Since we have this amazing opportunity of a brand-new league, I wanted to document the first occurrence of various events. I’m operating under the assumption that all games on the same day occur at the exact same time. I’m comparing all the opening games to figure when the first occurrence of an event actually happened. Maybe someday there will be a wing in the VHL Hall of Fame where pucks, stick, and jerseys from these events will hang. Maybe with a highlight video set to rousing music with a far too boring narrator (likely a celebrity who has some insignificant, tangential relationship to hockey) playing on repeat in the background. Anyway, let's get on to honoring the people to accomplish these feats first.

First Face-off win – well since all games open with a face-off, there is a 3-way tie for this one. At 0:00 of the 1st period all 3 of these players won a face-off.
Jlloyoid Blloyoiderson @Cxsquared Bratislava Watchmen won a face-off against Darth Kaprizov @Darth Kaprizov Cologne Express
Kman @Kman Istanbul Red Wolves won a face-off against Otto Numminen @Otto Numminen Rome Gladiators
Omi Aberg @osens Stockholm Vikings won a face-off against Saku Kotkakoivu @DollarAndADream Vasteras Iron Eagles

First completed pass – Now there may be some controversy on this one. According to the sim when someone wins a face-off it is always followed by “Pass to”. I don’t count that as a pass because it’s just the result of winning the face-off. So this is the first pass after the face-off. And the sim doesn’t give exact time for events like passing, but based on the opening events in all the games, I think this pass was the first completed pass.
Jannik Nylen @DreMin15 to Jakub Brozik @Viper Bratislava Watchmen

First Intercepted Pass – I’m a little surprised this happened so early. This was the first pass attempt of the game.
Shaggy Tipton @TheTiptonKing Vasteras Iron Eagles intercepted a pass from The Loch Ness Monster @LuluSalesAway Stockholm Vikings

First Shot Attempt – Not all shots make it to the goal. But there’s props to be given just for attempting a shot. At 0:12 of the 1st period, the first shot was attempted.
Tynan Sylvester @diamond_ace Vasteras Iron Eagles

First Shot Block – The reason the first shot was just an attempt is because it was blocked. Also at 0:12 of the 1st period, we have our first shot block.
The Loch Ness Monster @LuluSalesAway Stockholm Vikings

First Shot on Goal - It took a couple of tries but Vasteras was able to finally put a shot on goal. The first shot on goal happened at 0:18 of the 1st period.
Kyle Peace @Peace Vasteras Iron Eagles

First Save – With shots on goal come saves. Also at 0:18 of the 1st period we have our first save.
Em Em Flex @oilmandan Stockholm Vikings

First Rebound – With saves come rebounds. Also at 0:18 of the 1st period we have our first rebound.
    Em Em Flex @oilmandanStockholm Vikings

First Icing – It’s weird what things STHS decides to put exact time stamps on, but icing is one of them. At 0:22 of the 1st period the first icing in the history of the VHLE occurred.
Hari Singh Nalwa @Dil Rome Gladiators

First Hit – Hitting is one of the best parts of hockey. The first hit lands at exactly 1:00 minute into the 1st period.
    Logain Ablar @Kelsier Bratislava Watchmen

First Save without Rebound – Goalies love to be able to corral and hold onto the puck after making a save. The first save without a rebound happened at 1:02 of the 1st period.
    Tobias Reinhart @Spaz Rome Gladiators

First Ejection from Face-Off – The linesman can kick you out of the face-off if you don’t line up properly or move too soon. At 1:02 of the 1st period we had our first player ejected from the face-off.
    Deke Rike @JCV Rome Gladiators

First Penalty – It didn’t take long to break the rules. The first penalty was recorded at 1:20 in the 1st period.
    Rocket @Rocket Cologne Express

First Offside – The sim isn’t too clear as to who the actual player was who was off-side, so we’ll just give it to the team. At 1:49 of the 1st period, the first offside was committed by:
    The Stockholm Vikings

First Goal – The moment we’ve all been waiting for… 2:10 into the 1st period we have the first goal ever scored in the VHLE!
    Pippo Coca @pippo Bratislava Watchmen

First First Assist – Recorded at 2:10 in the 1st period
    Donny Carter @TheNeonShaman Bratislava Watchmen

