    Hey there @DangerGolding,

I'm DoktorFunk and I'm the GM of the Ottawa Lynx. Hoop was my protege when he went through the VHLM. If you're interested, I'd love to have you join our team so I can teach you, as well! We have one of the best locker rooms in the league and are making a push for the cup this season! Let me know if you're interested by quoting this post and saying "accept!" Either way, I'd love to help with any questions you have!

    Warmest regards,

EFL offers 1 capped TPE for commenting on presentations, could make "game attendances" a thing here as well. 1 TPE for 2-3 relevant sentences about the game - probably follow a similar length to reviews. Adding that could get people out of the trivia rut as well since that's something that I've heard folks grumble about, that most people just siphon answers off of a handful of members. Add Game Attendances and eliminate Trivia, or make it uncapped for seasonal payouts. Few ways to go down that route.

Hooperorama reacted to DangerGolding in Theme Week: SBA Dream team
As a member that came into the VHL via the SBA I thought I'd make a dream team with a few of the members that I interact with the most from the SBA and see how our dream team would look here. Will their aptitude (or lack thereof) in fake basketball translate across to the world of fake hockey? Are they truly just a one sport member? Are they thriving in a sim league that hasn't been a two team duopoly for the past decade of seasons?

    @Goliathus - Tee Pee E II
First off one of the members I've talked to the most over the past few seasons, from handing him the reigns of the SBDL team I founded to using him as my DC bitch when I was stranded without sim access. Goli has become one of the prominent members in the SBA community. He's made a goalie here and seems to be chugging along quite nicely in tpe, though I suspect if his current trajectory continues he won't see quite the success he's seen in fake basketball but a consistent 8 a week player can always find a home in the VHL. Playing for Yukon this season he's contributed 12 assists but has failed to find the net so far this season, albeit with only 5 shots it's not a surprise to see a donut in that stat. A +5 in his P/M is a good sign that he's contributing to winning hockey though and if his GM can get him to maybe start claiming a couple extra per week he could become a starter.

    @DollarAndADream - Stone Wolski
One of the player on the list for which the VHL is generally their main lead, DaaD has a pedigree behind him. Leph Twinger was a two time continental cup winner and Stone Wolski is developing into one of the premier shot stoppers on the ice today. Likewise his player in the SBA is a top guard in the league now and has brought his A game to the playoffs on multiple occasions for my team. Notably on the list too is that I actually have already player with DaaD on DCD for a few seasons and though we didn't quite achieve the success we wanted I'd be happy to reunite some time in the future with my recreate.

    @Hooperorama - Ajay Krishna
An honourable mention at the G spot, though he doesn't have the record or notoriety in the VHL that DaaD has, nethertheless he's one of the top first-gens in his class. Drafted 17th he's already moved up a few spots in the TPE charts and though young he's maintained a .900 save percentage this season for the Warsaw Predators, a mark that shows promise for the rookie goaltender.

@Aye my name jeff - Jordan Tate
Where would a sim league be without the antics of Zeke, he burst onto the SBA scene about a year and a half ago and was one of the first players to come under my wing in my first Head Coaching gig at West Virginia, also arguable became the first true star of the franchise and though his first foray into the VHL with Killy Foilen wasn't the explosive entrance many would have expected from the volatile Zeke that we know I feel like his second run at the league will be more successful, much like I hope mine will be. There's never a dull moment with Zeke in a locker room and it would be fun to link up with him one more time.

    @okochastar - Julian Nousiainen
Another big SBA name that I have never managed to play with, with repeated attempts to trade for him getting shot down by his various GMs. Unlike some of the other entries that came from the SBA Oko has already carved out a decent career with his first appearance in the VHL with Guillaume Fontenette, reaching the quadruple digits in TPE with the French defenseman while playing out his whole 6 year career in Helsinki. Certainly a steal for the 30th overall pick. No doubt one of the hottest prospects due to the unrivalled earning potential of getting an auto 12 per week from being the SBA's resident simmer it's a wonder how he even dropped to the 9th pick in the 73 draft with his recreate center. He's putting together a very solid rookie season too with 15 goals and 21 assists for a London United team going through the growing pains of a new franchise. Undoubtedly he would be one of the better fits for my shoot-first winger and there's definitely the appeal of joining London, my hometown team in real life.

