Commissioner Josh 1,671 Posted February 15, 2021 Commissioner Share Posted February 15, 2021 1. Which GM managed the most seasons before winning their first cup? (Credit and 1 uncapped TPE to @Beaviss) The story of Bushito the GM remains one of the most fascinating in VHL history for me. First, he got the Davos GM job in S27 and nearly wasted a talented core through lax activity, before finally going inactive in S31 - under interim GM David Knight, the Dynamo finally won the cup. Then he came back and got a second shot, with Seattle. After a positive start and an overall well executed rebuild, he kept forgetting to sign players to extensions and with the team seemingly going nowhere he once again went inactive. Under interim GM Mitch Higgins, the Bears miraculously won the cup in S43. Bash came back under an alias in the 50s and even after his true identity was revealed, the shortage of GMs led him to the Stockholm job in S56. The Vikings were contracted and Bushito and his players were moved to Calgary. It was there, in S62, he finally got his first cup on the 18th season of asking, having come so close twice before. But we know how this story ends - he hung around too long, went inactive again and under interim GM Jubis, the Wranglers so very nearly won the cup in S72. Anyway, Tyler Barabash is the right answer, no one else really comes close. Best place to look would have been the spreadsheet in this thread: https://vhlforum.com/topic/1060-vhl-all-time-gms/ 2. What is the record for the most consecutive Victory Cups won by one team? (Credit and 1 uncapped TPE to @GustavMattias) The crown jewel in GM Chris Miller's career is the New York team he created in the late 30s. Featuring all-time greats like Conner Low and Odin Tordahl, and 3-4 other Hall of Famers at most times, the Americans won cups in S39 and S41, losing in the finals in between. In each of those seasons as well as S38, New York had also dominated the regular season, winning an unprecedented FOUR straight Victory Cups. The next best result of 3 has been achieved twice, by Scotty Campbell's Seattle and more recently by the late 50s Riga powerhouse. You underestimate how desperate we were because all you’ve known is a VHL where twice as many people want GM jobs as their are jobs. Forget every team hiring an AGM, we couldn’t even get enough people to want GM jobs. Hell Anderson was in charge of Cologne for a bit.
