    It’s a rare rainy evening in Los Angeles, California. A blacked out car pulls up to the back entrance of the Staples Center. Two men get out, both are dressed to the nines. They walk calmly through the rain proceeding to the doors held open by two large bouncers. Inside of the arena, there are nearly 20,000 people waiting patiently. They are all in attendance for the S80 Victory Hockey League Hall of Fame induction ceremony. A yearly event, it sees the best of the best being immortalized forever in the Victory Hockey League history books. Some players, like Matthias Chouinard, wait a lifetime. Others, are lucky enough to still have ice on their skates when they get the call. The two players being inducted today were locks before they even played their final games. Their eight season careers were filled with competition between each other, both having success and failures along the way. We go live to them now, awaiting the green light to take the stage…

       “You ready for this, man?” asked one of the two players to the other.
       “Ready as I’m going to be”, said the other.

       The producer rushed into the green room, “You’re up first!” he pointed to the larger of the two men.

    The larger man walked out and stood near the entrance to the stage, just out of sight of the watching crowd. The man inducting him was reading a well thought out speech.

       “When you think of a defenceman that can do it all, this is the player who comes to mind. He not only was an elite shutdown player in his own end, finishing his career as the all-time leader in shots blocked and top ten in hits, he was a force on the offensive side of the rink. In 576 games, he scored 175 goals and added 362 assists. He also had some hardware with those numbers, winning three Sterling Labatte Throphies, and one Jake Wylde. He also captured the sweet glory of winning the Continental Cup, earning playoff MVP honours. Allow me to introduce…HUGH JASS!!”

       “Lastly, but definitely not least, another defenceman. One who had arguably one of the best careers that we’ve seen. Bursting onto the scene as a rookie, this player had a record number of points by a rookie defenceman. From there on out, he followed the path of many offensive defencemen who have come before him. But somewhere along the path, he became the trailblazer, not the follower. Smashing records left and right, he won an astounding seven Jake Wylde trophies as the league’s top offensive defenceman. He also was a part of three cup winning teams, capping off an illustrious career with one in his final year. His personal stats are what truly jump off the page. Having three 100+ point seasons, and remaining over point per game in all but his final season, he scored 245 goals and 402 assists for an incredible 642 points. Allow me to introduce to you…ROQUE DAVIS!!!!”

    Could the Houston Bulls be molding some of the games future greats? I'd say yes. Look at their current top players. S71 studs like Hugh Jass, Erik Killinger and goaltender Stone Wolski are having great seasons and setting themselves up to be first round picks at the upcoming draft. Jass is flirting with 100 assists on the season and has already taken his spot as the all time leader in points for the franchise in less than 100 games played. Killinger is looking poised to score 65 goals and will be looked at to be a goal scoring machine at the next level. Wolski is having a fantastic season for the Bulls, sporting a GAA of 2.12 and a save percentage of nearly 92%. But their S72 additions at the deadline have real potential to get the call from the hall as well. Two forwards, SS Hornet and Valtteri Vaakanainen are scoring really well for rookies, and are already over 120 TPE each. Both players look to be future stars for the Bulls and will continue that trajectory into the VHL. On defense, young rookie Randy Marsh has already eclipsed 100 TPE and is looking to take over next year as the number one defenceman on the team.

    In closing, this current iteration of the Bulls looks to have five or six potential Hall of Fame candidates. Time will tell of course, a lot can happen over the course of the next 8-9 seasons, but things certainly look in their favour!

    As with every year, the trade deadline is often a time for GMs to bolster their lineup with recreates. These players typically have a higher starting TPE (as high as 80!!) and are highly coveted by managers looking to add depth. The Bulls were incredibly successful in this, adding many high caliber players. This not only sets them up for a good run this year, but also all but assures their chances at a solid season next year.

    Up front, the Bulls added three forwards. First up is center man SS Hornet. Hornet is one of two new additions who are already over 100 TPE. He’s a goal scoring Center who will step right into a top six role. The other forward joining him in the 100+ club is winger Valtteri Vaakanainen. VV is a solid addition to the round out the top six. Last but not least on the offensive side of the puck is Gino Digiannantonio. Digiannantonio is another goal focused winger (can someone create a player maker??? Jfc) who will fit in nicely.

    On the defensive side, the Bulls added two defenders to give them a really solid group. First is Randy Marsh. Marsh is a big bodied player who can quarterback a powerplay and score at will. He will fill the offensive shoes of Hugh Jass next season upon Jass’ graduation to the VHL. Second, is one of the largest players in the league, General Zod. Zod stands at 6’8 and weighs in at 240 lbs. He’ll be a force to be reckoned with on the back end for the Bulls.

    Team Canada WJC Roster 2/2

    Last week I quickly went through all of the forwards that Team Canada has chosen to be on their roster this year. I typically give each player a short description/history lesson as well as bring up past statistics. This week I plan I doing much of the same but this time it'll be the team's defensemen and goaltenders. I apologise as originally wanted this article to be published before the WJC's start but I lost my original point task due to my laptop crapping out on me. Anyways here we go.

