  1. Well, things have certainly turned around for us in the last week or so. Almost as soon as I wrote my article last week complaining about us sucking, we're doing quite a bit better. The acquisition of Canmore and Revchenko is starting to take form, and we've shifted our lines around to help increase offensive output. We're having some struggles on the defensive end, but that was to be expected with our second pair being a rookie and a converted center.

On a personal note, I'm starting to rethink my decision to retire at the deadline this year. With Slipher actually starting to play well, I could see sticking it out with him for a couple more seasons. I am pretty hyped about making a defenseman at some point, but if I can wait out the market to the point where a goalie would be a viable option that would be awesome. There's still a lot of season left, and we still have a ways to go to reach where we really should be in the standings, but it's been a promising turnaround so far.

    . Latvian takeover?

Not really related to this topic, but interesting thing for me. Apparently, there are few Latvians who came here either from reddit/youtube or other member brought him. At this moment, we are four or five: me, @FrostBeard, @DoubleCarl, @GRZ and... @hejta? I wasn't sure about the last one. But first of all, he recruited GRZ. Second, his player is from Latvia so I assume he's also our fellow. One way or another, we have so much Latvians for the first time since @Prikulis5 and @Paramorise days. So yeah, this is nice.

Y'all need to get Zemgus Girgensons back in the ASG

  3. Well, we're 12 games into the season and guess who has the worst record in the league? Not the expansion Moscow Menace or the rebuilding Calgary Wranglers, but the supposedly-ready-to-compete Helsinki Titans. We've clearly had some issues in the early part of the season, with HSK G already starting his eight games and some issues with lines that caused problems with team chemistry. Ideally, those issues are a thing of the past now, but even after adding two new players in Jasper Canmore and Oleksiy Revchenko, we're still struggling to score points and win games.

Personally, I don't feel I'm clicking with Revchenko and Bailey just yet. It looks like we should be a solid line on paper: Revchenko is a decent playmaking center, I'm a fairly balanced winger, and Bailey is a shoot-first sniper. We should compliment each other very well, but so far we're doing somewhere between jack and squat. The first line is playing well, but we won't even make the playoffs unless out line starts to improve, and that needs to start now.

    1. Do you agree with your GM's decision to get all 8 backup games out of the way at the start of the season?
    2. With the big trade that happened with Calgary, how much does that improve team morale in the locker room?
    3. What goals have you set for yourself this season?
    4. For returning members, is there a different feeling about this team, than the one that went to the Finals last season?
      • For new members, what are your initial thoughts on the Helsinki organization?
    5. With so many teams having a legitimate shot at the playoffs, what are your thoughts on league parity?
    6. What is your signature drink when at parties, and why do you like it?

    1) Not particularly, but it's done and it could have gone worse, I suppose. I get that we wanted to avoid a situation like last season where we ended up being penalized in the playoffs for starting Pepper too many times, but that's not worth costing us the chance at wins early in the year.

    2) Morale will improve when our record improves. If Canmore and Revchenko can help us win, we'll all be happier. We just need to get there, and we're not there yet.

    3) Play well enough to stave off the desire to retire after this season. So far, I'm nowhere near that point. Look out for a new player hitting the market at the trade deadline, VHLM GMs.

    4) Not particularly. Canmore takes the place of Louth, and we're off to a terrible start again. That said, we ended last season in the Finals, so it's not the worst thing in the world to be in this position.

    5) I hadn't really noticed. I guess adding an expansion team will boost the chances of the other teams, so things will come around in the end, but with more players joining the league there are going to be plenty of chances for teams to feel comfortable competing with the rosters they have in place.

    6) I was in San Diego with some friends a couple years ago and we were hitting up some breweries. At the third or fourth place we went, I just asked for the strongest beer they had; when they told me they were out, I asked for the second-strongest beer they had. That's my drink of choice now.

I'm tired of hearing for the past 5 years about how our prospect pool is great but nothing ever happens. Again, this team absolutely needs to go out and spend big money on somebody who is a proven leader in this league.

When you do that, it leads to this:

It is not like this has ever affected me because i never claim welfare but come on your penalizing those tho don't have time to do a main point task... and I'm gonna leave it there.

If it's once in a while, the difference is going to be very minor. The punishment is only going to be a few TPE here and there, and it probably won't be noticeable. For people who claim welfare on the regular (a group that includes me), we probably should have less room for error when it comes to missing things like that. I personally have no problem with having my earning opportunity docked 1 TPE, because we're already in a system where doing a point task offers a relatively minuscule benefit. Those that do point tasks regularly deserve the leg up on those who don't.

  7. Pominville is old as balls and can only play well when he's on a line with Eichel. The defense isn't contributing much of anything outside of Dahlin and hopefully Montour now. I hate to say Okposo has been a bust, but he's injured a lot and doesn't play very well when he isn't. The return from the ROR trade has netted a young fourth-liner, an older fourth-liner, and a guy who quit in the middle of the season. Really, at this point it's mostly what @Gooningitup said, those four guys and it drops off a cliff.
