There is absolutely 0 reason to feel bad about pressing the welfare button.

Imagine a VHL with no welfare - now you TRULY feel bad about not doing a point task week in and week out. This is one of the exact reasons welfare was added. The league recognized that "pedal to the metal" point tasking leads to burnout, burnout leads to anger, and anger leads to hate, and hate leads to suffering.

And to @Beketov's point about min-maxing TPE versus just clicking welfare - you can create a good to great player with just welfare and doing most, if not all, of the theme weeks. Take me for example. I've done welfare just about every week except for theme week and I did a builder HoF article. I'm somewhere around 10th in my draft class, but it's pretty close from 8th-12th-ish. However, with Smitty, I TPE whore'd my first 5 seasons or so and then was able to coast with half welfare, half point tasks.

While I'm going on, the ability to multi-claim longer articles has been another great addition to the league. Imagine writing a 1,500 word point task one week and then having to write another point task the next week.

After recent events that I won't talk about, it made me wonder how the simming side of things work. What's all the things that goes into making the very sims that bring us all together happen? So yesterday I decided to purchase a two-year license to get STHS with all the bells and whistles.
Just looking at it once I got some basic NHL rating files in there shows a fairly complex system of imputing any and all information someone could want. Mostly getting this for learning and maybe experimenting purposes, I honestly can't wait to get into this whole thing. Last night I at learned how to do single player creation, just recreating Hex Rose in the system.
Honestly there is so much to learn with this and I would love any and all tips and tricks from members with more experience with this than I. Simming is such an important aspect of this league, so being able to learn more about it is amazing.
Most of y'all know that I am an ambitious member that looks for all ways to learn and grow in the league. I plan on figuring out how to make a simple sim with NHL players tonight, maybe I'll turn this into a series where I detail my time learning the engine.

    Also... @Quik.

I'm ashamed I didn't realize this sooner than I did after briefly reading it early today but...

There that's what I think of your reasoning.

Like I said, I’ll figure it out, but let’s be clear that no matter what our wording on the matter is we’re doing this because apparently people think that we have to server their every whim and have them looking over our shoulder the entire time while we do it. No matter the reason we say I don’t care for that. I don’t care for having to make my life more inconvenient because Gorlab is being a prick and no one else should have to either.

So I’m fine with dealing with it but I’m not fine with the reasoning and we’re walking a dangerous line by basically saying “throw a big enough hissy fit and you get what you want.”

Would people be willing to trade off reliable (in terms of daily and usually at around the same time) sims and live streaming sims? I'm going to guess the answer is no, and demanding both is unreasonable.

After reading the last few posts, I kinda/sorta got the impression that some folks don't like that STHS is not predictable:

"Also STHS is a shit engine with inconsistencies like crazy so patterns really don't mean much"
    and
"anybody can make a claim at anytime with how shit the STHS engine is, giving us more complaining and headaches during the season. This isn't the first time I bet and wont be the last if the same shit continues and the people who actually agree with this sit on the sidelines unhappy."

But isn't that by design...I mean if the output was more predictable, what fun would that be.  The engine apparently is supposed to simulate real games....well...in RL any given day can result in an upset, and in fact do.  (see Ottawa vs Leafs....Leafs lose 6 - 5 after holding a 5 - 1 lead.)

Just commenting on this - PBE uses OOTP (Outside of the park baseball) as their sim engine. They have the same issues of certain attributes being OP, etc.., but OOTP is hands down the best live viewing experience 100% aided by the fact baseball is the best sport for a sim league given the nature of the game. PBE has 3 sims a week (3 for majors, 3 for minors, all on separate days) each lasting for a couple of hours where people actually commentate on what is going on in each game, which is watched live and sped up - I think you watch the last pitch of every at bat? OOTP allows you to have online saves - I'm ASSUMING that the save file is hosted/saved somewhere accessible by all simmers, who load/save the file after each sim.

It is kind of cool to watch your team play, but I don't understand how they don't have a higher level of burnout for simmers/presenters (which I think are the same thing?). I believe each league has a couple of people who rotate, maybe doing 1 sim a week?

Either way, we obviously don't have anything like that with STHS or any other possible sim engine, so "live sims" would be for verification purposes only.

I think my position on live sims outside of the playoffs is known - don't think we need them, and honestly don't necessarily care about the backlash. I know this is often a bad reasoning, but I'm going with it anyway - it's worked for 14 years or however long it's been. I don't think it's broken. There has to be some sort of expectation of fun/this is not a business/super serious the same way we always have to have a conversation that there is not going to be a rule for 100% of the time for every situation.

What are results everyone agrees with? Everyone's player does well? The better team always wins?

People will always be upset about the sim engine. The better team always winning is not enjoyable. Your player (not you specifically, the general 'you') will not always perform up to their TPE. Sometimes, they will overperform their TPE!

Changing the sim engine also effects a ton of other factors with the league. The league is balanced around the current attributes in STHS, the 6 forward, 4 defenseman, and 1 or 2 goalie set up, etc... Change the sim engine, and you change EVERYTHING.

Okay let's start out with the fact I almost wrote "travhav" in the title instead of what I did write. Pretty sure I haven't wrote a Fan article on this gem but here goes. DAAD has been a great member here for a long time. I found this guy on the Canucks forum boards because I had gone to all of the boards to see if they would allow for recruitment posting under their "Other" or "Fantasy League" topics. Sure enough the rules are very loose on the Vancouver Hockey Boards (CDC) much like they defensive units this year. Anyways, Daad was a blessing to this league and I'm glad I found him. He has been a steady General Manager in the league, held many job titles and always takes a very neutral approach to potential conflict. If you get into a spat with this guy, something is wrong with you because he is the less argumentative guy and he is so easy to talk to at a calm level head. I feel like his hockey knowledge is very high too, despite not being able to see some of the best teams in recent years; I'm glad he has a Canucks team to cheer for that has some very good potential forwards. Travis is a gem and we should protect our gems in this league at all costs. Everyone raise their glasses and have a drink of Russell or Hoyne Beer in honour of @DollarAndADream