    The Defense Corps

    Blacker Velvet

    @Higgins
    Velvet has been the example of consistency in the VHLM as he has managed to score 50 points in each of his 3 VHLM seasons. Last year he managed a career high 37 goals and 93 points playing for the Los Vegas Aces. He's going to have to pick up the pace this season in order to meet those career high numbers as he's on pace to hit 70 points for the year currently. Velvet brings to the team a solid offensive defenseman with a wealth of experience in the VHLM. His best tool at his disposal is his shot and Velvet may very well have the hardest shot in the tournament. His defensive play however has much more to be desired and I wouldn't expect Team Canada to use him much on the penalty kill, but expect Velvet to get a good chunk of powerplay time. Either way Velvet is bound to get a lot of playing time as he's expected to fill a role on team Canada's first pairing.

    Bo Burrows

    @Walter Fizz
    Burrows is an interesting player, he hasn't really been in the VHLM for very long as he's still on his rookie season but he managed to make enough of a impression on GM, Erik Draven. to be selected by Team Canada. Burrows plays more of a two-way kind of game and he's made quite the name for himself this year as a member of the dangerous Houston Bulls, who is well represented on Team Canada having 4 of their players  (Killinger, McDagg, Jass and Burrows) named to the team.  Burrows has been a mainstay on the Bulls 2nd pairing managing 25 points in 50 games and being +44 for the season. On Canada we figure Burrows will also be playing on the team's 2nd pairing while getting time on both to powerplay on penalty kill. With Burrows success' playing defensively with the Bulls, I expect Burrows to be featured on the team's top penalty killing unit as it doesn't seem to be Blacker Velvet's strong suit.

    Hugh Jass

    @TheFlash
    Jass is the real starpower for team Canada. It only took the man 50 games with the Houston Bulls to be able to hit the 100 points mark, making him the only 2 PPG player on the roster. His 100 point also puts him at #5 on the VHLM's top scoring list, 2nd amongst defensemen. Even though Jass has been a PPG his whole VHLM career I wouldn't say he's a one dimensional offensive defenseman either. His +52 rating is good for 9th in the VHLM and good for first on the stacked Bulls team. He also managed to put up more than 100 hits and blocked shots as well. That proves  to me that Jass is the real deal and is bound to become a VHL star someday as there just nothing out there that Jass cannot do. There is no weak spot in his game at all and he already looks ready for the big leagues. I expect Jass to be featured on the team's 1st pairing playing alongside Blacker Velvet as I think Velvet's goal scoring prowess will be complimented well with Jass' puck moving ability.

    Jayden Zelinsky

    @Jayden Zelinsky
    Zelinsky is the only S69 tournament returnee on defense. Last year he managed to play more of a shutdown role and ended the tournament having played 8 games and scoring a single assist. But he's +3 plus/minus rating indicates to me that Zelinsky did his job in shutting down the opposition while he's on the ice, but I wouldn't expect very much offense from the man even this year. I expect Zelinsky to be used the same way he was used last year. He's going to have more of a shutdown role on the 2nd pairing with some time on the penalty kill.

    The Goaltenders

    Jaxx Hextall

    @ROOKIE745
    Hextall currently plays for the Minnesota Storm who is currently just tearing up the VHLM. Both the Storm and Hextall share a winning percentage of  84% as they have won a total of 42 games out of 50 for the year. Hextall has he's been very consistent in his play only allowing an average of just 2 goals a game and recording himself 8 shutouts for the year. He currently leads the VHLM in Wins, Goals Against Average and Shutouts making his selection by Team Canada, an easy one. Being one of the VHLM's elite goaltenders, you would have to be crazy to not include him on the team. On any other team, Hextall's VHLM success would guarantee him a starting position but unluckily for Hextall and luckily for the team, Canada has two star goaltenders that are expected to share the games. In the medal rounds it all will depend who is the hotter hand.

    Jacques Lafontaine

    @SlapshotDragon
    Lafontaine came onto the scene last year with an incredible rookie campaign in the VHLM for the the Saskatoon Wild. His rookie campaign in S69 was so good that it trumps some of Hextall's great numbers for this season. In s69 he managed 68 wins and 4 losses which to me doesn't sound very real now does it? His rookie season also featured a league leading GAA (1.87). His season was so good that he got selected 4th overall in the S70 VHL draft by the Calgary Wranglers, the Toronto Legion ended up drafting Hextall 5 spots later with the 9th overall pick. The only issue with Lafontaine is that he hasn't gotten much playing time this season and has been gathering up dust sitting on the Wrangler's bench for the most past playing only the 4 games as their backup goaltender. It'll be a dogfight for the starting position come the medal rounds but will Lafontaine be able to shake off the rust? Only time will tell

    As I went over the team's forwards last week, I noted that the team was rather strong along the wings but somewhat weak down the middle. So weak that the team would possibly have to choose one of the team's wingers to fill in as a center. However the key to team Canada's success will be the team's defense and goaltending as Team Canada seems to have a package of both the strongest defense corps and the strongest goaltending tandem of the tournament.  This tournament is definitely going to have fans on the edge of their seats as they are eagerly awaiting their first gold medal in over 6 years. The pressure is on and anything but a gold medal is considered a failure in Canada, will the boys be able to pull it off? We'll see soon enough.

