    @VSN

In case you missed it here is the complete first round mock draft published last week on VSN:
    1.01 - Phil Marleau - C
    1.02 - Bjorn Scoringsson - W
    1.03 - Hulk Hogan- D
    1.04 - Aston Martin - C
    1.05 - Rayz Funk - G
    1.06 - ACL TEAR - W
    1.07 - Lincoln Tate - D
    1.08 - Boone Jenton - D
    1.09 - Michael Gary Scott - C
    1.10 - Acyd Burn - W

    2.01  – Seattle Bears - W|23 – L|40 – OTL|9
Previous Picks: Marleau (1), Funk (5), Jenton (8)

The Pick: Boris the Forest - Center - Mexico City Kings @chillzone

Analysis: As I highlighted in my first round mock draft, the Seattle Bears own this draft after shedding off veteran talents to stock up on draft picks in their rebuild. This is a pivotal draft for the future of the Bears. In the first round mock, they addressed all three positions with Marleau, Funk and Jenton. With the first pick in the second round, they add a very talented center in Boris the Forest. Boris is easily a first round talent, but he slightly slips into the early second round here. In the regular season for Mexico he put up an impressive 33 goals and 33 assists, fourth best in points on the team. Seattle walks away from this draft with two premier centers; a rugged two-way leader in Marleau and a dynamic offensive scorer in Boris the Forest. A huge haul for Seattle.

    2.02  – Malmo Nighthawks - W|28 – L|41 – OTL|3
    Previous Picks: Scoringsson (2)

The Pick: Wrike Chyrnoble - Goalie - Mexico City Kings @Savoire Faire

Analysis : Back-to-back Kings get selected here as goaltender Wrike Chyrnoble comes off the board. Chrynoble was a rock for the Kings in the regular season finishing with a 41-25 record and a 2.24 GAA. Malmo here is in a position where they have a starting goaltender in Johnny Carison, but he may have reached his ceiling in the VHL and is beginning to get up there in age. This is an opportunity for Malmo to grab the number two goalie available in this draft behind Funk, give him a year or two to develop and have a young franchise goaltender. Wrike has a solid frame at 6'4 and 220 pounds and is widely regarded as a very athletic goalkeeper. The former 9th overall pick in the VHLM finds himself a home in Malmo.

    2.03  – Moscow Menace - W|26 – L|38 – OTL|8
    Previous Picks: Hogan (3)

The Pick: Derek England - Defense - Mexico City Kings @PenKnight

Analysis: Make that three straight Kings draft picks here at the top of the second round as Derek England hears his name called by Moscow. England has been one of the more under the radar prospects in this draft class and is at the top of the second tier of defenseman behind Hogan, Tate and Jenton. Statistically, England had a very solid year with 59 points in 72 games for the Kings, which was also Top-10 amongst all VHLM defenseman. Moscow has a handful of promising young stars on offense with the likes of Jaguar and Volshenko and they add to pillars on the back end here with Hogan in the first and England in the second. England is described as a solid two-way defenseman who can move the puck very well, but also is very responsible defensively. The defense is set for the future in Moscow.

    2.04  – Riga Reign (via TOR) - W|42 – L|23 – OTL|7
    Previous Picks: Scott (9)

The Pick: Dan Gles - Center - Mississauga Hounds @No_Dangles

Analysis: Riga has one of the most talented rosters in the VHL headlined by  Podrick Cast, Edwin Preencarnacion, Ryan Kastelic and Kallis Kirketers in net. At this point in the draft, Riga will look to take the best player available and that is Dan Gles of the Hounds. Gles has been rising up draft boards over the past week, according to VHL scouts and also put together a very impressive season for the Hounds. His 96 points were good for Top-6 in the VHLM and was second in scoring on his team behind only Callum MacElroy. He plays all areas of the ice well and was never really known for his goal scoring until he came to the VHLM. Despite adding Michael Gary Scott, who projects now as a center in the VHL, Riga is happy to select Gles to develop a young core down the middle.

