Anyway, answers:

1. How many times has a goaltender been crowned league MVP?

15, most recently by Apollo Skye in S57. It's a long way off the forward dominance, but is still pretty good representation for the goaltending position - generally someone wins it once a generation.

 

2. Who is the only player to lead the league in assists in their rookie season?

Despite being the least recognisable name on the list, the correct answer is Shane Lynch. The last hurrah for a famous agent in RawEnergy, Lynch went inactive early on and still managed to win the Mikita/Beketov twice - both times bizarrely, not as the sole assists leader, including ending up in a 4-way tie with 81 assists in his rookie year.

 

Conner Low won the Beketov 3 times and was a rookie Labatte winner, but doesn't meet this criteria. Vyacheslav Smirnov had a great rookie season in S62, but in that insane season 86 assists was only good enough for 6th place. Spare a thought for Michael Angelo, whose 98 assists are a rookie record but came in S20, the year of Patrick Bergqvist's overall assists record of 114.

 

Finally, Aksel Thomassen was a top playmaker, and had 92 assists to lead the league as a sophomore, but only had 51 points in his rookie campaign.