    My oh my, it seems like the season only just started, yet we are down to nearly 25 games remaining on the year. As is a constant in the league, we have our bottom feeders and our top dogs. Our rebuilders and our contenders. Though unlike some of the past seasons, we don’t have a front runner just yet. Three teams currently sit atop the standings separated by just three points.

    In first place we have Minnesota. They’ve allowed a league leading 96 goals, led by their top goalie Jaxx Hextall. He’ll be their MVP if they can hold onto the spot. Sitting just two points below them are the Ottawa Lynx. Upcoming S71 draft prospect Ola Vikingstad is leading the charge for them, he’s got 95 points and is among the leagues top scorers. And last but not least, in third place, are the San Diego Marlins. The Marlins are just three points behind the first place Storm. The Marlins are a VHL scouts dream, possessing four of the top talents in the upcoming draft. Kyl Oferson and Roque Davis each have 105 points. Meanwhile Uhtred and Thomas Landry II have 90 and 88 points respectively.

    How this season will end, no one knows. Though one thing is certain, we’re in for a wild ride!

    Life has been hard lately but I still need to do some points tasks.

    Julius Freeman thought this season would be the season the league would wake up and realize he is one of the best wingers in the game. There was a large amount of hype coming into the season but once the season started things have not gone on the right path for him. Vancouver tried some crazy things with its line up where they tried to make the first line the second line. The idea was that if our first line could face off against easier competition then they would get more points and attack more but after a few games that did not seem to be the case. Freeman hasn't been the same since last season, he has had a lot of things going on with his family and his housing situation, which might be the reason why he hasn't lived up to expectations. It has been painful to watch his games when he doesn't do so hot and when he simply isn't playing the way he should be. In terms of skill, he is a top 5 player in the league but based on his performance this season he will be lucky if he is top 20 at the end of this season. Maybe he will start to get hot later in the season we can only hope. But It is tough working hard and not getting rewarded for his play.

    49 games to go for Boucher when looking at regular season games that are left. Time has passed quickly and it saddens me to have to retire Joey in just a few weeks time. I remain hopeful that we remain in the playoff picture for those 49 games and we have a chance to make one final run at the continental cup. My personal performance this season has not been good enough and I am always working on improving even as the end nears. We are confident as a team that the playoffs are a strong possibility as long as we keep believing. The Titans have been the start and the end for my career which makes me want to leave a lasting impression for those that will be here for seasons ahead. That is all for me this time. Back to the ice to sharpen my game. Lets Go Titans!

    I have always maintained that the primary role of the VHLM GM is not to win the Founder's Cup, but to encourage activity and retain members. Encouraging players to not update in order to stay in the VHLM or benching active players for higher TPE inactives is against the spirit of what the VHLM is for in my opinion.

    Additionally, I'm of the opinion that with the TPE cap for the VHLM going up, prospects should be able to get the year of their VHL draft in the VHLM if they do not qualify for the VHL without it counting against their career clock. I get some players will lose a year of eligibility, but if an active player is spending two years in the VHLM, that's a drastically shorter VHL career, especially when you factor in regression.

    If there is anything serious to be gleamed from Robbies post, like you know an actual point, it has nothing to do with Kobe. The issue isn't that people are mourning a sports icon, the issue is and always has been the degradation of what "media" is in today's society. I'll say I'm absolutely with @tfong with the whole "where was the mourning during other far more significant tragedies." But again, you can't blame people for reacting to the only thing society tells them is going on. Did you know that an American Embassy was bombed the same day Kobe died? 3 Rockets landed on the embassy in Baghdad the same day. Yet the media doesn't give a shit about covering that extensively because it's all about the clicks, the views, the attention. The reason TMZ is considered media is because too many people pay attention to bullshit reality stars and fake celebrities over the actual world events going on.

    Like a war attack happened to the US and the death of a basketball player got more media priority. Where is the logic in that? But nothing will change until socieities start either holding their media accountable to not just run whats popular but do their jobs of telling the world what they actually should be paying attention to/aware of. Or until people stop hiding in holes and thinking that the world is okay enough that our priorities are idols and celebrities and bullshit....when the reality is it isn't at all. Those are the fewest things from importance they could ever be with the bullshit going on these days.

    Anyway, all of that is beside the point of the unfortunate deaths of some people in this crash. It happened, it sucks, people are obviously allowed to mourn. But it's no different than anything else, instead of critiquing the system, or the process, people like Robbie yell at other people and it continues in a pointless circle as each side thinks they are making any semblance of a point.