Hooperorama reacted to DangerGolding in Kaladin Kvothe spotted talking with VHLM players at an SBA game
The British VHLM prospect that's expected to enter the league at the trade deadline was recently seen at an SBA pre-season game talking with Ajay Krishna @Hooperorama,formerly of the Ottowa Lynx. It's uncertain what they were talking about but speculations is rife on hockey twitter over where the talented forward could be landing when he makes his entry into the VHLM. There hasn't been any leaks from Kvothe's camp yet over any offers received but there is a decent amount of time left before the trade deadline, there also hasn't been much rumblings from any of the teams so far. Admittedly there is a fair amount of scepticism when it comes to players out of the UK due to a lack of pedigree compared to many other hockey powerhouses like Canada, US or the Scandinavian block.

Krishna was not the only player in attendance there though as pics of an afterparty post-game saw Kvothe in a booth sitting with Lucifer Olivier Leveque @InstantRockstar who's has strong ties to the San Diego Marlins, an interesting fact as the Marlins was also the landing spot where Kvothe's mentor Raleigh Ritchie spent the majority of his VHLM career, and still is one of the highest point scorers in the teams history. Of course teams will only be able to retain Kvothe for half a season before he is lost to the dispersal draft but he could definitely add some depth to a team that is challenging for a title and needs an additional spark plug off of the bench

Hooperorama reacted to emidas in Joe Kelly switches sports
Joe Kelly showing no remorse for putting cheaters in their place

    “The SH”V”L?”
    “No, the VHL.”
“What the f--k kinda ripoff name is that?”

With those words between Joe Kelly and his agent, his fate was sealed. Since Rob Manfred had banned Kelly from Major League Baseball for life for his steadfast refusal to fellate Manfred, as well as being the most vocal antagonist of the scumbag organization known as the Houston Astros, Joe had been looking for new ways to flex his athletic prowess and still make enough money to impress the honey’s. Originally having considered the SBA, Kelly quickly tossed aside that option as he didn’t feel like playing in a league with only two real teams. He then considered football in the EFL, but his agent advised against this due to “speed being king”, and Kelly not being an olympic sprinter.

Thus, Kelly began to set his sights on the VHL - more specifically, the VHLM. Despite not even knowing how to skate, Joe was intrigued by the ability to hit anyone he disagreed with, as well as the freedom to carry a dangerous weapon on him at all times.

In order to prepare for this major shift in profession, Joe knew he had to bring in the best. Wanting to make a big impression on any potential VHL suitors, he shelled out for the best tandem skaters alive to train him how to maneuver on the ice - Chazz Michael Michaels and Jimmy MacElroy. With their help, Kelly was quickly able to pick up the ability to skate efficiently and effortlessly, even eventually lending his ability to improving their own Iron Lotus.

Chazz Michael Michaels and Jimmy MacElroy, responsible for Kelly's skating prowess.

For play on the ice, however, Joe needed to dig deeper. His years of focusing on another sport meant he was behind in even the most basic of formations and play - and thus, it was Joe’s idea to reach out to someone who was a master at teaching kids to win in Pee-Wee - Gordon Bombay. With Bombay’s help, Kelly was able to adapt to puck handling and shooting at a rate Bombay had never seen out of a child. He even learned something called a “knuckle puck” that is sure to come in handy as he climbs through the VHLM ranks.

Coach Bombay, responsible for teaching Kelly how to handle a puck and score.

With the training received from Michaels, MacElroy, and Bombay, Joe Kelly appears primed to break into the VHLM - and, eventually, and VHL - with some noise. Playing time so far has been minimal, but Kelly knows that will come with time, when it is earned - which is all Kelly desired. To earn his place.

So theme week arrives once more. This season's theme is making your own dream team. This is honestly something I wasn't really looking forward for. Mostly because I'll have to take a look at individual players and actually think what players would be good for a "dream team." At first I thought that I should do VHL. Looking at the greatest players of all time and then forming a team from there. Then I said fuck it, I'm doing a VHLM one with emphasis on recent memory. So let's just get on with it. And by recent memory, I mean S72 at the earliest.

