If you want to know exactly what your stats do to impact your player's decision making formula, go here!

Players Rating

Checking - The higher the stat, more hit he'll give.
Skating - The higher the stat, less chance to get successfully hit. Part of decision making formula*.
Strength - The higher the stat, less chance to get successfully hit. Limited effect on faceoff. (Affect by Coach)
Puck Handling - The higher the stat, less chance to get successfully hit / less chance to lost control of puck / better chance in shot block or shot deflection. Part of decision making formula*.
Face Offs - The higher the stat, the more faceoff he'll win.
Passing - The higher the stat, better chance to have a successful pass. Part of decision making formula*.
Scoring - The higher the stat, better chance to score by normal shot or deflection. Part of decision making formula*.
Defense - The higher the stat, better he'll play in defense / he'll block more shot / he'll retrieved more free puck. Part of decision making formula*.
Weight & Height - The heavier and bigger the players are, the more hit he'll give.

* When a player has the puck, he needs to make a decision of what to do with it. There are 3 results possible: skate, pass or shot. It doesn’t matter if the player skills are at 50 or 99 for this formula. The player’s skills are compared between each other’s for this formula.

The decision is based on 5 skills:

  • Skating (Primary) and Puck Handling (Limited affect) are uses to decide if the players skate.
  • Passing (Primary) and Defense (Limited affect) are uses to decide if the players pass.
  • Scoring (Primary) is uses to decide if the player shot.

So, a players with 99 in the 5 skills has the same % of chance to shot to the net that a player who has 50 in the 5 skills.

Don't know if this is the right place to ask but:

Does improving fighting mean that I have more chance of winning a fight, or does it mean that I will just take part in more fights, or both?

Strength has alot to do with scoring IMO

Yeah this player was a little bit of an experiment to see how much those secondary attributes matter and the answer is "more than I thought".

What does Leadership do? I mean, I know what the word means and how important a good captain and a locker room with a few leaders can be IRL, but how much effect does it have in the simulation, over a season, etc.

Second question, size affects checking and hits - OK fine, but is there any negative to just creating a 200 kg, 2 meter player in terms of everything else? Also, can you change weight over seasons? I am thinking guys like Peter Forsberg, who were tiny when they entered NHL but grew in weight quite a bit (not just the checking stat).

let's say I want to make a scorer sorta like Mike bossy his skating was superb along with soft hands and later became a great defensive forward as well so how can I translate that into the game? if need points on skating of course and shooting but I only have 30 pts to distribute any one have any ideas? bossy came into the league at 20 and my player is 17 so I have 3 yrs to get to his level when he first stepped in, imagine him stating to the GM he'll score 50 lol amazing player

Start earning some more TPE then! If you really go hard this week, you could earn another 32 TPE on top of what you've started with (media spot + biography + rookie profile + reviewing + press conference + practice facility + vhl.com article).

As for the attributes themselves, you should probably get all of skating, scoring, defense, and puck handling to 70 before picking a couple of them to take to 80 after that.
