Why is your favourite VHL team your favourite?

Recommended Posts

The question is, what VHL team do you love and why is that? I already have a .com this week but I need another affiliate, and something that crossed my mind is that I have teams that I love in the VHL that I bet others don’t feel the same way about.

Teams I love are:

Seattle Bears - the first and only team I ever won a continental cup with back in S83. I really respect and admire @Banackock since while I was first getting into the league, especially starting to GM in the VHLM, he was a massive mentor and taught me so many amazing things. He drafted my second player too which was a really cool thing for me.

Malmo Nighthawks - Malmo has made me realize that I really love being an AGM, and it’s especially cool because my last player retired from this team! @LucyXpher joined my Houston Bulls back in S92 and I am so happy to be working with her in Malmo now.  The entire vibe of this team seems magical not only with Lucy in charge, but also when @KaleebtheMighty was running the show, two extremely solid GMs for this organization.

Los Angeles and Calgary are teams I have played for in the past and I don’t feel I grew as great of a connection as I could have in each organization. Luckily I’m back in LA and hoping for a good run here. @InstantRockstar traded my first player away to Seattle where I won a cup, so I’m hoping to return the favour and win one for him now! With Calgary, maybe I can find my way back to you someday and honestly I wouldn’t be mad about it. @leandrofg is an amazing GM and was always great to play for, our team just didn’t find the success while my player was there unfortunately. It was actually pretty funny to me that once I got traded away, the team started firing on all cylinders! So maybe it was a me problem there lol. Either way, these two teams were great, just don’t fully have my heart.

Funny to say this but Prague truly has my heart as the first team I played for in the VHL but never really manged to really challenge for Cups even though we had good teams. Was sad when I beat them in the finals with Vancouver but that was short lived!! LOL!! Also happy to see them finally win a Cup a few season later.

Of Course I have a soft spot for Vancouver since I have been the AGM here now for 14+ seasons!! Now with my second team. Player.

Few other teams I respect but since I haven`t played for them it is a bit tough to really know how I feel for them. Seattle, Moscow, & Malmo all due to huge respect for the Managers!! Being a bit unfair as well as since I have respect also for all the GM in the league but more connected to these three I guess!!

I don't really have favorite teams yet in the VHL.  I played a whole career with London and won a cup but so much of that was because of Jacob at the helm and people like @Aimee @JCarson and @VattghernCZ being in the LR.

There are teams I'd like to play for for sure.  Malmo for one because you and Lucy would be a ton of fun to hang around with and because the EU teams I think are more exotic to me.  Prague because @TetricideI think would bring good vibes.  I live in NA and there aren't any teams in places I like so I don't have any major destinations there other than Vancouver because @Frank seems chill and @Subject056 played there!

Malmo was always number one for me, basically since day 1.  I joined the Bulls in the VHLM since I'm from Houston, but when I looked at all the VHL teams, Malmo always stood out to me as my favorite.  As a Sharks fan, enamoured by the colors and the logos since I was 5 years old, it was definitely an aesthetic thing at first.  But so many great people who played for Malmo really solidified it as my favorite VHL franchise.

Besides that-- and before my player played for those teams-- Riga and Prague were also high up on my list of teams I was hoping I could be a part of at some point.  So I couldn't have asked for better teams to be a part of for my first player in the VHL.

There are so many otherwise that are really awesome too though, and it's always the people and GMs, like others have said, that really make them appealing and interesting to join.  Teams like LA, Vancouver, Calgary and Moscow would also be very high on my list to join if I ever had the chance :)

For me it is Calgary (I guess no big surprise here) as it was the franchise who spent a first round pick on my first gen player. And I think their logo is one of the coolest. Having amazing people like @Ricer13, @Phil, @leandrofg and @jacobcarson877 and many, many others in the LR just added to this experience.

WE LOVE YOU TOO, BUDDY!! cheers GIF

I’d say Calgary is pretty obvious for me. I’ve had a few players go through there now and I managed the team for quite a while. I’ve met a lot of great people through that team as well.

I've had players in the VHL for 45 seasons including this one. Which has equaled 24 seasons on Seattle and Davos alone... and 21 for everybody else combined (Cologne, Calgary, Riga, Toronto, New York, D.C., Helsinki). So I've got one NA and one EU team to be connected to, which is nice.

Seattle because all they do is win and winning is fun

If I wanted tot all outside of that, which GM do I like playing for? Hmm @v.2 has been good so far with Riga. They’re mostly all the same.

, but in saying that, there’s been quite a few stinkers too :P

If we’re talking which GM’s do I think are best at their roles? Hedge, Frank, Spartan, Jacob, ADV, Victor, Alex, Higgins, Beav. Jubo was good in HSK.

People likely wondering “where is devise?” But for me, there’s no skill in selling all your shit/picks/youth and winning, then leaving the team a shit fire for the next person once the winning phase is done and the actual work begins. Anyone can take a team and sell all the picks blah blah.

I truly loved the @McWolfran meta era united with Cole Pearce and @Moon team was cut down too soon

That one year where we had 3 rookies over 100 pts was glorious

Miss you, bub! Bobandy also had his two best seasons in Malmo - maybe I'm not that great at GMing. 🤔

Helsinki will always have a special place in my heart, though I conveniently talked about it at length in a recent Media Spot

Aside from that, though, I've always regarded the s76 Chicago Phoenix as absolutely magical. That locker room of @Quik, @fishy, @Nykonax, @gorlab, @solas, etc was easily the most fun I've ever had with a group of people in the VHL. There were genuinely no weak leaks on that team personality wise, and I wonder frequently if I'll ever get to be a part of a core like that again

Moscow was fun because @Victor ran the team and hated me and @Beketov and @Josh ended up on the team too and hated me too, so it was fun in the end!

I guess my favorite would be Moscow simply because it's the team that has the first player I actually put any effort in. Least favorites are easier simply because spreading negativity is fun

And you're still there, Stockholm syndrome much?

I don't really think I could tell you why the Vasteras Iron Eagles were my favorite; I think I actually enjoyed them being the "joke" team of the league, because that only fueled my desire to win with them even more.