    Adam Syreck - LW @Spade18
    VHLM Career Stats: 222 GP, 150G, 247A, 397P, +224

So starting off with Syreck here. This guy was insane in S72 as he lead the league in points that season with 147. He had a total of 58 goals and 89 assists and absolutely tore it up. Career wise, he's nearly got 400 points in just 222 games. What's more insane is that he's a career +224. I think he would make an excellent addition to my recent VHLM dream team as he has had a great career so far. A winner of the Ethan Osborne, and Mitch Higgins as league MVP. He's even managed to maintain his over a point per game career in the VHL with the Chicago Phoenix. One of the 4 recent expansion teams.

    Venus Thightrap - C @BladeMaiden
    VHLM Career Stats: 94GP, 52G, 74A, 126P, +30

So the next choice here is Venus Thightrap, one of the key contributors of Houston's decently stacked roster last season. She never had as long of a VHLM career as Syreck did but did have an outstanding breakout season. Tied for second in points that season, her 125 point performance helped push her team to second in league standings. Her dynamic offense and physical game allowed her to bring in an intense, dominant game. She doesn't have any titles to her name but that doesn't matter much. Ever since she was drafted to Vancouver, she's been solid as well with 35 points in 39 games as she's currently tied for 5th in rookie scoring this season.

    Dakota Lamb - C @dlamb
    VHLM Career Stats: 144GP, 81G, 104A, 185P, +40

The Miami Marauders is the youngest VHLM team, and it's safe to say that Dakota Lamb is practically their franchise face during his time there. Back to back 90+ point seasons and both are with Miami. Heck they even have an award named after him. A pure scorer with 81 goals, 104 assists and 185 points during his 144 game career, he has always been exceeding expectations and brings his A game every time he's on the ice. And that can translate on the VHL level as well as he's currently the leader in points in terms of rookies with 47 in 40 games. A great contributor for a very young and promising Warsaw team.

    Alex Letang - D @Spartan
    VHLM Career Stats: 144GP, 30G, 140A, 170P, +90

Letang was again another player that played two full seasons with the same team and that was the Las Vegas Aces, to which Spartan is also the GM of. This playmaking defenseman has had a great breakout season in S72 with 114 points and 94 assists. Leading him to win the Vladimir Boomchenko award for most assists in a season. Letang is a great 200 ft game player as he's not only been a great assist man, but also an excellent defender on his own end. So far he's been able to translate that to the VHL with the Moscow Menace as he has 95 points in 111 VHL games. A more than capable blue-liner for the Menace.

    Riley Knight Gee - D @KnightRiley
    VHLM Career Stats: 212 GP, 75G, 208A, 284P, -47

Don't let the -47 rating fool you, RKG has been one of the best offensive defenseman in the VHLM of recent. And one I personally think deserved some hardware but was FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY. The only reason he's a career minus player is because he was in pretty bad Houston teams during his career. Another one who I think is a franchise face when I think of the bulls as he has spent three fucking seasons there. He lead the entire league in points in S73 with a whopping 140. The guy can score. He can also defend as he has a career 441 shots blocked and 421 hits. Did I mention that he's under 6ft in height? I am actually pretty honoured to be his teammate at one point. As I'm pretty sure he holds the franchise record for most points in a single season. He's been pretty decent in the VHL with Prague but his VHLM career is something to be remembered.

    Ajay Krishna - G @Hooperorama
    VHLM Career Stats: 144GP, 88W, 48L, 8OTL, 0.893 SV%, 2.90 GAA, 14 SO

Before moving up to the VHL, Ajay Krishna was the face of Ottawa. Again a player who's spent their entire VHLM career with one team, what makes Krishna outstanding is his record. 88 wins, and only 48 losses. You rarely see VHLM goalies have a SV% above .900, and yet Krishna was close. 14 career shutouts in the VHLM is no easy feat as well. His absolute giant 6'8, 220lbs frame allows him to practically be a brick wall, and again he's now part of a very promising Warsaw team.

