in a shootout), Saskatoon decided it was time to change the narrative. In the Wild’s best offensive game thus far (and Las Vegas’ worst defensive performance of the year), Saskatoon jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Vegas got one late in the second period and the game would end in a 7-3 victory for the team from the prairies tying them with 21 points in the standings. Otis Boudreaux Jr @Otis Boudreaux Jr and Volt Sparks @Vo1t each had four points for Saskatoon and Montgomery Burns @LastOneUp continued his hot start scoring his team-leading 11th goal of the season and adding an assist. Goalie Joseph Reed @BrutalBoost picked up his 10th win stopping 24 of 27 shots. Tarro Tsujimoto @Taro Tsujimoto potted two goals and an assist for the Aces in the losing cause.

BrutalBoost reacted to Beketov in Forgive my Sentimentality
    Hello everyone,

Not gonna bother with a members tag on this, if you see it then great, you will be rewarded for that. If you don’t then…. Well why am I writing this because if you don’t see it how can you read this part?

Anyway, today marks 5717 days (that’s 15 years, 7 months, and 26 days if you’re curious) since the VHL opened its doors. What a random number you might say, why does that matter? Well if I do the math, and I have, I was born 5717 days before the start of the VHL. Given that I joined on day one and have been here ever since that means today marks the official day that I have been in the VHL just as long as I was outside of it. Is that a stupid thing to celebrate? Probably but that won’t stop me; so please let me indulge in a bit of sentimentality for a moment.

When the VHL started I had not yet completed high school, I had never had a girlfriend, hell I had never kissed a girl. I was a lonely nerd turning to the internet to find something to do; and I found it. The VHL was not my first sim league, wasn’t even the first one I joined ran by the people who ran it, but it was the first that felt different and felt like it had a good chance of surviving which so few at that point had done. I found a community here. I cannot honestly say that everything went perfectly or that my start in the VHL was without fault; I very nearly left for good within 2 months, but I stayed. I have now not only finished high school but university and going on 10 years working post-schooling. I have now not only had a steady relationship but a wife and two children, a life. All the while the VHL has been there, constantly evolving with the times sure but present. Over 5 years ago I took up the mantel of commissioner. I did it not because I thought I was necessarily the best person for the job but because I thought the league needed something, it was in trouble and I didn’t want to see it fail. I like to think that in these 5 years of growth I have at least stalled that failure.

5717 days likely means nothing to any of you, just as that paragraph likely means nothing to any of you, but it means something to me. This league, this place, this community has been a standard in my life for longer than most anything else. I’m not going anywhere right now, that’s not what this is, but I did want to mark the occasion because this league does mean a lot to me.

So if you’ve made it this far feel free to take 5 uncapped TPE for your troubles, on me. I’m not sure the insane total I’ve had over the years (probably over 10k by now) so 5 for everyone that I bored with this story should suffice as a thank you for being my weird extended internet family.

BrutalBoost reacted to Daniel Janser in a tale of two Brothers // ProAm Tournament
    Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg
    (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats)

As is tradition at this point of the off-season, Daniel has joined the ProAm Tournament, this time dressing for the ToonSquad. He is joined in this team amongst others by Wranglers forwards Gonçalves and Wolanin. It is the first time that Janser joins this reputable show tournament as one of the top players and the topscorer of the VHL. Accordingly, the expectations are high for the ToonSquad.

So far, the team could unfortunately not live up to the hype. This may have been due to lack of defenders in the set up. Janser then offered to field as back, as he has done in a previous iteration of the ProAm. However, the management were able to sign two more defenders, one of which is a former Calgary prospect in Babushka. While still being the lowest seeded team, their record has improved since the additional defenders joined them. The ToonSquad went from a 1-8-1  record and a total of three measly points to a 5-12-3 record with thirteen points.

Daniel is number one in face-offs won, and is in the top ten for checks dished out as well as received, penalty minutes served and fights involved in.

Remarkably, but by no means surprisingly, Gonçalves and Wolanin have more goals, and equal or more points scored than the Swiss Center respectively.

The ToonSquad odds to still make the playoffs are intact, and it would not surprise if Daniel would pick up his production and influence on the game.

Here are his stats for this off-season event:
    20gp,  6g, 15a, 21pts, -3, 62 PIM, 74 hits, 7sb, 1ppg, FO% 64.76

We shall revert with news as they develop.

With all the excitement already overwhelming me, from winning the cup with Rome and making it to the finals for the final time, to finally being promoted to VHL GM, I didn't think the news would or could get much better, but low and behold... it did. Not long after Rome won, I ended up with some deja vu as my VHLM team (the Saskatoon Wild), faced a similar finals dilemma, being down 3-1 and possibly being knocked out at any moment. It was a crazy feeling really, being a rookie goalie for a team and making it to the finals was wild already (no pun intended) but now to be in the finals, same exact scenario... craziness. The sim's happened once a day, and slowly but surely we began to chip away at the games, winning to still be down 3-2, then a miracle win to tie up the series, and now once again the deja vu hit even more... a game 7 with the possibility of reverse sweeping the opposing team, but it couldn't happen twice... right? Wrong. The Wild would come back to win the game 6-3 and win the series to once again make me a double champion (one as GM, one as player).