    2.05  – Riga Reign (via NY) - W|42 – L|23 – OTL|7
Previous Picks: Scott (9), Gles (14)

The Pick: Greg Eagles - Goalie - San Diego Marlins @Greg_Di

Analysis: This is a tough pick for Riga on the projeced back-to-back here in the second round. It goes without saying that they have an elite goaltender in Kallis Kirketers who is a life blood of their backend. However, drafts are about building out that prospect pool for the future and not always necessarily focusing on immediate needs. Riga looks at their draft board here and sees a young promising goalie in Greg Eagles and cannot pass up the opportunity. Eagles is right there with Chyrnoble as the second best goalie in this draft and I would not be surpised to see him go before him. Eagles had 39 wins and a 2.61 GAA for a good Marlins team in S66. While he lacks the size that Chyrnoble has (6'1 180lbs), he makes up for it with his positioning. He always manages to find himself in the shooting lanes and square to the puck. Riga brings in a potential star goalie of the future here with the 15th overall pick.

    2.06  – Vancouver Wolves – W|39 – L|29 – OTL|4
    Previous Picks: TEAR (6)

The Pick: Michael Johnson - Goalie - Halifax 21st  @fonziGG

Analysis: The run on goalies continues here in the second with the third goalie being selected in the first six picks of the round. Vancouver takes a long, hard look at a few other players here, but with Funk, Chyrnoble and Eagles off the board they take Johnson from Halifax. The Wolves roster three goalies including the talented veteran in Roger Sterling. They also used the 14th overall selection in S65 goaltender Joe Nixon, who hasn't fully developed as they initially hoped for. With Sterling having a couple seasons left before retirement, the Wolves snag Johnson and hope he can be the guy that Nixon was supposed to be. Johnson stands at 6'3 and 210 pounds and split time in the cage with fellow S67 draft prospect Thorvald Gunnarsson. Gunnarsson statistically edged out Johnson in terms of save percentage and GAA, but Johnson had three shutouts to Gunnarsson's zero. Scouts seemingly are pretty high on both prospects, but give the edge to Johnson as they see him with slightly higher upside at this point.

    2.07  – Seattle Bears (via DAV) - W|23 – L|40 – OTL|9
Previous Picks: Marleau (1), Funk (5), Jenton (8), Forest (11)

The Pick: Henrik Zoiderberg - Left Wing - Mexico City Kings @HenrikZoiderberg

Analysis: Seattle continues plucking talent in this draft class, this time with one of my favorite prospects in Henrik Zoiderberg. The Swedish winger burst onto the scene early in the season and ultimately put up a respectable 27-28-55 stat line for the talented Kings. In my May 20th article, I highlighted Zoiderberg as a potential sleeper in this draft class.  Zoiderberg is a very smooth, playmaking winger who can also be relied on defensively. He has really been developing his goal scoring ability as the season went on and his 27 goals reflects that work.  When I reached out to a few VHL scouts, they raved about him as a player and person off the ice. He is seemingly loved in the Kings locker room. Sticking Zoiderberg on a line in Seattle with former teammate Boris the Forest can be something special to watch in Seattle.

    2.08  – Seattle Bears (via CAL) - W|23 – L|40 – OTL|9
    Previous Picks: Marleau (1), Funk (5), Jenton (8), Forest (11), Zoiderberg (17)

The Pick: Guy LeGrande - Defense - Halifax 21st @Steve

Analysis: Shockingly, Seattle is back on the clock here with the eighth pick in round two. To summarize the draft so far for Seattle, they have picked two centers, one goalie, one defenseman and one winger; addressing needs all over the ice. With this pick, they go back to the back end and pick up Guy LeGrande from Halifax. LeGrande was a mid-season pickup for Halifax, playing in only 49 games, but had an immediate impact. He produced 7 goals and 35 assists which is just off a point per game pace. LeGrande is an offensive-minded forward with great puck skills and a rocket of a shot from the blue line. When I sat down with the 21st head coach, he could not stop talking about the work ethic and character of this kid. Definitely a prospect to keep an eye on in this draft.