So that's my theme week article, if you think anyone else of note should be featured, let me know! Anyways I won't be able to claim the capped portion until a couple of weeks for now so... uh well. Laters?

    Scott Greene: Leaving Home

September 10th. 6 am. The sun rises over downtown Seattle. The sounds of the city waft lightly through the open penthouse window. Suddenly, his alarm goes off. The same sweet jingle he's used for years. The one that means get up and go. Time to meet the media. Or, more specifically, me.

I'm DoktorFunk. I’ve worked for the Seattle media for 10 years now. And I've been following Scott Greene ever since he first got drafted by the Hounds. I've spent countless hours writing about him and the Bears, and eventually he and I became good friends. I’m meeting him in a local cafe today.

It’s his last day in Seattle.

"I was up late," he says, as we sit in the diner’s booth, slowly sipping our french roast. The waitress asks if Scott wants to be topped off. He laughs and she pours more coffee. “Thank you. I promised myself I'd take it easy, but we still celebrated like it was the first time."

    "Funny that it's the last."

"Yeah that's funny. It’s weird, that’s for sure. I still can’t really believe it”

Greene out with the Bears celebrating their fourth Continental Cup win

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Soon, Scott Greene will be the 1st line center man for the Calgary Wranglers. A team he spent a significant amount of time playing against in the Season 73 North American Conference Finals. He was surprised by this information the day after winning the Continental Cup. I ask if he’s excited and he smiles broadly. “Despite my history with them, I’m absolutely hyped to join them.”

Calgary is a team he knows all too well.

After going down 3-1 in the series, the Seattle Bears came back by winning two games to force a game 7. They were up against the wall.

After game four, I interviewed Scott Greene inside the Bears locker room.

“Hey there Scott! Tremendous performance by you and the Bears tonight. Are you happy with your performance?”

"Yeah, I think we played great, you know? Definitely brought our game to them. Just hoping we can keep going. It’s tough. Calgary… they’re impressive. But, as long as we go 1-0 each day, I like our odds.”

Calgary had fielded a very  impressive team. They had taken it to the three time champs with outstanding play from their center, Kris Rice, and record-breaking play from their goalie, Jacques LaFontaine. Many people were quiet in the Seattle media, and the fans were even quieter. The fabled “3-1” curse could still happen, but it wasn’t likely. After all, the Wranglers were cleanly outplaying the Bears. How could it happen?

“It’s probably the most stressed I’ve ever been,” says Greene.

The Bears General Manager, Blake Campbell, would sit down and look at the tapes for the next 24 hours. He wouldn’t sleep, he wouldn’t eat. He crunched all the numbers in the hopes of cracking the code.

“It was pretty wild to see,” says Greene. “He barely said anything to us until game day. Then, he essentially came out of all of that and said ‘follow my lead’. So we did, and we hoped we could do it.”

    The Bears would do it.

For the fourth time in six seasons, the Seattle Bears were on their way to the Continental Cup Final.

“It really is an amazing feeling,” said Greene. “I don’t think any of us expected this to happen in our careers. I had plenty of moments where I thought we were completely out, but we’re just playing really great hockey.”

“What was it like coming back from that big of a deficit?” I asked.

“It was incredible,” he said. “None of us stopped believing, none of us stopped working. We really went out there and played our hearts out. We had fun. We played… well… we played like the Bears! We played the game we always like to play. And that includes Rayz. You could tell he was having an amazing time out there.”
“And how do you feel about Calgary?”

“They’ve sort-of become friends, you know? A very friendly rivalry there.”

“That’s good to hear. Their goalie was giving you a tough time!”

“Oh yeah, Jacques is a phenomenal goaltender,” Greene said. “He’s in the same conversation as Rayz for sure! An amazing talent. I know their time will come, for sure. “

“Well, Calgary gave you a tough time. Are you relieved?”

    “Absolutely.”

“And how do you feel going into this series with Helsinki?”

