Good evening and welcome to the season 81 Victory Hockey League Awards show! Over the course of the next hour we will unveil the winner of each and every VHL award. This season saw several storylines come up, with Vancouver repeating as Continental Cup champions, Toronto making the playoffs, and Justin Lose’s dominant season.

Tonight, we will celebrate and reflect on season 81, as we award the league's biggest hardware and players and they become recognized as S81 legends. I hope you’re ready, Let’s get this thing started!

Victory Cup

Following a somewhat slow start to the season (5-5-0), the Vancouver Wolves took off and quickly established themselves as one of the top teams in the league and once they started winning, they didn’t look back and they would storm ahead of the rest of the league and finish with a 58-12- record, good enough for a 12 point lead. Led by Aloe Dear’s @Renomitsu 136 points and Henry Tucker’s @NSG 60 points, Vancouver was a juggernaut this season allowing @Nykonax to win their 2nd consecutive Victory Cup.

Congratulations Vancouver on the season 81 Victory Cup!

Continental Cup

After winning the Victory Cup and entering the playoffs as clear favourites, the Vancouver Wolves did not disappoint. In the first round they took out a surprise Toronto team in 5 games, following this they faced the Calgary Wranglers who pushed the Wolves to the brink of elimination. In the finals they ran into a familiar foe in Moscow, who was looking to avenge a S80 Continental Cup finals defeat. In a back and forth series the Wolves would do what they do best and win, finishing off the Menace in game #6 on a cup-winning goal from Hari Singh Nalwa @Dil

During the playoff run, Jerome Reinhart @MexicanCow123 would put the team on their back and lead the team and the playoffs in scoring with 52 points in 18 games, the most points in a single playoffs ever. Congratulations to The Vancouver Wolves and @Nykonax on their back-to-back Continental Cups!

Each season the Alexander Beketov trophy is presented to the player who leads the league in assists, this award is commonly won by a defenseman and this season is no different with 4 of the top 5 players being defensemen; Aurelien Moreau @Frank, Robin Galante Nilsson @RomanesEuntDomus, Battre Sandstrom @Acydburn, Zeedayno Chara @Jubis, and our lone forward Aloe Dear @Renomitsu. In what was a pretty close race right up until the final sim of the season, and the final margin of victory only being 3 assists I’m pleased to present our first individual award of the evening to Aurelien Moreau!

The Kevin Brooks trophy is awarded to the player(s) who leads the league in scoring at the end of the regular season. Notably this season we saw 6 players score over 60 goals which may have been enough to win in most other seasons, these players were: Henry Tucker @NSG, Chris Reynolds @Crstats23, Jerome Reinhart @MexicanCow123, Rhynex Entertainment @Rhynex Entertainment, Alex Johnston @Alex, and Justin Lose @youloser1337. Although there was a tight race at times 1 player took off near the end of the season establishing a 9 goal lead over Alex Johnston (63) and Rhynex Entertainment (63). This set this one player above the rest of the pack with 72 goals in 72 games, establishing themselves as the S81 VHL leading goal scorer: Justin Lose!

The previous two awards covered assists and goals, the Mike Szatkowski Trophy is awarded to the player who leads the league in points at the end of the regular season. Just a few seasons ago it was a massive accomplishment to score 100 points, this season 39 players hit the 100 point mark! Among those 6 players were over 130 points. We did have a relatively close race here that came down to the last couple sims with Henry Tucker @NSG, Chris Reynolds @Crstats23, and Aloe Dear @Renomitsu all within 7 points of first. This season we saw a player score over the 140 point mark for the first time since S62 and that player was… Justin Lose @youloser1337 with 142 points! Congratulations!

Now how about them goalies? The Greg Clegne Trophy is presented to starting the goalie with the lowest GAA over the course of the season. This one came down to the wire and was the only one of the statistical awards to have the leader change during the final sim as entering the final sim Riga’s rookie goaltender Tobias Reinhart @Spaz held the lead with Thadius Sales @thadthrasher, Sirkants Klamasteris @hedgehog337, and Kunibuni UnGuri @Berocka right behind him. After the last sim of the season Sales performance shot him into first place with a 3.02 GAA, compared to Reinhart’s and Klamasteris’s 3.12 GAA. Congratulations Thadius Sales!

Now we move onto what I would call the most prestigious award the VHL has to offer: the Frederik Elmebeck Trophy. Named in honour of Frederik Elmembeck, who from what I’ve heard was an incredible person who engaged the community with passion and positive energy on a daily basis before he was taken from us far too soon. This award is to honor the lasting legacy of Elmebeck by recognizing the member who best served the VHL community. This season, the nominees, as selected by you, the VHL community, are:

@Berocka, The longtime Davos AGM, has been a major part in the rise of podcasts recently and organized the podcast tournament for all the members to participate in.

@Shindigs, A very new member having joined almost exactly 1 season ago, they have assisted with mentoring new members and encouraging activity on both Discord and the forums.

@Alex, a passionate VHLM GM who will do anything to help his players learn the game along with helping to get the junior showcase back into full swing. (written by Sam)

@Spartan, The life-blood of the VHFL and current Moscow Menace GM, Spartan has continued to be a positive influence on everyone in the league.

First off I would just like to thank all the nominees for all the work they put in this season and making the league a better place each and every day. Without further ado, the winner is…

@Shindigs! Congratulations!

The Dustin Funk is awarded to that season's most improved player, this season we had a lot of players take a huge step forward. For this award each VHL GM can nominate 1 player from their own team, this ensures that no player is overlooked in any way. This can lead to a crowded field and with that it was narrowed down to five finalists, who stood out above the rest. These were:

The Scott Boulet Trophy is awarded to the two-way forward in the VHL each season. Of late, 2 players have won the Boulet 3 consecutive times with Mikko Lahtinen @Beketov (S74-S76) and Groovy Dood @bigAL (S77-S79). This raises the question of “will we see this again” as Duncan Idaho @OrbitingDeath won last season and had another good season this time around with 130 points, 395 hits, and 43 shots blocked. Other players who had incredible two-way seasons are Henry Tucker @NSG with 135 points, 353 hits, and 35 shots blocked, Taylor Mourning @scoop who had 107 points, 314 hits, and 41 shots blocked, Alex Johnston @Alex also put up solid numbers with 125 points, 252 hits, and 54 shots blocked, lastly, Christian Mingle @Quik who led Chicago with 108 points, 303 hits, and 44 shots blocked. Will Idaho go back-to-back, or will a new player break the current trend? Let’s find out, the winner of the Scott Boulet Trophy is…

The Alexander Valiq Trophy is awarded to the VHL’s top offensive defenseman, This season we and an extremely tight race with Aurelien Moreau @Frank and Robin Galante Nilsson @RomanesEuntDomus sharing the lead with 118 points, with Battre Sandstrom @Acydburn right behind them with 117 points. Only 8 points back of the leaders sat Hard Markinson @STZ with 110 points and the lead in goals with 28. Additionally Nilsson, and Sandstrom broke the 20-goal mark, while Moreau had the most assists in a season since season 53. This should be a close one with each of these players equally deserving of the award, the season 81 Alexander Valiq Trophy goes to…