    2.09  – HC Davos (via RIG) - W|37 – L|27 – OTL|8
Previous Picks: Martin (4), Tate (7)

The Pick: Trevor Van Lagen - Center - Halifax 21st @VanCanWin

Analysis: With their third pick of this draft, Davos selects another riser in Trevor Van Lagen. The former 84th overall pick of the Season 66 VHLM Dispersal Draft proved to be an incredible steal for Halifax at that slot as he eclipsed a point per game pace in his first VHLM season (28-46-74). Van Lagen is a big, strong offensive-minded center standing at an impressive 6'5 and 215 pounds. He possesses some of the best natural goal scoring abilities in this draft class amongst centers and once he tightens up his skating, he could be an absolute force in the VHL. Davos here cleans up with two potential elite centers in Aston Martin and Trevor Van Lagen.

    2.10  – Seattle Bears (via HEL) - W|23 – L|40 – OTL|9
    Previous Picks: Marleau (1), Funk (5), Jenton (8), Forest (11), Zoiderberg (17), LeGrande (18)

The Pick: Scott Greene - Center - Mississauga Hounds @DoktorFunk

Analysis: It's only fitting that we round out this second round mock draft with the Seattle Bears who will have selected seven players in the first two rounds after this pick. Seattle looks at their board and goes with the best available player here in Scott Greene of the Hounds; their third true center selected in this draft. Like Van Lagen, Greene proved to be a very good steal for the Hounds as he was selected 66th overall in the VHLM Dispersal Draft. In the regular season, he produced 27 goals and 20 assists in his 72 games played. He also added two points in the Hounds 5 playoff games. The slightly undersized centerman possesses great scoring and skating abilities that will translate to the VHL very well. He also prides himself on his faceoff ability, which is likely at the top of this class. Overall, Greene is a rock solid prospect and has been consistently developing throughout the season. He joins the immense Seattle Bears draft class at the end of the second.

    1. Nothing. The only thing I need is to find perfect lines to win the championship. I don't plan to make any moves in the trade deadline.
    2. Patience. Nowadays it's harder to crack the top 6 for forward or top 4 for D. And that could be discouraging for a youngin who was tearing apart in the minors, but can't do the same in the big league due to playing time.
    3. Winning and draft. Trade talks and other stuff are fine and thing, but drafting is more exciting for me, especially when the draft is deep.
    4. As I said earlier, patience. Also, that was said a lot of times but - don't hesitate to ask more experienced members about anything. How this league works, about builds (more like for these who still are new to STHS) and other stuff. And don't burn yourself out even if it will make you to earn less TPE.
    5. Riga for very obvious reasons.
*as a non biased armchair expert - Helsinki and Calgary looks good. Riga should put up a good fight and there is a chance we cam win. Davos might be a serious dark horse if they will reach their full potential.''

Well interesting opportunity that I would like to apply for.  While some know me here in a couple different ways, I currently serve as an AD in the SBA and then recently stepped down as a GM in the EFL after winning the S12 Championship with the Wisconsin Brigade.  I have been a part of many locker rooms and always have had a firm belief that an organizations success is determined by the health of a locker room.
While I have noted my recent GM experience, I do also have experience in the SHL.  I am transparent seeing as we all seemingly are connected in one way or another across these sites.  Almost two years ago now, I was removed as a GM from the Portland Admirals for salary cap circumvention.  Since then, I have held various positions within the league including serving as the Assistant GM for Montreal before stepping down recently.  Primarily I bring up my SHL past for my extensive experience with SimonT and the understanding that the importance of our leagues is derivative of a users first experience... and it all starts in the VHLM.   I appreciate the consideration.

    1) The WJC teams have been selected - who are you rooting for if you're not on a team?
Canada because my rival and friend D.Draper is playing there.

    2) Who do you expect to show up & do well in the WJC? Will they win?
USA because they failed so many times in the past and I hope they win at least the Silver medal.

    3) We've had a few recent losses, mostly OTLs, against the Titans. What are they doing better than us?
The matchups aren't perfect so they are exploiting us.

    4) Malmo dropped from 2nd/3rd to 7th over the last couple of sims. Is this a bad set of sims, or is there something going on?
It's this point of the season where Malmo isn't an experienced team to play a whole season.