    The Helsinki Titans

One of the most decorated franchises in the history of the Victory Hockey League. If there was going to be any team to face the Bears this year, it was the Titans. Both teams had the same number of wins and the same number of points. The Bears were a little older and more experienced, but the Titans had been playing their own, unique brand of the game all season, and had shown why they deserved to be the dominant team in Europe. The stage was set for an amazing finale, and the question was this: Can the Bears…….. do it again?

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

“I was optimistic," Greene takes another sip of coffee. “We had a good record against the Titans. We were over the moon after beating Calgary. To us… Calgary was the Continental Cup finals."

Greene had his history with Calgary.

“Yeah, when I was younger, me and the rest of the team had some… unflattering things to say about the Wranglers.”

“Fortunately, that’s cleared up a bit. I was kind of a hot head when I first started out. I don’t fight as much as I used to. I’ve learned how to use my body better. I don’t want to use the word ‘nuance’, but that’s the closest word I can come up with.”

Greene has undergone a lot of changes since going 66th overall in the VHLM entry draft. But one thing hasn't changed: his teammates.

"I've played with Rayz, Hogan, and Berocka my whole career. We've talked to each other for years. It's going to be hard for me to imagine anything different. That's why I'm glad we get one more shot at the cup together. It'll be nice to have our names on there four times! And, it’ll be fun to get some of the young guys on there, too!”

But first, the Titans. If the bears were going to win, they'd have to be at the top of their game. The first two were split by the bears and titans, and looked like polar opposites. one game, the bears would dominate, the next, the titans. Games 3 and four were the same, and then, the bears had a breakthrough in game 5.

"That's when we…. When we really felt the momentum shift."

“Overtime 1. Game 5. Scott Greene wins the faceoff. Ola Vikingstad takes the shot! Greene is by the net! And a tip in by Greene! He scores!”

The Bears had done it. For the fourth time in six seasons, the Seattle Bears were the Continental Cup champions. A shot from Scott Greene’s teammate Ola Vikingstad had been tipped in by Greene to win it all for the Bears. No team had ever accomplished this feat before, and Scott Greene was the one who brought it home.

But, Greene knew he was being traded.

    To Calgary.

“Ya know, I think, for me, this one feels the sweetest. It always feels great to win, but knowing that this is the last time I can celebrate winning with my friends and teammates, I really wanted to make this one count. I really wanted one more time with the guys.”

Which brings me back here to the diner.

“Are you nervous about going to Calgary?”

“I’m apprehensive,” Greene says. “I’m excited too, but don’t tell Campbell that! Hahahaha!”

At the time I record this, Greene will leave for Calgary tomorrow. But tonight, he’s taking his teammates to dinner. “I feel like I owe it to them. I’m the captain. I’ve got to treat them.”

“They’re so much more than teammates. The bears, I dunno man, they’re like family.”

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

It’s the next day. My friend, my favorite player, and the man I’ve spent the last seven years talking about, is moving on to another team. He wrote this on an Instagram post of his this morning:

“Hey guys, it’s 9:45 AM. I was up all night with the boys, and I’m headed to Calgary now. Probably where my career ends. And I’ve got nothing but a duffel bag of clothes with me. To all the Bears fans that follow me, and even to those that don’t, thank you for an incredible ride. To all the Calgary fans, I hope you welcome me with open arms. Let’s win a cup!”

Greene has left his mark on Seattle. He currently holds the playoff points record for the team, and sits fourth all time for points in Seattle. He hopes he can bring some magic to Calgary. I hope he can win an individual award, because I certainly feel like he’s good enough to do it. It's something I KNOW he's been chasing for his entire career. But, to hear him say it:

“It’s all about the team. I’m just trying to help out anyway I can. It's going to be a good place to call home."

    A Disappointing Season

It's safe to say that this season probably hasn't seen the level of return for Gabriel Akerstrom that he or his team were hoping for before it all began. Taken with the second overall pick in the most recent VHLM draft, Gabriel was looked at as a player who could drive his team's offense for the blue line and put up some great offensive numbers whilst being a force defensively too, but it looks as if that simply won't be the case. This has sadly not been the case, as he's only succeeded in putting up mediocre numbers across the board, seeing a major decrease in production from his rookie year in the VHLM with just 25 points in the 36 games that he's so far played in. It's simply not what he was hoping for going into this season, and he's well aware that if he wants his team to have the kind of season they're hoping for, it's something that he's going to need to address. The 21st are having a great season so far, sitting on top of the Eastern Conference, but that doesn't mean that anyone on the team can get complacent, and Gabriel certainly isn't going to sit back and avoid doing the work he needs to improve his play on the ice.

