Doomsday 4,143
Up next, it's the Aidan Shaw Trophy, awarded to the top goaltender in the VHL! Virtually a prerequisite for any goaler looking to be immortalized into the VHL Hall of Fame, this is one of the ultimate prizes for goaltenders in the VHL. Jean Pierre Camus @solas had another quality season in Chicago, recording a 2.89 GAA and a .922 save percentage on his way to winning 43 games. Doug Dimmadome @Esso2264 shined for Los Angeles, allowing under three goals per game, stopping. 923 percent of the shots he faced, and earning the win in 33 games. Jacob Tonn @MexicanCow123 is again in the Shaw discussions in his final year, earning the Greg Clegane Trophy with a 2.82 GAA, stopping .921 percent of the shots he faced, and winning 37 games for the London United. Lastly, Artem Tretiak @Molholt had a breakout year, saving .924 percent of the shots he faced, allowing 3.15 goals per game, and winning 30 games for the Malmo Nighthawks. Who's taking the big step towards VHL immortality tonight? Your Aidan Shaw Trophy winner is... Spoiler Jean Pierre Camus! When he’s on, Jean Pierre Camus is damn near unbeatable, and it just so turned out that Season 78 was his time to be on! After his masterful performance in the Season 76 Playoffs and World Cup, this is a major victory for Camus as he starts to compile his Hall of Fame resume. He’s got more work to do, but his prospects of immortality are starting to look pretty, pretty, pretty good! Congratulations to Jean Pierre Camus, winner of the Season 78 Aidan Shaw Trophy! Doomsday 4,143
We've honored the players, now let's take a moment to honor the builders of the rosters themselves! That's right, it's time to award the David Knight Trophy to the top GM in the VHL, in what's always a fun discussion for the Awards Committee. Let's meet the finalists: Blake Campbell @Banackock, for once again fielding a powerhouse in Seattle in defense of their championship a season ago! Roger McWolf III @McWolf , for again reshaping the London United into a contending club! Kris Rice @Ricer13, for continuing to build the Calgary Wranglers back to their championship-caliber legacy! Damien Walec @.sniffuM, for completing Warsaw's journey from fledgling expansion franchise to Continental Cup champions! Which general manager gets the bragging rights this season? The winner of the David Knight Trophy is... Spoiler Kris Rice!! Let’s face it, the entire Calgary organization has undergone a massive transformation in the past ten seasons. It went from a place that seemingly no one wanted to play for or be stuck on to a team that is now brimming with life under Rice. Furthermore, the team never lost their trademark sense of loyalty that runs deep within Calgary’s history, and they never lost sight of their pursuit of the Continental Cup. While they haven’t done so yet, it’s no longer a question of if, it’s when Kris Rice will bring the Continental Cup back to Calgary. Congratulations to Kris Rice, the VHL's top general manager of Season 78 as the David Knight Trophy winner! Doomsday 4,143
The regular season is filled with plenty of heroic exploits, but it takes a true legend to excel in the playoffs. Tonight, we recognize the MVP of the S78 Playoffs with the Daisuke Kanou Trophy. Tonight, one of these players will transcend greatness, and take their place in VHL lore as a legend of the game, a player who played the biggest when it mattered the most. Dakota Lamb @dlamb put together an incredible postseason for Warsaw's championship run, scoring 34 points in 17 games, including 10 goals, good for two points a game. James Rose @MattyIce put together a valiant effort for the Seattle Bears, scoring 25 points as a blueliner, along with 51 hits and 44 blocked shots. Uhtred @leafsman put together a dynamic playoff run for Warsaw, scoring 15 goals and 31 points to power the Predators to a championship. Who will become the next entry into the VHL's echelon of legendary playoff heroes? The winner of the Daisuke Kanou Trophy, and Season 78 Playoff MVP, is... Spoiler Uhtred! Dakota Lamb put together an incredible performance this postseason, but ultimately, the Awards Committee just couldn’t look past the 15 goals that Uhtred scored in an equally dominant run. When you factor those two together, it’s really no surprise that Warsaw went on to win the Continental Cup. It didn’t matter who got in the way of the Predators, for none of them could stop Uhtred. Congratulations to Uhtred, the Daisuke Kanou Trophy winner and most valuable player of the Season 78 Playoffs! However, this season we've got six finalists staking claim for the Wylde! The aptly-named L @gorlab contributed 244 hits, along with 164 shots blocked and a +13. Alex Letang @Spartan racked up 264 hits, blocking 139 shots and tallying a +21 rating. Randy Marsh @oilmandan was a dominant physical presence, racking up 312 hits and blocking 162 shots, and recording a +21 rating. Robin Galante Nilsson @RomanesEuntDomus tallied 153 hits, but was seemingly a