This all happened back when I was with Miami, where I ended up winning the cup as GM with the team and then with Seattle as a player. I couldn't be more proud of @BrutalBoost and the whole Wild franchise for what we were able to accomplish. I haven't been in the M for quite a few seasons now as player and around 4 seasons as GM, so needless to say this was such a refreshing win to be back in the place where I started my whole 'GMing' career. Happy to send off Boost with a cup win too

Ok, I was just watching Steve’s Hat Picks and saw Patty Kane score from behind the net and this question popped into my head. If you played hockey, what would be your most memorable highlight? That’s the question.

Since I asked, let me start off. My Junior year high school I started to play Men’s Hockey with local park district. I was not allowed to play high school hockey because I was 18. I never been held back in school. The park district had 2 leagues. A “H League,” which was a house league that hat 4 levels H1-H4, and a “C League,” competitive league, C1-C3. The director of hockey placed me in H1, the higher level house league. I played for 10 games with them, scoring over 23 goals. Then the director though I was doing to good and decided to throw me into a C1 team that no one thought will make playoffs. I wasn’t doing as well, only scoring 5 goals in 17 games. But that team made it to playoffs just barely and we actually made it to the finals. The finals were best out of 5 and we were tied 2-2. In the final game, with 3 minutes left in the game we were loosing 6-5 and we were on a penalty kill. The team captain called a time out and out me into the game, the puck draw was in the offensive zone for us. We won the draw and a just straight blasted the puck past the goalie, tying the game. 1 minute before end of game one of our defensemen gets a penalty. The other team calls the time out. The captain tells everyone he is going to pull the goalie and I will be going in. We won the face off and the defense dumped the puck. I get out there and bust my ass to get to the puck. I didn’t make it but I managed to strip the puck off of the defensemen and dump it back in. After chasing after it, it was just me and 3 defensemen behind the net, we were right by the trapezoid area and none of my team mates were there. So, I decided to send it and hope for the best. Some how it went in and no one but me saw that, so I was the only one celebrating until ref noticed it and blew the whistle. We ended up winning because of that. So, that was my most memorable highlight.

The following season I shattered a Talus bone on my right ankle and never play again. That was 8 years ago.

Saskatoon Advances Following Wild Game Six

PHILADELPHIA - When you start a potential series-clinching game with one of your players recording a natural hat trick in the first ten minutes of the game, you'd have to be feeling pretty confident about your odds of advancing. However, despite the Saskatoon Wild getting said natural hat trick from Chase Taylor @NyQuil, it was instead the Philadelphia Reapers who took a 4-3 lead into the first intermission, with a potential dagger of a shorthanded goal by Ammon Tutankhamun @Gooningitup providing the tiebreaking tally, setting the stage for a wild night of 80's hockey.

Saskatoon captain Brian Kowalski @Wheaties provided the tying goal just four seconds into the second period, with Jeff Buffy @Strider breaking the tie with his 6th goal of the playoffs later in the period, with the 5-4 lead for Saskatoon the score at the second intermission. After a game filled with scoring, both Augustus Kennedy @InstantRockstar
and Red Gaming @Lilpfigher combined for over a period of scoreless hockey, until Bob Chicoine @PoignardLeclerc11 spoiled that with the tying goal for Philadelphia late in the third period, forcing overtime. However, we did not need to wait long, as Eric White @ErictheFish picked a great time to score his first goal of the playoffs, burying the game and series-winning goal at the 4:11 mark to send the Saskatoon Wild back to the Founder's Cup Finals for the first time since Season 72.

The Founder's Cup Finals will feature the Saskatoon Wild and the Houston Bulls, who defeated the Mexico City Kings after a dominant showing in Game Seven of their series.

BrutalBoost reacted to thadthrasher in Napoleon Dynamite - First Taste of Professional Hockey
Not long after announcing his interest in playing for the VHLM, General Manager @BrutalBoost of the Saskatoon Wild reached out to Dynamite, expressing interest in adding him to the roster. Of course, without much thought, and out of pure excitement, Dynamite jumped on the opportunity. He was immediately placed as the 3rd line center and began doing work. Playing only 14 games, it was clear that Napoleon had some work he still needed to do. In that time he only put up 2 points, which happened in his first two games. To this point, he has not been much of a producer. However, he has won over half of his face offs, ending the season with 51.30% FO average. Dynamite learned quickly that his natural talent will not be enough to make him great. He'll have to put in a lot more work if we hopes to make an impact on the ice. His biggest hope right now is to help Saskatoon win it all in the playoffs and mark himself as a valuable asset for next season.