    BOG UPDATE
    Week of October 4th

The Board of Governors did have a bit of a slower off-season with much of the focus being on our regular off-season voting in Awards and Hall of Fame.  However, with the season now well-underway, we are starting to see an increase in new topics, which will be the focus of this week’s Board of Governors update.

The only topic from last week that still is in progress is the League Survey, which I am working on the side to hopefully present to the Administrators and Board of Governors next week.  Hopefully with quick approval we can get that distributed this season, which should give us quite a bit more to talk about as we assess strengths and weaknesses and where we can improve as a league.  As I have mentioned before, I am very excited as I think with the huge uptick in activity since the last time we had a league survey, that we should receive a lot of very useful feedback to help us progress going forward.

As for new topics, there are a few new ones that were talked about over the past week.  The first one was a thread created earlier in the week in regards to the SHL potentially looking to switch away from STHS and towards FHM.  Most of the discussion seems centered around whether or not we could look at this as a potential option.  I think we can all agree that STHS is hardly a perfect sim engine but there would be some significant sacrifices if we were to switch to FHM with the main drawback being that we would have to sacrifice a lot of the automation that we have with the VHL Portal.  It would also be an absolute pain for simmers but time will tell if we see the SHL explore this option, which would give us a better idea of how we could handle it.  As of now, this is a wait-and-see thing but we all know how much of a hot topic STHS is, and unfortunately not for good reasons.

We also revisited the topic of how GM players would be handled in the draft with ideas like: highest draft pick available, any first round pick in the top 10, no specific treatment which means the GM has to arrange the acquisition themselves and even having the Administrators decide which first round pick would be appropriate, if the team has multiple available.  Additionally, there was discussion of retethering GM’s to their teams, where the player would not cost anything to the team to acquire.  Some do feel this is the fairest way and treats each team equally as a whole.  There was some support for pretty much all of these ideas with some feeling that if we don’t have any specific rule, that we should also allow GM’s to sign their players via Free Agency.  As a few pointed out though, the idea of every GM player just playing three seasons and then hitting FA will just manipulate their draft position anyway.  This is an ongoing discussion and I imagine we will have a vote on this after discussion finishes up.

Finally, we did also have a discussion on the idea of potentially making the Discord General Chat league-related only.  However, with a vote immediately being put in the Board of Governors, over ninety percent of voters said that they would not support this and would prefer a league discussion chat being added on top of the main general chat.  We will see if this happens, but discussion seems to indicate this may be happening.

That is it for this week’s BOG Update and as always if you have any suggestions or ideas, please let me know.

As most of you have surely seen by now @Sonnet  needs to step away from the league for personal reasons, see the announcement here, which means we need to add a new member to the green team to work alongside @diamond_ace  as Commissioner of the VHLM. As this is a management role for an entire sub-section of the league activity and experience in the league is super important as you will be in charge of all day to day activities for the VHLM. This includes but is not limited to answering questions from new members, formalizing rules, working with the VHLM GM's and recruitment team, and working alongside the blue team to make necessary changes. It is also a role that comes with BOG access since many of the things discussed in there have an impact on the VHLM.

You do not need any special qualifications to apply but, as mentioned, we are aiming to get someone with likely a lot of experience in the league who knows how things do /should operate so keep that in mind if you choose to apply. Applications can be done by replying to this thread or PMing the blue team with what you believe would make you a solid candidate.

Edit: I should note as well that having a VHLM GM or AGM position does not disqualify a candidate BUT for the sake of transparency and fairness any job of the sort would need to be given up at the end of the season in order to take the commissioner position.

Won’t get it, but will throw name in. I do have some league experience that I feel would help me succeed in the role. If you wish to discuss further, or have Q’s, feel free to reach out.

Good luck to those applying and best wishes.
