1. Lincoln Tate led the league in assists for the second straight season in S73. He is now on the hunt for his third Beketov Trophy - how many players have won that many before?

Leading the league in assists is notoriously a difficult feat to repeat. I remember reading a Media Spot just when I joined in S10 about the "Mikita Trophy curse" as the Beketov was then known, and how hard it was to defend the trophy. That's changed since but not by much - there have only been 4 back-to-back winners of the award, including Tate and the two players to have won the Beketov thrice - Hall of Fame defencemen Conner Low and Ay Ay Ron. Lead the league in assists again and Tate will be in very good company indeed.

 

2. Who was the last player to be the sole recipient of the Daisuke Kanou Trophy without being on the Continental Cup champions? (Credit and 1 uncapped TPE to @Patrik Tallinder)

The VHL's playoff MVP is naturally usually awarded to a member of the league champions but on 10 occasions by my count the voters have been sufficiently impressed by someone on the losing side, even if only shared sometimes. The last finals loser to win the Kanou was Norris Stopko in S63, but he co-won the trophy with Riga's Ryuu Crimson, meaning that the correct answer to the question is Greg Clegane all the way back in S51, as Toronto fell one goal short of the fourpeat in all-time classic finals showdown between the Cleganes.