First Second Assist - Recorded at 2:10 in the 1st period
    Tony Adams @fonziGG Bratislava Watchmen

First Power Play Goal – It just so happens the first goal was also a power play goal (2:10 of the 1st period).
    Pippo Coca @pippo Bratislava Watchmen

First Goal Allowed – Unfortunately someone had to allow the 1st goal (2:10 of the 1st period)
    David Davis @Josh Cologne Express

First Even Strength Goal – This one happened 6:47 into the 1st period
    Deke Rike @JCV Rome Gladiators

First Post Hit – So close yet so far away. 14:08 into the 1st period we had our first shot ring off the post.
Sunrise van de Schubbekuteveen @Thunfish Cologne Express

First Fight – With so much emotion flowing it’s hard to believe it took until 11 seconds into the 3rd period for our first fight. The fight ended in a draw.
    Aldwin Craig @Eldredman Stockholm Vikings
Saku Kotkakoivu @DollarAndADream Vasteras Iron Eagles

First Overtime Goal – Crazily enough, all 3 opening games went into overtime. There was one overtime goal.
Darth Kaprizov @Darth Kaprizov Cologne Express

First Penalty Shot Goal – The remaining 2 games went into a shootout. One player scored in the first round of shots.
Zach Kisslinger II @Kisslinger Stockholm Vikings

First Game Winning Shootout Goal – Two of the opening games had to be decided by a shootout. One ended earlier than the other thanks to a goal scored in the 3rd shootout round to win.
    Aldwin Craig @Eldredman Stockholm Vikings

First Hat Trick – There were no hat tricks in the opening game so now we’re looking at Game 2. Interestingly enough, there were two hat tricks in the same game. But one player scored their 3rd goal first.
    Russell Dixon @Rjdixon01 Rome Gladiators

First Shorthanded Goal – This was the 2nd goal of the other het trick in that game. Also happened to be the 1st shorthanded goal in VHLE history.
    Kman @Kman Istanbul Red Wolves

That’s everything I can think of that has happened so far. At the time of this writing there are still some “firsts” out there like first shutout, first ejection, first fight win. Lots of things for the dreamers in the VHLE to chase after!

    1. I think our depth and goal tending is hurting us the most. If we can pump up those numbers we have the offensive power to make a playoff run.
    2. I'm over a point per game right now so I'm really feeling it. My 16.42% shot percentage feels quite strong right now and hopefully I can keep that up.
    3. I think it will provide a good balance of competition for those mid tier TPE players. It will feel even better to become a VHL star even though it will be harder.
    4. Not anything specific but I think we need a hair metal anthem.
    5. Pulling for the Leafs only because of Foligno. As long as a former Blue Jacket get's a cup I'll be happy.

SEASON 78 OTTAWA LYNX CAPTAINCY ANNOUNCEMENT

With my first official announcement as GM, I am proud to announce the 3 players that will be representing the Ottawa Lynx's leadership group for Season 78. Leading a new era of Lynx hockey, these 3 players have been very active and embodies what it means to be a member of the Ottawa Lynx.

    C - Bogdan Trunov @qripll
Oh Captain, My Captain. Trunov has been one of the most vocal in the locker room, never shying away from how he feels. I am confident and excited about his ability to lead this team on and off the ice, and it only makes sense as the current longest tenured Lynx to be awarded the C.

    A - AJ Williams @ajwllmsn
Although very new to the team as a waiver-signing, Williams' impact has been felt strongly and immediately. Whether it be pumping up the team or creating awesome Lynx graphics, Williams has a bright future with both the Lynx and in the league as a whole, and he is very deserving of the A this season.

    A - Jacob Rask @BostonBruinsFan1806
The last line of defense, our starting netminder, Jacob Rask, is a true class act. Very humble, but is not shy when it comes to stopping the puck. Despite having deep roots in Yukon, he has made the quick transition to become our go-to guy, thus being awarded with an A stitched on his jersey.

For the purposes of the sim, as you can not have a goalie as captain, Shane Lazeski @Shane Laz will be given the 2nd A. Congratulations everyone!

