    Justin Cole
    Position: G

    Age: 16
    Height: 6'4"
    Weight: 200 lbs
    Birthplace: Orange County, CA, USA

    Current Team: Saskatoon Wild

Justin came late to hockey, having moved around the country for most of his childhood but sticking to warmer areas of the US. He originally took to football, but when his family moved back to Western New York to be closer to his grandparents, his grandfather insisted he give the sport he loved a try. Justin didn't much enjoy being out on open ice, but he took to netminding like a fish to water. With a mind for reading plays as they develop, catlike reactions, and quick hands, he proved to have a lot of raw talent and has been working nonstop to catch up to his compatriots who have been playing the game all their lives. He was ecstatic to attract the attention of Saskatoon; their roster has been gutted, but both he and the Wild feel he'll be the one position of improvement on the team.

    Positives

    Quickness

Justin's athletic endeavors have always been marked by the same highlight; speed. This is actually exactly why he found he didn't like the other positions on the ice as his lack of ability to skate took away his usual advantage. Straight-line speed isn't his only advantage though, his fast reactions and quick hands proved his greatest strength in net, and he fell in love with the position because of it. He's only rarely beaten high, and in the rare cases he's caught out of position he's got a quick recovery.

    Work Ethic

Justin is keenly aware of how late he came to the game. He sees himself as an underdog, constantly working to catch up to the others around him. Rather than making him angry or giving him a chip on his shoulder, he revels in the role. He loves the fact that, to this point, his hockey career has been a story of him always doing better than expected. Every new skill learned and mastered is a victory he savors. If he's not in the weight room or getting reps on the ice, his face is colored by the glow of a tablet as he reads up on the academic theory behind the game. He has a drive to be the best he can be, and starting from further behind has only provided more fuel for his motor.

    Even-Keeled

Justin has a certain philosophy about competition itself, he believes it's meant to determine who's the best on that day. A win is an affirmation of all the work he's put in so far, a loss is a push to make sure it doesn't happen next time. This leads to Justin never getting too high or too low and this lends to him being a rock to his teammates despite his young age. No matter how big the win he won't let anyone get too big a head, and no matter how crushing the loss he doesn't let people mope about it.

    Negatives

    Hockey IQ

While there's no denying Justin's intelligence or eagerness to learn, he's still behind the curve. He just doesn't have the experience of his peers, and when it comes to reading plays he can find himself out of position. His quickness in getting across the crease can sometimes make up for that, but there's no denying that at this stage the single greatest cause of goals he lets in is his lack of knowledge of the game.

    Rebound Control

Having only been in the game a few years some fundamentals still escapes Justin. Most especially, keeping track of where the puck is going after he stops it. Unless he's caught it in his glove, it could be going anywhere. He's reacting to the bounce same as everyone else, and his quick reaction time hasn't given him much incentive to fix the problem. He can often stop the rebound from just being so quick, and has learned to rely on this rather than keeping control of the puck directly.

    Detachment

There's little need to light a fire under Justin given his work ethic but in the big moments, he doesn't get quite as into it leaving his team feeling like he's not quite with them. While his more complimentary nickname is "Ice Cube" for how the big, clutch moments never make him sweat, his strange distance from the emotion of the game has also led to his high school teammates referring to him as "The Alien." His attitude can help keep the team from being too swingy, there's also something off-putting about he doesn't even enjoy the high moments with his team. This can lead to some oddities in team chemistry.

    GM's,

As stated prior, I like the old ways of the VHLM in terms of offering contracts. I like the activity is draws on the board. People are commenting and thus a good chunk of the site is looking at it to see what's going on. With that being said, you will still have to offer them a contract on the portal and have them accept it there to be finalized. That 100% needs to be done or it will not be good.

However, I also want to bring back the forum aspect of it.

    @VHLM GM

Do we wish to create individual sections for them in the finance sections like we used to do - or will be put them in their "create a player" page when they create players?

@Quik @Beketov Every GM has agreed on this and feels this way. This is one thing I feel strongly about. The portal is amazing and makes os much easier but at the end of the day, we're forum based - we're not portal based. Activity on the site is 100x more important to me than the portal and to me, this is something that really engages the new members, other members and all the above. Something I noted, when we removed offering contracts publicly on the site, I believe Quik mentioned that retention hadn't been as great as it was the previous time. I can't say that this is why, or a big chunk why but to me, it could be a small chunk why.

GM's let's come up with something fast and then move with it please.

    AGAIN:

    1. one of the two options for posting on the site. Do that and get the player to talk their with GM's and accept.
    2. ALSO get them to accept a contract on the portal etc.

    Thank you.

Clean and simple. Post in the player creation thread with your offer.
After X amount of hours passes (12 hours or 24 hours); the player accepts an offer by commenting in the same player creation thread then only that team offers a contract in the portal.