    5) Most players/agents said the upcoming Season 67 draft class wouldn't be as large as S66's, saying S66 was a 'flash in the pan.' S67 currently (well, as of Friday) has 87 members that have earned TPE. Any new players you're excited to hear from in the future?
I am excited for Wrike Chyrnoble  because I know he will become a great goalie in this league, especially for Riga. He will be a steal for us, I am certain.

    6) How much will the VHL need to expand (in a few seasons maybe) if S67 and S68 are comparable to S66? Are you worried about being taken away by an expansion team?
I am already playing for a VHLM expansion team but it isn't that bad, but I hope to play with Riga and win multiple cups with them.

Savoire Faire got a reaction from gorlab in Chyrnoble Still Without Representation
Mexico City, MX - As the seasons continues forward Wryke Chyrnoble continues to surge forward as the Mexico City Kings continue to bounce around in the middle tier of the league standings.  As the time ticks, the continuous search for representation grows more and more active.

"The goalie position is an a unique one.  There aren't nearly as many of opportunities for goaltenders in this league as there are for players skating out.  It is a choice I made back when I made the decision to switch to the position.  There is alot that goes into it... and while people keep asking what are my next steps my focus remains on doing my job in Mexico City."  Chyrnoble went in to explaining.

"My future will be determined by my play.  I've hear alot of talks about brands and the upcoming draft.  I don't really have much knowledge on either, but I do know as the opportunity presents itself I will make the most out of it.  Right now, should I assume, I will be starting on the bench in a couple seasons if I'm not in the Minors.  It is the passage of a goalie's career and it doesn't really phase me as I do have alot that I need to develop and move forward with."

Pundits across the league at times questions the longevity of the netminder, as the likes of Rayz Funk clearly has surged ahead in growth.  Signaling commitment stands out when a draft approaches and it will take consistency on Chyrnoble's behalf to build on his draft stock as the deciding days approach.

"I'm excited at the potential... I'm excited for this league.  I know I will be a solid piece of any organization's puzzle and be the backbone to lean on.  Leading in progression is great if they are progressing in the right focus.  I think my stats and performances this far have proven that I'm on the right path.  I need more time before I make any kind of jump... But right now my focus are my current teammates.  Pieces will fall into place and my position in either league will grow."

Currently the Kings sit in sixth place in the standings as the have recently started to find an offensive spark that seemingly has escaped them repeated early in the season.  Right now, the Kings have given up the 3rd fewest in goals against which has played a large role in the team's early success.  With games against Halifax and Mississauga on the horizon, the Kings defense will surely be tested, while the offense can have an opportunity to prove their growth.

Time continues to tick on the season and as the standings continue to develop, with Mexico City sitting in the sixth spot they will have control of their destiny moving forward should they continue to progress thru the cycle of improvement... and when will the young goaltender reach that TPE cap?  And get @gorlab that elusive recruitment pay... story lines galore in this season.  Only time will tell.

    3) What made you switch from selling paper to hockey this late in life?
I think the rush from selling paper got old. My father, Micheal Gary Scott, lived and breathed paper. I think he was the paper guy that liked hockey and I am the hockey guy that likes paper.

    4) Jim and Pam or Dwight and Angela? Why?
PB & J all day. D & A are too dysfunctional and really creepily messed up - also beets and cats don't work together IMO.

Top half. We're off to a pretty good start for an expansion team but are going up from here.

    6) What did you think about the last season of GoT?
It was ok. I didn't mind it until the last episode. Shit was wild. THings got out of hand. I feel like they were forced to write a poor ending and the people have spoken widely about this. Nothing will change though. It was a good show overall, the ending left a bad taste in your mouth, this is like most shows however. The last few seasons of the Office were trash not gonna lie.

Although investors never had a doubt, nobody could foresee the future of ice hockey taking off in Mexico City the way that it has for the inaugural season of the Mexico City Kings! The team has played 12 games so far this season and are holding their own in 8th place with a 6-5-1 record. By all measures this team could easily be 0-12. They are playing with a skeleton crew of a squad and players are averaging 28 to 32 minutes of ice time per game. This is unusual but management hopes to add new additions to the team in the near future to ease the burden. Interestingly, the Kings are getting outshot 3 to 1 on average per game but still have managed a winning record!