    1. I've managed to actually put in a little practice which I hadn't in the previous off-season.
    2. I'm hoping that I can step up and make an impact on the team in a season or two.
    3. As much as I hate to say it, the Leafs. As a Columbus fan I really hope Foligno get's a cup.
    4. Since I'm still in the VHLM I haven't had a chance to get out to Moscow but I'm excited to see the sites once I get there.
    5. I haven't been keeping up but I'm hoping the Greenland players have a good showing.
    6. I think it'd be great to see the team in the playoffs but I'd be fine getting some good drafts next season.

well, considering that making playoffs was almost a pipe dream after a 0-7-1 start I can't complain about this season. Our young guns tried their best and I can't wait to see them when they're becoming better! Sucks to see such a quick ending for Lagesson and especially our legend @Cxsquared, but at least we tried and even took a game here.

GG @diamond_ace and good luck in the next round!

Cxsquared reacted to Patrik Tallinder in Looking Back On My First Career
I first logged into this website with absolutely no idea where to start. As I’m sure many of you can relate to, the sheer amount of buttons on the homepage of the forum was a bit overwhelming. When I created my player it was the offseason, and that meant I was just waiting to be drafted right away to a VHLM team. I received some messages on my player creation thread where I was offered advice on where to begin. Part of me felt like this was all just a bit too complicated, yet I reached out to two of those people to see if I could get a grasp on how I could improve my player. @DizzyWithLogic and @Jubo07 helped me get on my feet, and I started to earn some TPE.

Only one VHLM team showed any interest in me prior to the draft, and it was the Mississauga Hounds. Because of this, I was really hoping that I would end up there. The draft came around, and I saw my name appear on the draft board at pick 31, next to none other than the Hounds logo. I played two amazing seasons in Mississauga that I still look back on so fondly after an entire VHL career in the books. The still-intact duo of @GustavMattias and @Berocka helped me out with my build and TPE earning, and that helped me a lot early on. Along with them were my teammates, which included names like @DarkSpyro, @Ricer13, and of course @Cxsquared. This would not be the last I saw of cxsquared, as we would both be drafted in the first round by the Riga Reign in the S69 Draft.

In my second season with the Hounds, I was trying to find a way to keep active, so I tried something new. I had interest in scouting, because at the time, the only scouting articles that came out with any regularity were the VSN mock drafts. I wrote my first “S70 Draft Profiles” article, and never looked back. I would continue this series until the S72 Draft, and even make a couple draft hype videos that were well received by the community.

My draft content landed me a spot with VSN, where I covered the Award Tracker and my new series, Future Watch. Huge thank you to @FrostBeard for hiring me, and to all the others for welcoming me so warmly. At the end of my first season with them, I transitioned into my new role as head of the new VSN Scouting department, where I would work alongside the dedicated and enthusiastic @Spence King. I am now in university so I do not have as much time for writing anymore, but I still try to contribute occasionally to VSN.

In the meantime, I was now playing in Riga. It took me some time to get acclimated to the VHL, but I was seeing steady improvement from season to season and that’s all that mattered to me. In S72, our team put it all together and won it all after seasons upon seasons of competing. To this day, that is the highlight of my career. In S74, I had my best offensive season by a mile. My 127 points led the league, and that is the highest single-season point total since S63. I’m really proud of my time in Riga, and I had so many amazing teammates throughout my time there. I’d like to also thank @hedgehog337 once again for being such a great GM and bringing my player a Continental Cup. There are so many people that I could shout out from my time in Riga, so I’ll just leave this here, as it really sums everything up quite well.

With that being said, my career didn’t end in Riga. After a blockbuster trade, I was sent to my new home of Calgary. I was welcomed with open arms, and the team really embraced me from day one. Fast forward to now, and I am the team’s assistant general manager. A big thank you goes to @Jubis for bringing me in, and all of my current teammates in Calgary. My time with the Wranglers has been nothing short of spectacular, and I couldn’t be more proud to end my career with this team. Let’s just hope that all of our retiring players leave on the highest of notes this season.

It feels weird to no longer be a first gen, yet it is really exciting to start fresh again. Thank you to everyone who made this such a memorable career, and watch out for Nils Tallinder in the S78 Draft!
