Doomsday 4,130
Next up is the Kevin Brooks Trophy, awarded to the player(s) who led the VHL in goals. However, this season there was only room at the top for one, who separated himself from the pack with two more goals than the competition. Chris Hylands @Hylands was a driving force for the eventual Continental Cup champion Malmo Nighthawks with 44 goals, good for third in the VHL. Toronto's John Merrick @Steve just edged him with 45 goals, falling two short of the league leader, Guy Lesieur @KC15 of the DC Dragons! After Mikko Lahtinen led the league with 61 last season, individual scoring leveled out again, but all of the top ten had over 40 goals regardless. It's Lesieur's third straight season with 40+ goals, breaking his career high of 46 set in Season 73, winning his first Kevin Brooks Trophy in the process. Congratulations to your Kevin Brooks Trophy winner, Guy Lesieur! Doomsday 4,130
We move on now to the Mike Szatkowski Trophy, awarded annually to the player(s) who led the VHL in points. We had three players break the 100 point plateau in Season 75, with two players separated by just one point at season's end. Chris Hylands @Hylands, making another appearance tonight, finished the year with an even 100 points in a memorable season for him. Andrew Su @Da_Berr of the Vancouver Wolves and John Merrick @Steve were neck and neck down the stretch, but in the end, Merrick edged out Su by one point, 107 to 106. After a spectacular rookie season, Merrick's torrid start to his career continues, as he has won the Mike Szatkowski Trophy for leading the VHL in points in just his second season! This rising star will have a lot of eyes on him next season! Congratulations to the Mike Szatkowski Trophy winner, with 107 points, John Merrick! Doomsday 4,130
The Greg Clegane Trophy, awarded to the netminder with the lowest goals allowed average in the league, gives us a chance to show our goalers some love. This one came down to a battle for supremacy between two goalies in the North American Conference: Jacques Lafontaine @SlapshotDragon, a two-time Greg Clegane Trophy winner of the Calgary Wranglers, and Stone Wolski @DollarAndADream , the DC Dragons netminder looking to deliver on the hype that made him a high draft selection in Season 71. It was again very close, with just .03 separating the two, but in three more appearances, Wolski's 2.45 takes home the prize as the lowest GAA among starting netminders. It's his first award won during his career, and he's still got time to expand upon that brand new trophy case as well! Congratulations to Stone Wolski, the Greg Clegane Trophy winner! Doomsday 4,130
Moving on to our newest, but quickly becoming among the most valued awards, the Frederik Elmebeck Trophy. Named in the honor of Frederik Elmebeck, a wonderful man who engaged our community with incredible passion and positivity before he was taken from us all far too soon. This award is to honor the lasting legacy of Elmebeck by recognizing the member who best served the VHL community. This season, the nominees, as selected by you, the VHL community, are: @bigAL, for his energetic leadership with the World Juniors Championship, along with his podcast, donations, and work with the VHL Chess Tourney! @Doomsday, for his work with new members as the General Manager of the Saskatoon Wild! @fishy, for their tremendous contributions towards towards making the VHL community a more inclusive and diverse place, along with running the VHFL and their podcasts! @fromtheinside, for his tireless work towards generating outstanding VSN content, combined with valuable contributions as a WJC GM, VHLM AGM, and podcasts! @Hex Universe, as a first-generation member that has made a major impression upon the VHL community! @Jubis, for his work towards re-establishing the spirit of the Calgary Wranglers as their General Manager! @Jubo07, for his masterful work in making the Helsinki Titans a desirable home for VHL players! @Mr_Hatter, for majorly stepping up as the new Editor-In-Chief of VSN and absolutely crushing it! @rjfryman, for his dedicated work in fueling the competitive spirit of the VHL with his pre and post-draft rankings! @thadthrasher, for his efforts towards easing the stigma of discussing mental health, along with priceless league content in his role as Team USA's GM in the WJC! Congratulations to all of our nominees! The VHL community recognizes all of you for your dedicated service and contributions to our beloved community, and each of you are big reasons why the VHL has been and will continue to be such a great community to be a part of. The votes have been tallied, and the winner of the Season 75 Frederik Elmebeck Trophy winner is… Spoiler fishy! On top of taking charge of the fan-favorite VHFL and expanding the appeal of it with weekly standings updates, fishy has made a tremendous impact on the VHL community this season with their brave decision to not only announce that they were non-binary, but took the time to educate the league about what that meant as well. As many longtime members can attest, this is a far cry from where the league used to be, and their decision to share very personal aspects of their life, and help to educate and inspire other people is exactly what the spirit of the Frederik Elmebeck Trophy is all about. I personally learned a lot, and the warm, supportive reaction of the community further affirms just how far this group has come. Thank you, fishy, and congratulations!! Doomsday 4,130
The VHLM delivered another great batch of rookies in Season 75, but only one can be the Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy winner! Awarded to the player deemed to be the top rookie of the year, we had four rookies who really made a case for themselves this season! Rhynex Entertainment @Rhynex Entertainment led all rookies in Season 75 with 89 points, making a dangerous duo with fellow rookie Gary Rush @G_Rush on the New York Americans, who also put up 85 points of his own. Riga's rookie netminder, Calvin Harvey @Mrpenguin30, put up a stellar season, turning a Reign team many believed to be a doormat into a spoiler. Winning 28 games with a .920 save percentage was a very impressive start to his career! Another rookie goalie, Kevin Malone @WentzKneeFan036, helped take the London United to their first ever playoff berth, winning 29 games with a .912 save percentage and 5 shutouts, which was second in the VHL! Finally, we have L @gorlab, the rookie blue liner of the Chicago Phoenix, who tallied 60 points, 188 hits, and 171 shots blocked on the Cinderella Chicago squad. Let's find out who that top rookie will be this season! Your winner is... Spoiler L!! Ironically, it's L taking home the W tonight!! Avenging the snub of Jet Jaguar, gorlab starts L's career in style with a Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy! Although he didn't put up the points of Rhynex Entertainment or Gary Rush, the voters were impressed with how well L performed on a competitive team in the Warsaw Predators, putting together a tremendous season and showing serious potential as a two-way defenseman. Calvin Harvey and Gary Rush also received votes, but tonight, L takes the glory! Congratulations to L, your Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy winner and the Season 75 Rookie of the Year!