The interesting note isn't as much as the teams play or lack thereof but the real success seems to be the madness to get into the new arena to actually watch one of the games. The Kings have captured the heart of the people of Mexico City and the ones that don't get into the arena crowd the nearby street and lot outside the doors. One could say the outside party is just as exciting as being indoors. Perhaps even more when you compare the cost of tickets. The Kings have put up three areas around the arena where fans can watch on the big screen and if they brought folding chairs they are welcome to set up camp. Trash is becoming an issue and the Kings Organization does not want to close the outside areas so they have asked for volunteers to help with the problem. The good news is that they raffle off 40 tickets to the volunteers for the next home game so the volunteer work can pay off. The powers that be have made strict regulations that only the person who won their ticket can enter to that particular seat. This is so that teams will not try to resale the freebies on the secondary market. The Kings organization has stated that if the winner can not attend the game they won they can release the ticket back into the pool for someone else to enjoy.

The Kings have a five year plan for the team to build up from the expansion draft and expect good things in the near future. With the fan support behind them the organization is doing everything in their power to be competitive. Hopefully the rookies can get their TPE up in the near future and some acquisitions can be made to help boost stats like shots. The shot differential is something that needs to change as well as player ice time. Coaches have said those are the two main problems right now. If it wasn't for Goaltender Wrike Chyrnoble the Kings would be up the river without a paddle so to speak. The scariest thought is if Wrike Chyrnoble gets injured as the Kings have no back up goalie for the time being. We here at this magazine can only hope and pray the Kings can fix these problems in the very near future as we are all enjoying this new found love to our city!

Savoire Faire got a reaction from fonziGG in Return to the Wrike; Mexico City shows promise
As we march on in the season, Wrike Chyrnoble gets a moment to sit down with media to give a bit of feedback in regards to his experience so far with Mexico City.  Currently sitting at 8-7-1, the Kings have had an interesting path so far.  Leading the league in goals against, many would be looking to see them near the top... But just as dominant as the defense has been, the offense has been the opposite.   "They will find their rhythm, until then I will keep doing the job I was brought here to do.  I'm finding answers to facilitate my own game, always searching for a way to better my team." Chyrnoble noted.   The young netminder, only 16 years old, has taken the season by storm and analysts constantly remind everyone to not pay attention to the wins and losses.   "Wrike has been impressive in his ability to keep the Kings in a position to win most nights.  That's all you can do as a goaltender, especially when you have a stagnant offense.  You have to grind and you have to prevent games from being blown open when the shots are in fact that way." Dolph D'Attimore explained to the VHL Standard.   Wrike leads the league at a blistering .932 save percentage this season, yet still has only compiled a 8-7-1 record with 3 shutouts.  The prospect of a 16 year old setting the bar surprises many, with the exception of one... himself.   "I'm confident back there.  I'm feeling good.  Most of all my team believes in me.  It takes a team effort to compete at this level.  All of us have the aspiration to get to the next level and it is about taking advantage of the opportunity at hand.  Right now I feel like we are all in a race to get to this next step.  The Kings will figure out our offensive woes and bring this full circle."   Currently the Kings sit tied for 7th in the league after a recent comeback that came up just short to the 1st place Ottawa Lynx.  After trailing through the first two periods by a score of 3-0, the Kings found their groove as Boris the Forest potted two in back to back shifts mid-way through the 3rd.  Unfortunately, Mexico City quieted down and fell short on their valiant effort.   Boris the Forest has been the catalyst this season leading the team in both goals and assists, while Aleksander Rodriguez and Michael Scott are the only other two players with 5 or more goals on the season.  To add perspective, the league leading Lynx has 9 different players with 5 or more goals heading into our weekend slate.    On the docket for the weekend, Mexico City will face off against the Las Vegas Aces, who currently sit 9th in the league.  Next up will be the Minnesota Storm, who are the other team tied with the Kings.  It will be a test for sure as we continue to reach the mid-season grind and continue to siphon out the quality of competition within the league.  With the team itself being young, it is only a matter of time to show whether their desire is to improve or fall to the depths of the league in their inaugural season.