Kyson Blake at 8th also made sense for Riga, as if they had drafted a 200+ player like yourself you’d unfortunately have no choice but to play on the third defensive pairing. Going to HC Davos allows you to achieve ice time and grow with a rebuilding team as a member of the core.

Rookie salaries are are determined by how much TPE a drafted player has and not so much what they demand.

SASKATOON, SESKATCHEWAN - As the holidays draw closer, and the VHL season nears, Rylan Peace finds himself in a unique position - as a player he is departing his second home, the place he won a championship and met some quality individuals. As a GM, however, Peace returns to Saskatoon ocassionally to tend to his duties as the assistant manager of the hockey club. Ironically, Peace also joins Saskatoon's General Manager Dylan Nguyen in Riga.

When he's not manning his assistant (or acting) general manager office chair, he's donning the skates as Riga's newest second line right winger behind an all-star cast of players that also won the championship. It would be a joke to say Peace isn't excited for the opportunity to help Riga achieve a repeat, and potentially even a three-peat, but we know just how difficult that really is.

Riga defeated Calgary in a best of seven series, winning the finals four games to two (4-2). This result engaged Calgary's rebuild mode, but also put Riga as serious contenders in the upcoming season. Quebec City is - most likely - their most troublesome competition, but Peace believes that Riga has the developing depth to emerge victorious. Oh, and not to mention the core of Riga was uneffected by cap restrictions for now.

But despite being promoted to the big boy league, Peace's jersey has been returned to the equipment manager and their staff. Peace's 'C' is painfully stripped from his jersey and onto the next, a still unrevealed name now proudly donning the Wild Captaincy. It's the closing of an era in Saskatoon, even if it was just for a season, but it was a season the S63 Saskatoon Wild will remember fondly throughout their careers.

A season of skill and resilience for the hockey team.

The Saskatoon Wild found themselves trailing in the semi-finals against the Halifax 21sts (after a first round bye) three games to one (3-1), and after a quick decision to consistently rotate Carles Puigdemont number to keep goaltender Brick Wahl focused and 'in the zone', the Saskatoon Wild came back to win the remaining three games.

Carles and Brick developed an affection for one another during the regular season, and when the series begun Brick seemed to be suffering from lust every time Carles was on the ice or in eye sight on the bench. Brick struggled the first game, but at one point it looked like it was a sure-fire win for the Wild. They were up 7-1 midway through the second period before a monumental collapse found them loosing the game 8-7.

Game two was a stellar performance, where Wahl was a wall, shutting down the Halifax offense. The next two games, however, saw a Saskatoon lead blown once again and back to back defeats allowed Halifax to control the series 3-1. Peace changed tactics, playing a game of musical jerseys with Carles, and it worked. Saskatoon won seven games in a row on their way to a championship in what became just another inside joke.

Peace even told the equipment staff to increase their efforts after Dahlberg begun telling Wahl what jersey number Carles was wearing.

There really should be a rule for that, eh?

But back in the office - although the chair might be empty and the desk collecting dust - Peace and the majority of the S63 Saskatoon Wild aren't ready to say goodbye. The club today officially announced that the following players were added to the Wild Alumni, giving them permanent access to the Wild's arena and most of the interior, including the ice surface if they ever need to practice. Although it's doubtful they'll often be seen back in Saskatoon, we suspect - like Rylan Peace is currently taking advantage of - during the offseason this tight group of friends will skate together again on the ice they celebrated a championship on, despite winning game four in Ottawa.

Well it's 1 AM and I'm bored soooooooooo.........human CO2 emissions are 60x more annually than volcanic eruptions. You're right that volcanic eruptions may match the rate of human CO2 emissions, but that only lasts for a few hours, not a year. Also keep in mind that CO2 is not the only greenhouse gas; one of the major ones that I'm thinking of is methane, which derives from animal agriculture (mainly cows). While I'll agree that fear-mongering can go a bit too far, it's because the public isn't doing anything lol, they don't care unless it affects them right now.

What has changed you ask? Glaciers are melting at an unprecedented rate; for the past 400,000 years, CO2 in the atmosphere has never been above 300 parts per million, and now it's around 410 parts per million. Unfortunately, I fear it's too late to do much; it's what we call a positive feedback loop. Glaciers have a much higher albedo (reflectivity) than water, so as glaciers melt, the water will absorb more heat from the sun and in turn, cause the oceans to become hotter and more glaciers to melt. Rising sea levels, melting glaciers, rising global temperature, warming oceans; the evidence for climate change is overwhelming, but of course, it's your prerogative to believe conspiracy theories.

How do we know that climate change is caused by these human greenhouse gas emissions? They have records from ice cores that correlate CO2 levels to temperature. 97% of scientists believe in man-made global warming, it’s not a 50-50 split in the scientific community like the main stream media would have you believe.