magnet for the puck, blocking an unhealthy 229 shots and recording a -23 rating. Cowboy Prout @Prout tallied 168 hits, blocked 189 shots, and recorded the second best +/- in the VHL with a +29. Lastly, General Zod @Matt_O recorded 282 hits and 140 blocked shots, with a -3 rating on the season. Who made the biggest mark in their own zone this season? The winner of the Season 78 Jake Wylde Trophy is... Hide contents Randy Marsh! More often than not, Randy Marsh was the type of defenseman this season who didn’t hear no bell. Very dependable with and without the puck, Marsh was an absolute nightmare for opposing teams to deal with, whether he leveled the puck carrier or took away the shooting lane, he was an absolute nuisance to opposing forwards. Doomsday 4,143
It's time, ladies and gentlemen, for the award you've all been waiting for: the Scotty Campbell Trophy, awarded to the most valuable player in the VHL! This season, we had five players make the final ballot for the right to be called the MVP of the VHL. Isabella Campbell @Banackock was among the most prolific goal scorers for Seattle, with 47 goals and a total of 99 points. Aloe Dear @Renomitsu was a powerhouse for the champion Warsaw Predators, scoring a VHL best 74 assists and 118 points. Groovy Dood @bigAL, the reigning back-to-back Scott Boulet Trophy winner, scored 42 goals and 96 points to go with 337 hits. Kevin King @IamMOOSE was a beast for London, scoring 94 points, including 49 goals to power the United’s push for the Cup. Robin Winter @Sonnet led the VHL in goals with 50, with a total of 108 points, and was a wrecking ball as well with 273 hits as well. The wait is over, let's crown our MVP! The winner of the Scotty Campbell Trophy is... Spoiler ALOE DEAR!! Not much of a surprise here, as Aloe Dear epitomized what dominance was in the VHL this season. Nine points more than the nearest competitor, the most assists in the league, and while this is a regular season award, Dear put the Warsaw Predators into the absolute best position possible to go on to win the ultimate prize in the VHL: the Continental Cup. There was no shortage of quality players this season, but frankly, the MVP could only rightfully go to one player this season… and that’s Aloe Dear. v.2 1,411
1 hour ago, Doomsday said: After a highly-touted draft class in Season 78, the time has come now for one of this season's rookies to earn the ultimate bragging rights by being awarded the Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy, awarded to the VHL's top rookie! The Moscow Menace had a strong crop of rookies, and Grapes @Grapes-Tophat_Clan- was among the top rookie forwards, showing promise as a future Boulet contender with 253 hits and 34 points. Riga may have had a frustrating year, but Jan Hlozek @Bojovnik was a bright spot. The rookie defenseman contributed 50 points and 115 blocked shots to establish himself as someone the Reign can build upon moving forward. The first overall pick, Hard Markinson @STZ delivered on the lofty hype placed upon him, leading all rookies with 56 points, along with 250 hits and an absurd 180 blocked shots for the Moscow Menace. Tui Sova @v.2 was one of just three rookies to crack 40 points, as the Malmo Nighthawks' blueliner scored 40 points, adding 148 hits and blocking 169 shots to make an immediate impact. Lastly, we have Luc Tessier @KC15, the highest-scoring rookie forward this season with 37 points for the HC Davos Dynamo. Which rookie is taking home the Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy this season? Your winner, and top rookie of the VHL, is... Hide contents Hard Markinson! It’s an unanimous decision, with all eleven votes going to Hard Markinson!! Doomsday 4,143
Well, with the naming of our All-VHL Teams, that brings the Season 78 VHL Awards Show to a close. It was a quality evening, filled with terrible puns, much-deserved recognition, and the backing of an absolutely awesome group of fans, friends, and VHL family! It's hitting home just now that serious changes are on the way. As we officially set our sights on Season 79, this is the final season that the VHL and VHLM will function as the primary two leagues. The VHLE will be beginning in Season 80, and signs that it's coming are becoming more and more evident. The tab now appears on the Portal, the six teams have been officially unveiled, and the first players that will be playing in the VHLE have been created. Thanks to Frederik Elmebeck Trophy winner @KaleebtheMighty, the hype is real! Tonight was also a big night for me in particular. I was pretty displeased at how the awards show went last season, and upon being approached to do the show again this season, I knew I had to crank it up and bring this show back to the quality you've all come to know and expect. The fan interaction was great, I felt happy with the content, and it felt great to get back on the saddle and correct the grievous wrong of Season 77's show. We're back on track, and it's gonna stay that way!
